It's time that Southgate had the bottle to distance Maguire from the England squad. I get the loyalty as whenever he's selected to play for England he very rarely puts a foot wrong. But, the media are always gonna be there to question his inclusion. He's out of favour at Man United and should have took the chance to move away from Old Trafford for West Ham to get his career back on track and get back to being the player we know he can be. If a player isn't playing at club level, they shouldn't be selected anyway in my opinion. I understand why Southgate has said this and is defending Maguire, as he's good at protecting his players. Although, ha…

  10. It’s a tricky subject to discuss, but let’s keep this respectful. I am surprised that FIFA hasn’t followed suit with the Olympics. When transgender athletes first started taking part, I always thought that it would be a slippery slope because, despite their transition, they still have an advantage over females. I am all for supporting people, no matter what their sex is or what a person may identify as. I don’t care if people are straight, gay, etc. Likewise with race, I don’t have an issue with it and I wish more people would be open-minded in this regard. However, I am still torn on the decision to include a transgender player in the women’s World Cup. Part of me t…

Since getting into football at the age of 10, I've always had the latest England shirt. Less so in recent years. Since switching from Umbro to Nike, the designs haven't been as good as they were when they were with Umbro but also the prices have gone ridiculous for them. I think I only got the first 2 kits since they made the switch. Over the past few years, I've started collecting retro England shirts from multiple stores all through Score Draw. Personally, I prefer the older kits to the newer ones. Can't beat a classic football shirt. I've now managed to complete a collection. The 1990 England shirt collection is now complete. These shirts are up there as on…

  12. Do you have any memories of seeing a player during a past World Cup that made you think “wow”? It might not be a big name; it could be an underdog like Achraf Hakimi for Morocco or Antoine Griezmann back when he wasn’t as well-known and surprised people with how good he can be. I’m interested in seeing what members here would list as their top 5 players that stood out.

  14. When supporting football, some fans tend to focus only on players who are from the same nation as them or who play for a team from their country. However, some supporters have a soft spot for players from different nationalities, even those who have no relation to their country. As a Notts County fan, have you ever supported players from countries like Australia, Trinidad and Tobago, Portugal, Algeria, or any others? Did this happen because of a former Notts player or just because you have a particular affinity for that country? Let's discuss it...

  15. Dear All, Happy new year. I am involved in a university research project looking at the recent World Cup in Qatar and whether this was a highly unusual tournament, unlikely to be repeated, or the start of future World Cups loaded with political and social issues. To answer this, we have created a short survey that I hope you can spare a few minutes to share your views: https://teesside.onlinesurveys.ac.uk/the-qatar-world-cup-and-the-new-politics-of-sport Thanks in advance for your time.

  16. Started by DangerousSausage,

This summer we would usually be looking forward to the World Cup, but we'll have to wait until November due to FIFA's decision to award it to the footballing hotbed that is Qatar. As everyone surely knows by now, the regime in Qatar isn't the most savoury one; an army of foreign workers has been called in to build the necessary infrastructure and the construction of the stadiums has come at a tremendous human cost. Like the 1978 tournament, the 2022 World Cup will be an example of sportswashing - a dictatorship using sports to boost its reputation and distract attention away from human rights abuses. This begs the question of how football fans here should react …

Is anyone else watching this? I've just watched England come from behind to beat Spain. At times in the first half I thought Spain were going to do a number on us, they looked a lot more comfortable on the ball and far more dangerous. We only started turning the screw in the last quarter of an hour. You've got to admire the team's character, even if we got a little lucky that the equaliser wasn't disallowed. It'll be interesting to see how far this team can go now. With a semi final place and the crowd behind them, they've always got a chance. But from what I've seen from the German team, they're on a different level to our girls. It's great to see the Engl…

  18. For those who are interested in watching on Wednesday Evening... Come on Lloegr! It’s also just dawned on me that Connell Rawlinson is Welsh, I’m surprised he wasn’t selected for Wales C.

  19. Thought Hungary were so well set up...a mixture of their top 3 pressing, discipline to keep players behind the ball, making it difficult for England to find space

Time to turn my attention to the Euros now that Notts are done for the season. I watched Wales vs Switzerland. Wales were lucky to draw in the end. Bale and Ramsey didn't turn up. Their keeper, Danny Ward, was superb, kept them in it. They need a big improvement to beat Turkey. It was frightening to see Christian Erikkson collapse on the pitch. Thankfully he's stable. Denmark decided to finish the game and perhaps it's no surprise that they lost 1-0 to Finland. They missed a penalty that Erikkson would have taken and probably have scored but some things are more important than football.
