If you can watch this and comment, you'll be a knight within PoN's ranks. I probably should be mindful when using the word 'highlights', I see the club appear not to have socially shared this yet (unlike normal). Probably because of this reason but if this gains more than five comments I will be happy. It makes for difficult viewing, what do you make of Bristol City? >https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UXhm0FUkzYU

Cockney rhyming slang for the matchday chatroom's favourite anatomical part! So, links between the 2 clubs. Immediate thoughts go to the Warnock era, and the 3-way tussle for promotion around 1990. Eventually a title race between City and Rovers, with us taking the Wembley route past Tranmere Rovers. Remember the days and players as though it was yesterday - Supermarket end at Bolton anyone?! Players - one standout candidate for me is Martin Kuhl, a short stint at Meadow Lane remembered for one "Barn"storming reason I am sure you recall! Special mention for Abe Akinbiyi too :-) Over to you folks...

  3. Bradford City are one of them teams I strongly dislike, I'll openly admit that. It could be their fans or something else, I don't know but I just do. For this reason I want Notts to crush them and their glory supporting fans (they're a big club don't you know). I do respect them, what they achieved in the League Cup was special and how they made it to the Premiership ALL THOSE YEARS ago. Also I liked Neil Redfearn as a player, so back then they had a few which I did but I've never really liked the club. It's another tough game, one which Jones and Thompson will have to be wanting to win against surely? I see us being able to beat them provided we stick at what we do an…

Slap bang in the festive season, apologies for lateness in this game's submission... Too big for division four, Benito Carbone, Stan-the-man are all immediate thoughts relating to the Bantams. I think of uncle Colin's hometown club and, of course, "that" debut by Lee Hughes / Munto. Players - well, present company excepted (3 of 'em!), Ricky Ravenhill and Graeme Lee are my offerings to start with. Over to you - those that are not up to Valley Parade.

  5. Started by Chris,

Another tough game, one which Alan Smith's knowledge of MK Dons will be vital. I'd be tempted to give Smith the nod, rough them up and use him as someone to kill the game. No doubt they're a seriously decent side at this level, however I don't fancy them for promotion despite currently being second. I think Notts will have to match their intensity to get anything from here, they must not be allowed to get into their flow. Otherwise this could be Bristol City again, which I am hoping isn't the case. Notts need to get a solid grip on their defending, I don't expect us to be beating Bristol City, MK Dons etc but I do expect to see us stand tall and mark exactly how we kno…

so, the on-the-road-record still stands in contrast to some stuttering home form. up next to test the meadow lane mettle are MK Dons, and the evergreen question of "are they related to the SW london lot of pre-2004 or not?". kilobyte upon kilobyte of internet space has been consumed by this, quite frankly right or wrong, they're here, and here to stay. as a hypothetical thought - "wakefield magpies" anyone... onto links. being a relatively young league club - either with our without the wimbledon FC history - links are to be few and far between. i'll start with one from each, adam nowland (old club) mad dog (new club), and it therefore stands to reaso…

Two surprises in the Notts line up when it was revealed that Colby Bishop was absent due to his inclusion in the first team squad which was playing at Rochdale. The second was their regular 'keeper Monty Parks was out injured and was replaced by the Notts County under-15 'keeper. After only six minutes into the game Notts took the lead over Burton when Rico Fyfe turned sharply about 12 yards from goal to fire a shot just inside the post. Four minutes later Notts went further ahead when a quality cross from right-back Tom Rigby, one of many Tom provided during the game, was headed home firmly by Larty Sarpong. Notts were playing some really good football with …

  8. Another good test coming up Saturday, although it's not one we should be fearful. If we go into the game prepared and structured, I'd fancy us to win this game but it's never so straight forward. Having lost two games, we could do with responding now and I would take a draw. Rochdale aren't impressive to me, rather standard side in this league and are exactly the types of teams we need to be doing well against. They're a good side don't get me wrong, however considering our recent histories it should be treated like a local derby and one of them we do not want to lose. I think the score will 2-0, supposedly it's pay on the day only? That might impact attendances. Thou…

Following the JPT exit - which was totally overshadowed by the sad news Tuesday brought - the maggies are back to league action tomorrow. If ever there was a time to 'pull a performance out of the bag' this season, then tomorrow must surely be it, in paying tribute to a fine lady and supporter of both Notts and this online community. Once a small Lancastrian club destined to be anchored in "division 4", our Munto season also saw the 'dale rise for the first time in years. 14pts, Keith Hill and cheating all spring immediately to mind, as well as a packed kop singing their thoughts unto Keith Hill one fine spring evening... Connections? Gary Jones - NOT Sean Fa…

  10. So, is Carrol suspended or not? This will make a huge difference because if he is, although I think Pilks can do a job. I would be concerned about pop shots from distance, then again wasn't it against Preston last season he proved his worth? I'm sure he will cope but I am fearful this will be the end of the road for Wembley. A lot depends on how we respond and set ourselves up. I have to be honest, I thought we would lose this before Swindon. Then I felt 1-2 to them, so keep to that and hope for the best. Thoughts?

