  1. Ronaldo's goal against Juve was featured on the German news today. It was very nice but you can go overboard. I saw a better one than that a few years back in Mannheim... can anyone top this? (For the anoraks out there, this match also happened to be Emre Can's senior debut.)

Marked by his only season in the green jersey, Anthony Garcia welcomed us at his home in Aigues-Mortes (Gard) the day after the death of his boss Loulou Nicollin. Are you surprised to have been appointed coach of ASSE fourteen years after leaving Sainté? (Laughs) Not really because I've been coaching for years. Nobody knows but I won a few titles in Lille and Monaco, it made sense that we appeal to me. I will bring my knowledge and my solid experience to Saint-Etienne. Can you tell us more about it…

Time for another German football update from the depths of the Regionalliga Südwest. SV Waldhof returned from the winter break early for their rearranged game with Stuttgarter Kickers. The 3-2 win took them within a point of the leaders and six points clear of third place having played a game more. Next weekend TSV Steinbach are the visitors, who are third. A home win and we can dare to dream of the play-offs and promotion again... (the top two qualify for the play-offs) On Saturday's match: good entertainment, lots of chances and, in the first half, a Stuttgart team that is better than it's league position would suggest. Waldhof played them to death in the second ha…

  8. Graham Burke, he who used to play for Notts County then left for Shamrock Rovers before aiming a parting shot at the Magpies (what a rotter), has had a bit of a memorable debut for the Irish side. From Pundit Arena (http://www.punditarena.com/football/sokeefe/graham-burke-rovers-red/): The second half, however, (or the last fifteen minutes of it at least) was dominated by new Rovers signing Graham Burke. The former Aston Villa and Notts County forward was only introduced with twenty minutes remaining – replacing Roberto Lopes as visiting manager Stephen Bradey sought to claw something back – and his impact was felt almost instantly as he halved the deficit with …

I went last night. Great atmosphere, decent game with LCFC just edging it although and extra 10 minutes would have seen a Porto equaliser I think. The thing I notice about Leicester everytime I go is that they work incredibly hard for each other and the crowd are (at least for now) very forgiving of mistakes by their team. The Meadow Lane crowd could learn from this. I think this helps Leicester play with no fear of failure.

On Wednesday, Borussia are at home to Barcelona. The workmanlike 2-0 win on Saturday at home to Ingolstadt whcih @Blackville and I were at was Gladbach's 10th successive home win. 11 would be a club record. Nothing like choosing easy opposition to break a record against!! Still, Messi's not playing...

Well it all started again last night. Result of the night is Barcelona's 7-0 destruction of Celtic. Celtic missed a penalty at 1-0. It reached 34.4 degrees in Gravesend yesterday. Meanwhile in Manchester over an inch of rain fell in an hour meaning Man City vs Borussia Monchengladbach was postponed until tonight. Arsenal went to PSG and drew 1-1. They'll be happy with that after being outplayed for most of the game. They scored with their first shot on target after 78 mins. PSG missed a host of chances, some were laughable misses, I actually laughed.......

Well tomorrow it all begins again, with another trip to the Wastelands of East Manchester, exactly the same fixture as the last CL group game Gladbach played in. There's been the usual problems getting tickets, with even the people who work for Gladbach being denied access to the Hopsitality areas, 'because they're German'. Racism is alive and well in Englsih football!! After City's performance against Man Ure and with Kun Aguerro available for the game I fear the worst... But things may get better, after all the next game is against Barcelona...

Objects thrown onto the pitch, not an unknown phenomenon as these two arch-rivals with plenty of hooligans faced each other. But - on this occasion in the 12th minute soft-toys were thrown on in a co-ordinated gesture to be collected for ill children, excellent gesture

After the nightmare draw in last season's Champions League, it's same again this year: Barcelona, Man City, Celtic and Gladbach. First game at Manchester on Tuesday Sept 13th, if anyone wants tickets let me know asap.
