Carroll celebrated with his former teammates after their landmark victory in north London in September and has tipped them to repeat the feat at the Stadio Georgios Karaiskaki. "I played at Dagenham when they were at the Emirates so I went to see my old friends afterwards." "They were on a high because it was the first time they had won for many years in England." "They can certainly beat Arsenal tonight," said the Northern Ireland international." -- I have to be honest, I have about as much interest in the Champions League as I do the Premiership these days - yet I thought Arsenal had crashed out of the competition? Or, at least they looked certain to…

10 games gone for Borussia. 5 straight defeats followed by 5 straight wins. Is that consistency or inconsistency? Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

As most of the German football discussion is going on under "Best league", I've taken the liberty of opening a dedicated thread. After 13 games Borussia Dortmund sit rock bottom of the table. Before the season started I thought this could be their year again with virtually all of Bayern's team having started pre-season late due to the World Cup. How wrong I was! Earlier in the season they were playing alright, creating chances but just nothing would fall for them. The beauty of the Bundesliga is its unpredictability, Bayern apart. Who could imagine Manchester United actually battling relegation? In other (entirely predictable) news, according to Kicker Lukas P…

Juventus, Man City and Sevilla. Bang goes our hopes of third place in the group and a shot at the Europa League, still @Blackville and I will enjoy the visit to Wastelands in December.

I was going to post this after the last round: http://www.dailyrecord.co.uk/sport/football/football-news/celtics-scott-brown-mikael-lustig-6209542 Then last night, we had this: http://www.dailyrecord.co.uk/sport/football/football-news/malmo-keeper-johan-wiland-brands-6283987 Celtic are a great club with a fantastic tradition. Incidents like the above sully the good name of the club. Leigh Griffiths is a fine player but because he's top dog in Scotland, he seems to think he's Messi or someone! Scott Brown is a fine midfielder but his actions let him down. Arrogance has crept into the Celtic players since the demise of Rangers. There's no one to reall…

I certainly enjoyed the game yesterday, and gave out a loud yell when the Juve equalizer went in! It was made all the sweeter by the fact that Juve were seen as the weakest of the teams in the semi-finals. My heart wants Juve to win the final, but my head is saying Barca probably will destroy them. How do you guys/gals think the final will go down?

Bayern 0-2 Gladbach on Sunday - did you see it on BT Sport? Two league games against FCB this season, 4 points, no goals conceded. First win by 2 clear goals ever in Munich. Under the cosh for first 30 minutes, then a mistake by Neuer and Gladbach were in control more and more as the game went on. Bayern, out fought and out-thought. Oh to have been there... All together now (to the tune of Yellow Submarine). Zieht den Bayern die Lederhosen aus Lederhosen aus, Lederhosen aus, etc. etc.

Read Madrid limped into the last 8 last night. They lead 2-0 after the first leg away to Schalke. Schalke looked dead and buried but played fantastic in the second leg. They won 4-3 on the night, another goal and they would have gone through on away goals. Porto cruised into the last 8 after a 5-1 agg. win over Basel. They won 4-0 at home last night. Porto are a decent side and shouldn't be underestimated. They may play in a weak league but they are more than capable of mixing it with the elite in the CL.

Gladbach are at home to Sevilla in the 2nd leg, 1-0 from the first leg in Spain. Fingers crossed, I have to say I'm not overly optimistic, but it would be a tremendous achievement to put out the holders.

We hear a lot of 'how good are Barcelona to watch'. Is it just me that they bore to death? It's like watching a Keith Curle side. Pointless passing for the sake of things. OK, their passes are punctuated by individual brilliance of Messi or Suarez. However, their constant sideways-backwards and forward only to come back - is so boring, you are half asleep by the time you get to see the brilliance.

I've tried to use some statistics to determine which is Europe's most competitive league. Welcome to the ICC (Ivansneck Competitiveness Coefficient). I decided to base it on the points gap between 5th and 3rd bottom. 5th because it generally means a team gest into the play offs or Europe. 3rd bottom usually means danger or relegation, i.e. it is a rough indication of the gap between success and failure. I decided to use only fully national leagues with at least 16 clubs in them, so no tiny leagues like Scotland or Austria for example. Obviously in a 24 team league the points spread will be greater than in a 16 club league, so I've taken that into account by dividi…

Right well as far as the game was concerned there was little in the way of competition, Rangers for all their off field problems and time trying to fight their way back up to the top, the quality just isn't there. Oh the spirit was, even though there was the gulf in class, and admittedly the clashes were no where near as intense or as frequent, they still happened.... Was it ever likely to be any different? Part of the Ibrox faithful blame Celtic and others for ensuring they were demoted so far down the pyramid... rightly or wrongly!!! This has done nothing to fuel the rivalry and hatred, as the following report highlights, the sectarian element is alive and well in Scot…
