A feature-rich application brings everything that a team member would need, such as the ModCP and various happenings across the site, to even member birthdays. This is in the early stages, but it will become more powerful, and allow for the team to spend their time effectively to help the site.

I have also coded a resource which will allow members to see the word and character count when writing in the text editor. Via your Account Settings, you can even turn on error detection, such as grammar and spelling. Thiis improvement isn't aimed at anyone, nor is it an effort to become the grammar police. It's simply been added to give people the option to spot issues before submitting a post if they wish. You can even turn on a setting which will tell you, but allow it to be your decision if you choose to post still or go back to editing.

Look for the TipTap Writing Assistant - https://prideofnottingham.co.uk/settings/links/

Match Discussions will now enable our volunteer matchday correspondent to provide live updates without triggering the flooding control.

Those who visit PON via their mobiles might be pleased to see I have even added a means for you to customise what shows in the mobile navigation menu. If you remove key elements, they will trigger changes to the navigation menu so you won't lose out completely. For example, messages, notifications and the search can each be replaced with a different button but they will still show in the navigation menu.

At the moment I have created custom buttons for the dashboard and topic feed, please comment below any which you would like to see.

To customise your mobile footer navigation you can do so here - https://prideofnottingham.co.uk/settings/mobilenav/

I will soon be announcing our brand new partnership scheme, aimed at working with local companies and businesses. Full onboarding has been completed, along with a quick overview of the benefits. So, if you know someone who owns a business that would be a good fit, please do help spread the word. PON is very keen to partner up in a meaninful way whereby it's more than just a one off promotion but that they become part of the Pride of Nottingham family.

Five spaces are available. There is a discount for those who sign up for 2 years. All partners get access to real-time stats, their logo in the footer and various parts of the site. Included in social media, video content which I am keen to bring back next season. They have their own partner page to highlight their role in our community! + much more.

I have several other applications in the works which will bring more userability, and some I hope members will spread the word about.

There may be bugs, but I will elimate what I find and what is reported ASAP. Please do help mention anything that you notice, as this means it will likely be caught and fixed quicker.

This season hasn't been my best. I fell short due to illness and personal reasons, but I am getting geared up for the remaining games, and what next season brings. You post suggestions by connecting your PON account to our status page, click the suggestions tab - https://status.prideofnottingham.co.uk/suggestions/

Many thanks!

Chris

Announcement: Continued optimisation of site + Improvements - 12th May 2026

Following up on the announcement made back in April, I have continued to focus on performance, efficacy, and optimisation that improves the site. Whilst improving on existing features, and bringing in new ones to offer more to the community.

Before I dive into this, I just wanted to apologise for the down time yesterday. PON experienced the issue twice, although this was my own fault and I won't be skipping the live dev site in the future. All resources and chages will be tested there, however, to explain I do local testing which I felt was meaningful enough but this ultimately wasn't a wise idea.

This was quickly shared on the PON Status page, quickly investigated and not long after resolved: https://status.prideofnottingham.co.uk/

I have improved numourous resources which all focus on making them to the highest grade in terms of their performance as possible, for about a week and a half I have had OPcache running. This alone makes a signicant improvement, as it can improve demanding PHP pages alone by 30% up to 70%.

By going through the demanding applications that make up PON, this further makes a massive difference to the way the site performs and loads.

Some might have noticed whilst visiting the site that the status page has a nice badge button, and a new one has been added for some time that delivers a new experience - called 'What's New'.

These badge buttons have been added now to the mobile navigation.

So, what does the page do?

It's a new hub that focuses on live, and new content.

This isn't a replacement for the dashboard, or any other areas. It is intended to suppliment the community, by offering a different experience, that allows you to stay tuned with what is happening, where your time could be spent to help discussion content but also to ease the time you may have to joining in more.

The page updates automatically every 60 seconds automatically. It efficiently handles this without impacting the site by focusing only on new content and changes which have been made. At the top, you will see latest topics, items unread, items without replies, items that are active and status updates. So you don't lose your place: all content opens up in a new tab.

If you pause, or become inactive, the page will queitely halt until your session becomes active again. This is a smart way of protecting resources, and it means nothing is wasted. All you need do is re-engage with the page for it to resume.

Please help support other community members by trying to spare some time for discussion which might not have gained traction.

You can view the what's new page here: https://prideofnottingham.co.uk/whats-new/

Just one or two comments can impact a discussion, and lead to further responses as it develops and interests readers.

Throughout the site, it also adds a badge to encourage activity and if discussions are actively replied to within 15 minutes, a live badge will show making the topic as an area of activity happening right now.