  12. one year ago, the Grealish/McGregor inspired 'pies were seemingly climbing up to midtable and orient were running away at the top. it just proves - if proof were needed - that one weekend doth not maketh a season... so, onwards to PNE - the paintpot cup represents a reasonable path to wembley, we're closer than we have been via this route for a while (wolves '88 perhaps?). to me, recent history at preston conjures up a plastic pitch, billy davies, and a prime example of 90s/00s bottom-division-resurgence-clubs (hull, swansea, cardiff, burnley, fulham to name a few). players that link the clubs - well, i missed the opening game of the season so although a repeat…

  13. I think some will have this labelled as "I'll accept a draw", I would have myself but I don't know why, I feel we might be a side capable of surprising Swindon Town. When you look at each times form and then compare, well you would again side with Swindon but it's never plain sailing. They've done extremely well against top sides, teams you would expect them to struggle against. Against sides low down it becomes a little more surprising but teams which play as a tight unit actually get something against them. I wouldn't write ourselves off here and I wouldn't put it down as a draw either. I expect the game to be difficult, they will cause us trouble but I think if we ar…

I have just read this and it is an excellent and accurate article on Swindon Town. In his aftermatch report on local radio he stressed that the team had to keep emotionally detached from the game and concentrate on playing to win. Indiscipline has cost us dear this season and perhaps we are turning the corner. It appears we played well today but perhaps that is just local reporters' bias. Joe, do you have a second team? If not why not follow us now and again because I reckon you could buy into Lee Power's masterplan.

The cup dreams continue, though the league form has a slight stutter. Up next at Meadow Lane is Swindon Town. Ossie Ardiles, Glenn Hoddle, financial irregularities, Steve McMahon, and John "Pizza-man 'tasche" Gorman all spring to mind. However - what we all want on this thread is player / staff connections between the two clubs. I'll start with Steve Mildenhall - good keeper, but following on quite soon after Cherry and Ward - as two outstanding custodians - he was oft criticised and prone to an odd howler. I do remember clearly the start of the great escape season, when we seemed to concede 4 goals almost every other game. (just checked, details were at po…

  17. The tie which hasn't wanted to happen just yet, hopefully will go ahead on Tuesday night. Doncaster this season have been very disappointing, I would suspect even their own fans would agree but likewise we can't write them off. Our lads shouldn't get ahead of themselves either! We was knocked out the League and F.A Cup, so if we go into this thinking we will make Wembley without a glitch, I feel the same will happen. I don't expect this to be the case for us, I think we will go in prepared. Since this is our last chance to have a bit of momentum from a cup, I do feel we should treat it just the same as any other game. Yes, I'm not that interested in the JPT - I still b…

  19. Started by shepshedpie,

Notts County's youth team arrived at Doncaster this morning with the knowledge that a win by two goals would send the young 'Pies to the top of the table on goal difference. Notts fell a goal behind after fifteen minutes when their keeper completely missed a clearance from a back pass as the ball bobbled past him and into the net. Doncaster held the lead for less than ten minutes when a run down the right wing by Luther Wilding followed by a quality cross was met by Colby Bishop who side-footed home just inside the near post. Doncaster came on strong in the second half and a second error by the Notts keeper resulted in a goalmouth scramble from which the home …

Having beaten the league leaders Hull City 2-0 on Saturday, Notts youth team defeated mid-table Grimsby by the same scoreline this afternoon at Arnold and moved up to second place in the league table – just three points behind the leaders. Notts were ahead after only three minutes when a cross from Colby Bishop was fired home by Rico Fyfe. Notts doubled their lead on seven minutes when a Grimsby defender handled the ball in the penalty area and Colby Bishop coolly slotted home the penalty. The rest of the game saw Notts in control and trying to extend their lead with only the occasional attack by Grimsby. A very good performance by the young ‘Pies whose…

  21. So, onwards and upwards once more. Donny Rovers next up in the Sherpa Freight Van Trophy (old money), a team in this division who embody and define "yo-yo" along with Peterborough United. Could be a win, draw or defeat - complete unknown at the moment, so for the next week lets put the game to on side and think on the players / staff who have represented both clubs. My opening trio are; Paul Barnes, Paul Heffernan, and a real wildcard, Gavin Worboys. I distinctly remember Warnock paying £100k for him - and never even gave him his debut!

  23. Important game! One which if we don't get anything from it could start to be where comments creep in and it won't help the tough run of fixtures coming up. We have to be realistic here, there's no reason why we couldn't win but a draw would be good. I know we have to hope for a win, as this will keep us up but personally I'd like us to avoid dropping down the league. I know some fans expect this to be the case, I think we might but I also remember last year how we achieved the great escape by believing. Sheffield United are picking up, though some of their fans aren't happy and there is still an opportunity for us to cause an upset. Let's forget about Accrington and Ye…

  24. "Is this the real life, is this just fantasy" starts some Queen Song. Following Saturday, it is a question I too pose of Notts County 14/15 thus far. Patchy start, Long unbeaten run followed by another patchy run. Which is true and which is temporary? What can we hang our season on, and what is blips / peaks? So, onto Brammall Lane on Friday night, and a club surprisingly still plying its trade in these "depths" last coing so near a couple of years ago. The day we won at Wycombe, Stevenage drew with Sheff U. A result that proved to be costly for both us and the blades; we missed out on GD to the 'newtown lot' in that years playoffs; and Sheff U were left t…

So, losing to Accrington means we are out of the FA cup at the first hurdle and wont be hosting Yeovil in R2. However, some consolation is that we play them on Saturday back in division three action when we look to build on a season that overall exceeds expectations, regardless of early cup exits. So, connections? Connor Clifford bizarrely springs straight to mind, a Chelsea graduate, courtesy of Ince who also failed to convince... Anymore?
