  1. Started by pie_in_shanghai,

ahead of our game against the divisions "whippet boys" here we go again for links between the two clubs.... my first player is not one that has played for both clubs, though for me is synonymous with oakwell - martin kuhl. if if if (etc) he hadnt been sent off what may have happened in the mid-nineties, eh? chris o'grady.

  2. This was a very exciting match but who deserves to be named man of the match?

  3. Started by pie_in_shanghai,

So, by request, please find the inaugural MAGnet thread. This is for fun, to brainstorm and remember fondly (or otherwise!) the players, coaches, managers that link the 2 clubs ahead of our games. This week, its "that non-league lot from somewhere near Gatwick airport", i think it is quite a tricky start to (hopefully) a regular feature. My offering - and only thought is Dean Leacock. There must be more....

Just arrived at Basford United's ground, looking forward to it. Super Pie didn't want to come, its a shame but hey ho. 4-3 Notts win for me. Anyone else going?

  5. This season Gillingham are proving themselves not to be push overs! (much like ourselves), they're a much better side than the one we saw last season. A lot of this goes down to the experienced "Paul Taylor" for me and he's got players like Danny Kedwell doing much better. Of course they also have Cody McDonald, both of which have scored four so far this season. Notts will be thankful for the sterling defence we have this season, which I hope the two gills players will find hard to face. That said, I do think we can beat them. If we can get the crowd going and the football flowing, I don't see why we can't beat them. I think the score could be 2-0, I at least hope big R…

  6. Admittedly I don't personally care about the JPT, win or lose. However, I do feel @Pies4u had a point about confidence - winning games certainly does that and I would really like to see our current run continue. Bringing three wins to Crawley would be massive, it would be something very positive for the club and we could do with this happening for aslong as possible. The reason I don't care about the JPT is the fact nobody takes it seriously until a side reaches say the semi finals (perhaps before). Well, some smaller clubs might become excited before but the bigger teams don't respect it in my opinion. It could do with being remodeled to regain serious interest. This …

  7. Started by Pies4u,

As this is a home game, thus I'll be attending and not in the chat room, I thought I'd start by prompting the "links" question that Pie in Shanghai always poses. I threw Baudet into the mix for the Crewe game but I didn't see any other suggestions. Anyway, just to start the ball rolling there are plenty of Notts/Gills links - clue: think goalkeepers (I can think of at least 3) - but I'll chuck in Mick Galloway as a "starter for 10" before PinS gets to you on Sat. Not trying to steal his thunder, merely trying to promote the thinking process and stimulate interest. Sometimes there are only a couple of us "playing" but it's a laugh and it fills the commentary void on occa…

  8. This game is one which we can't waste really, if we play like we did last Saturday I can see us getting the win. Crewe are struggling, although they do have some decent players. I don't think this will be as easy as some are lining it up to be! Being bottom isn't somewhere you will want to be, they have young lads and are trying to pull them together. Hopefully the fans can make an impact, against Chesterfield they did. I'd keep Adams on the wing myself, I think he did well there and this gives others a chance. I'd give Thompson a break though, Chesterfield saw him as the weak link and did well running at him. Roy Carroll might not have so much to do in this game, unli…

  9. Chesterfield are doing very well at the moment, they're scoring for fun and are doing pretty well for newboys in this league. At the start of the season, I would have predicted them to finish around 10th and so currently finding themselves inside the playoffs is something their own fans must be very excited about. That said, I just can't imagine them being in the Championship. I don't expect Notts to get anything here, I think a draw would be a good result. I always hope we can win, though I don't see it. We always stand a chance at getting something, I just see them being able to break us. Thoughts?

5pm kick off, need a point to avoid relegation. Anyone joining me and giving them our support. Obligatory drinks in Navvy first. Let's be having ya

  11. This is the game I saw ending as a draw, however I think it's more important we get the result and 3 points now. If the formation is the same, with little attacking I can see more fans becoming rest less. Oldham aren't a side to fear, however they have a former magpie loanee and he's scoring! 6 from 5 games, quite impressive. I'd like to see a few changes, nothing major but it would be nice to see some more pace injected into the side. The score will be quite close I think, perhaps 2-1... I do feel we can do enough to warrant and take the lead, it will be an hard working game. Thoughts?