Status posts now will show on the all activity page.

This is a useful way to express how you feel, what you are doing and a way for members to get to know you better outside of discussions. This is a feature which I use, but will be using more of.

I have made signicant custom improvements to the moods application, and whilst I focused on optimising it. Adding a very important feature called 'Lazy loading'. I enhanced it by including a search field, which will automatically suggest a mood if your term isn't found or it will show you the exact mood you want.

I will ensure the search field is added to the responsive nicely, as I have just checked and it isn't working as intended. I'll have this patched ASAP, later on.

Topic Surveillance is back, despite the name it's just a mode for topics which slows down the responses and can lead to approval if things gets out of hand. It's a very important tool for moderation, and to avoid upset.

Coming Soon:

Community Notifications: This will allow me/team members to send a custom inline notification to members.

Automated Newsletters: Choose how you would like to get newsletters, weekly and specials. These will focus on site content, but it will be down to you to choose what makes the cut so you can personalise them. This won't replace the newsletters I intend to send out to those who subscribe, which will feature guest writers. This is a different newsletter scheme, which will be introduced ahead of next season. Automated Newsletters, will include my own take on what's happening around Notts, but the rest will be down to what you want to see.

Monthly Awards: Returning the Member(s) of the Month, plus other acknowledgements such as Best Post of the Month - including rewards for certain ones at times.

Explore Feeds: Will be another means to engage with content, as this will be geared to match day content, and grouping site areas into active feeds that members can cater to their browsing habits.

Content Limits: This will be introduced after the Play-Offs, only guests and NewPie members will be effected. Participating can provide NewPie members with additional daily limits. This is built and ready for deployment, but I want the season to be concluded before I introduce it. The Jimmy Sirrel stand forum remains open without limits, meaning guests can read all the content posted there but will hit limits in other areas.

Groundhoppers: This will allow members to mark which of the 92 teams and grounds they have visited, not just this, but you can mark off historic grounds and your profile will display relevant information. You can have it set to public, private or to followers only. Some information will be public, the majority will be based on your preference though. You can even leave comments about grounds, past-games which are private to you or your preference.

History: I will be bringing all of our club's history into the site, past seasons, fixtures, goalscorers, and all that historical good stuff.

There's a few more, which will gain more attention during the close season.

Stay tuned; please continue to join in and help spread the word! Thank you for taking the time to read this announcement, and please let me know your thoughts + what new feature you like the most.

Considering a Return to Community Raffles

I am curious as to if there might be enough support to conduct raffles back here on the site, in the past they were helpful but did require my time to promote them.

Please don't instantly locate the donate button, whilst I do need to encourage that and the subscriptions that will come with time.

As well as trying to find local businesses willing and wanting to work with PON, this is something I am excited about but I do acknowledge the content side and lack of social media presence currently might put some off. I just need to come up with effective solutions that benefit everyone. I am blessed that there are plenty of people willing to support, and help keep the costs manageable, but I am currently unable to renew my licence for the software we use.

This is why I have taken to selling some of the applications I have made, but sales rely on interest and so far I have only sold 2 copies of the same resource. I am grateful, excited and proud but that comes with time to support any questions or issues they experience. Plus setting aside time to do that away from all my roles here. I am not complaining, just explaining that if I were able to return to doing raffles. I could try to see if the support is there to complete them every now and then in order to help raise money.

Not everyone would be obliged to donate, nor do I expect it and sometimes you have to give something back.

Announcement: Improvements, Mishaps but Overall Progress - 3rd April 2026

I am pleased to say I have improved the behaviour of two high-demanding resources that slowed down certain pages by 25-30%. However, it did come at the cost of a bug which didn't happen on my local dev or live dev online. It's quite weird how it happened, but once we re-add the display images things will be much smoother.

My plan is to fix the social publisher app, due to API changes, and re-focus on publishing content. I will be able to make the most of the 'featured' page, which I may enhance in time. https://prideofnottingham.co.uk/featured/

If you happen to know a local business which might be interested in working with PON, please let them know about our new partnership scheme. I have always wanted to work with local companies, and my hope is that they can help cover some costs here - whilst we proudly showcase and promote them as our partner. I have put a lot of time into this, and I am rather proud of the onboarding process as it's hassle-free but very informative. https://prideofnottingham.co.uk/partners/

The site will continue to see optimised performance where possible with resources. Suggestions can also be made here; members can safely connect to it by using their account and it will be synced via API without transfer of any information. Ensuring that login is both secure and quick. https://status.prideofnottingham.co.uk/

Just click continue as...

I haven't updated it recently, as the most recent issue affected far more members than I would have hoped and instead I made an effort to bring awareness on site. The status page will stay online if PON has issues, so it's a very convenient means of knowing if something is wrong and what is being done.

You may have seen the new footer widget. This was rewritten from scratch and improved for this version. I have also added transparancy to the donation page: https://prideofnottingham.co.uk/donate/

I will be focusing on the member subscriptions, but I do hope that the partner system and my plan to introduce areas for local adverts will be beneficial towards maintaining the upkeep. @BigNCFC has kindly started fundraising, and he's doing an amazing job. Thanks to the generous support of our donating members, covering the costs has been much easier. A special thanks to @Michael D Pie., someone whose kindness really shines through, not just because they're generous, but because they genuinely care.

Those members who know me well will know I don't like singling people out or giving praise, but Michael has been a significant factor in this process, and it's only right to thank him.

The + Create button, which was scrapped from v4, has returned as a custom mod.

This adds a level of convenience to starting new discussions, among other content, without the need to go to a specific location. It was such a boost when it arrived as a feature and quickly became something noticeably missed since upgrading.

While this is a small update, it should help with content in general and starting discussions as we start to move into the pre-season.

As previously noted, the upcoming game features enhanced automation of match discussions. I will be spending time ensuring the full fixtures get added, alongside the help of my wife @cheeky~k8.

Mood statuses will be returning, with Terabyte informing me recently that he's wrapping up the finishing touches on his app.

Our previous footer will return, but unfortunately the dev working with me on that is currently unable to code at this time. I have enquired about the app which gave subscribers a badge; I am hoping to hear back from the dev with regard to that. The bookmark app, which allowed members to safely store content for future reference, will return momentarily. As should the surveillance system for when discussions need to be moderated to avoid things escalating to a point that they shouldn't.

Guest limits across the site will be something I hope will return, but I have no ETA on that.

I believe limiting guests and encouraging people to register and join in will only benefit the site, and while I will try to make sure guests can gain value from visiting, I would like to give them more reasons to join and become involved.

My focus on newsletters was disrupted due to the sudden announcement that v5 was in beta. While I have tried to send bulk messages from the site, I don't think it warrants the effort. Instead, I will be focusing on the list where members have already approved my sending them the newsletter. At a point, I will make sure a subscription widget is added to encourage more to get involved, but when people join a site, they don't always want to receive emails or notifications, which is a shame because it brings them the community aspects, but it's also understandable that people would not want them.

Major news will still go out as per normal, but I will be focusing more on a newsletter and encouraging fans to follow areas of the site in order to get email updates.

The latest discussion widget from the old site, unfortunately the dev that had been working on its return isn't able to code right now, therefore I have asked another dev to take it on.

There's no ETA on this, but it is of the highest priority.

Aside from this, there are little things and some new features that I want to add in time. They are as follows:

A proper league system.
Additional ways of showing upcoming games, fixtures, and results.
Squad page, which is more detailed than what I have created.
History and stats.
Prediction League system.
Enhanced member profile picture gallery (upgraded from previous versions).
The PONcast player, featuring the inaugural Notts podcast, will make its comeback at a later date.
A member page that displays the total content reach, along with historical records on specific dates, featuring additional statistics for members.

I would like to thank all the newcomers, returning, and regular members for their support. It is appreciated, and no effort goes unnoticed by me.

I couldn't sing our community's praises any more.

Thank you,
Chris

[Investigating] Update regarding SSL/missing functions

Just to update everyone, if you are getting an SSL certificate error, the site is safe, and you are fine to proceed to use it. I am curious if members feel it's too late for us to host our annual awards? I make no excuses, I haven't been on the ball, and despite May being busy with several birthdays, my anniversary, and of course my family's week away at the east coast came at a time when I have been stretched for time. However, I should have taken some of my spare time to ensure this was done.

If members feel like there's still time, I will put every effort into ensuring it happens.

Yet, I do apologise as I love seeing how votes turn out and acknowledging the various parts of our season. Including members who contribute to the community. I understand that most, if not 98%, of those who read PON will, but I do deeply apologise because I set the highest standard, and again this season I have fallen short. So, I do apologise for this.

If the awards are too late, I thank Robbie for posting about the Man of the Match polls conducted by him for every league game. It highlights truly who deserves to be named the Pride of Nottingham's Play of the Season.

There's going to be some sudden changes to the site, but I will try to make this as smooth as possible. As I have been working on ensuring a major upgrade will go smoothly. I had thought of making PON offline for a few days, however, I don't want to discourage people from posting. So, my aim is to close off sections and disable others as I work to get the site to as it should be.