  13. This will be an interesting game if the rumours flying around hold any truth. I personally always expect Orient to struggle after the amazing season they had last year, so I think the clubs being harsh on Russell Slade (if it is true). I don't expect them to come here allowing us to push them over. They still have several very good players and they play as a team (with a mutual understanding). I do feel that with us being at home we have the advantage. That said, I think the result will be narrow and I don't expect an high scoring game. It should be open and end to end, so with that in mind I will say 1-0 to Notts. How do you all feel about the situation at Orient? (es…

  14. Tough game against a very inform League One side, I've heard a couple of people say we will win but I think that's being somewhat overly optimistic. Of course we might, though I would be more focused on getting a draw as anything else would be a bonus. When was the last time we beat the team sitting at the very top of the table at their ground? Honestly I see a defeat or very well earned point. Sadly I think it will be something like 3-1 to them but hey, we will bounce back against Leyton Orient. Thoughts?

  15. Started by weymouthPIE,

Sounded like a very comfortable 2-0 win over a pretty ordinary Stags side tonight. Stags started well but as we got into our stride we bagn to dominate, and but for a couple of good saves from their keeper could have been more than 1-0 up at the break. Got the second goal at the exact right time just when they were having one of their better spells, and from there it seemed to just peter out. I know a lot of folks wouldnt have minded had we gone out tonight but I think it was important we went into this international break on the back of a win, especially after the dissapointment of Sunday. Plus it's always nice to put one over on your local rivals. Draw for round 2 w…

  16. Today sees the return of ex manager Steve Cotterill with his Bristol City team. This will be another tough test for the 'Pies. Who's going? Let's have your score predictions and attendance. I reckon 1-1 with a goal from Ismail. It's going to be a nice sunny day so I reckon we'll get 5,879, with 451 from Brizzol.

  17. Port Vale, interesting game. What do I make of this? It's hard to tell, it seems the early signs suggest we might be better away from home. I'll take a draw here and I think it's very likely, though Vale can and perhaps might come off better. I just hope to see some comments here to give me an insight to the match, as it will be weird not knowing myself. COME ON YOU PIES! Ps. Folks by all means feel free to start the match thread, I'd appreciate it since I will be away for two weeks but once back PoN will be back to full steam.

  19. Started by Chris,

This will be a test of character, I'm expecting a better performance but I always said this would be more difficult than last Saturday's game. If a team gets on top of us, it's going to be interesting to see how we respond. I am hopeful for a win but I see a draw. We need to get our first win, I'll be in the crowd trying to impact the game vocally. It will be depressing if it doesn't go to plan. 2-2

  20. Hi, I'm the pre-match reporter for the Port Vale Fans Forum One Vale Fan. Part of my role is to contact fans of our forthcoming opponents to ask them a few questions and gain their views on the upcoming fixture between our sides in order to produce a report which we release on the site a couple of days prior to the game. I wondered if one or more of you (up to a maximum of 3 or 4) have a few minutes and would be prepared to share a few views if you would kindly offer your feelings on the game by answering the following few questions; 1. Tell us a bit about yourself & history as a fan? 2. How do you expect your team to do this season (inc…

  25. Started by super_ram,

Last September Steve McClaren took over from Nigel Clough at my club.I wasn't very happy at the time but I'm very happy to be to be proved wrong SO FAR .Rams were comfortably placed in the championship and, with 2 or 3 loan signings and a little tweeking of the formations and playing style went on to narrowly miss out on promotion to the promised land.About a month after SM's appointment Sean Derry became Notts manager but his, and Notts, situation was much different, with Notts in freefall and facing almost inevitable relegation.SD's approach was similar to SM in that he brought in some good loan signings and tried to get an underperforming team back on track.SM faile…