Ideally this wouldn't take so long, but with the changes at core level it does mean some resources and custom parts are unfortunately stuck in limbo.

The update will ensure a much better performance, along with a lot of modernisation, and I do believe after a period of time everyone will come to prefer it. The new editor, it's awesome. I love how flexible it is and it will make my editorial job a lot easier. Which means better focused content, and providing the best that PON can deliver.

I would like to thank everyone for their contributions during the 2024-25 season. My heartfelt thanks goes out to @Dan and Rich from Chud Photography. Thank you for being awesome, and supporting PON with your photos.

It's unfortunate that several attempts to allow politically based discussions have failed during the time the Pride of Nottingham has existed. Therefore, it is banned immediately from today.

In line with the majority of online forums, I have decided to remove the political forum.

This might upset some people. However, there is never an easy decision, and I can honestly say I have tried in many ways to make it work without issues. But such is the nature of passion; it is impossible.

The only exception is cartoons, as these can be funny. But any attempts to discuss politics in writing will be removed by the moderation team.

I do not want to discourage active participants, but the site and community are better off keeping things non-politically aligned. There are plenty of subjects to discuss which won't become heated, so I encourage members to support this decision.

In addition to the changes, I will limit the site's access for guests. Forum posts will have a limit, as with articles, but most visitors will be able to read articles, features, and news without an issue until this content is viewed more than ten times. This counter will include all the articles. I would advise those who are not members to consider joining and becoming a part of the community.

Some forums will also be made strictly members-only. In time, I will make some features unavailable to newcomers. Such as the ability to edit content, privileges will be gained by active participation of the community. This will fall in line with badges and awards to be used as incentives for involvement. Our community grows with your support, which is always appreciated.

	Best wishes,
Chris

I have no plans to abandon Twitter, at all.

As the very first Notts fan and fan account to join Threads, I take great pride in this milestone. I realise that social media isn't going anywhere, but with fans making home to networks such as Blue Sky - I believe it warrants a PON account. This has been encouraged by @ARLukomski, which at first I wasn't all that taken to doing but in hindsight it does seem to be as equal to Threads.

You can follow Pride of Nottingham on Blue Sky here.

I openly acknowledge that the site, and social media channels have been quiet, but this is for personal reasons. I greatly appreciate your understanding. My aim is to ensure Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, Threads and Blue Sky are all different in some form.

Which I would also like to mention, that within the new year I plan to open a discord server that will be more for updating the community here on site related downtime, maintenance, articles, news etc.

Due to the hacking incident, and even before that I am anxious about sharing sensitive information outright on social media channels.

We are implementing some changes, which mean that members can no longer sign in with their usernames but instead with their emails.

If you use Facebook, Microsoft, Google, or Apple, this change won't affect you. However, I would strongly encourage all members to ensure their account has a physical password too.

A physical password is one that is encrypted within our database. If you are unable to access one of the above services, all you need to know is your email and that physical password. Over the years, some users have privacy emails provided by services like Apple. Accounts with temporary and false emails will no longer be accepted here.

If you don't wish to be contacted or receive emails, you have the option to opt out and change your notification settings.

However, opting out of email notifications would prevent you from staying informed about what is going on within the Pride of Nottingham community, such as comments and responses. I highly recommend transitioning to grouped emails, which are less frequent.

Recently, a major error caused the Pride of Nottingham site to be down for a considerable amount of time this past Sunday.

In the future, I will set up a way for members to stay updated with events like this, outside of social media for security reasons. I will also ask for permission to send emails to those who want updates in the rare event the site experiences issues. This is to keep members better informed.

I acknowledge that it's not productive to have areas with good intentions that are irregularly updated. I will look into what can be changed to ensure everything is up to a useful standard.

If you have any issues, please contact me. I am more than happy to assist you. Don't feel uncomfortable or worry about wasting my time. I am here to help and ensure that the Pride of Nottingham is accessible to those who wish to contribute.

In the early days of the Pride of Nottingham, I committed to writing regular newsletters, filled with articles and content from the site. Despite my efforts, the low subscriber engagement was discouraging.

I wondered if perhaps my content wasn't resonating or if I was missing the mark somehow. Yet, these newsletters were among the first, predating the club's embrace of email marketing as a valuable tool.

For me, the goal was always to inform members about news and encourage their participation on the site. Now, with some exciting projects on the horizon, I'm closer than ever to achieving realistic targets. The newsletters will provide a balanced insight into the site and news, featuring guest columnists sharing their perspectives. I am highly encouraged by this and hope the community receives them well.
