Shocking. Russia were bad, but SA made Mansfailed look good! They were rally poor and would struggle in the 2nd Division. When I think of some of the teams not there this time and the quality of some that are. Shocking!

https://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/football/44208841 "I believe we can win it - anyone can. I cannot sit here and say we are not going to win it because we could do. It is my mindset and I want to win at everything I do. The players in the team want to as well. It is worth fighting for. I am sure we have all had dreams of lifting it and it is an opportunity for us." why has southgate made him the captain too? i hope his words match the effort on the pitch.

First half quite good, mostly played in Nigeria half.England should have made more of superiority.Second half was worrying as Nigeria were very much improved, especially when they pulled a goal back.Need to cut out sloppiness and overplaying.Overall a good workout and it was a friendly!

We look very comfortable in possession of the ball and fair do's to Southgate for getting us playing in a formation that works well for us Rashford especially looks good. So wasted out on the wing at United Back three look very solid, Delph has played well in the midfield. He's done well to adapt from playing left back for his club to centre mid at national level.

Not WC as such as it was a friendly, but good to see two Ex Notts lads getting on the scoresheet with Burke and Judge doing the honours. Burke was a real enigma for me. Never played a full game looking good. Always looked off his game then suddenly flashed brilliance for 2 minutes then went back to misplaced passes. Wonder how he’d do with our current management setup and being a few years older. And Judge, class. Always was and always will be. So good to see him fit again.

Not many youngsters will remember Ray Wilson who died today, he was a member of the England team who won the World Cup in 1966. He came from Shirebrook and his other claim to fame is that he used to live a few doors down from my Aunty Sally and as a boy used to visit her house often.

Here's a fun link - create your own World Cup draw. When I did it England got Belgium, Egypt and Japan in the group stage and beat Denmark in the second round before our customary quarter-final defeat at the hands of Poland. France won the cup, beating Germany in the final. Give it a try - what do you get? Anyone who manages to get the same as the real World Cup draw wins a year's supply of my toenail clippings.

In case any of you are able to follow it, Australia are currently being held 1-1 by ten-man Syria in their World Cup play-off and it's 15 minutes from going to penalties with a place in Russia at stake. Could be one of those cheesy World Cup stories in the making...

The other Friday when England played Melta, I heard a lot of interesting thoughts regarding the current national team - including views on Gareth Southgate. It seems like there's a large amount of national fans who don't believe in the current crop of players. I myself have lost interest in watching them, I used to watch all the friendlies religiously but for me these days I just don't expect to be entertained. It's not that I don't believe, it's more a lack of interest. Yet I have become that disillusioned with the current setup, team and choice of managers that I can see how badly it's ruined the English game. I recall rushing home as a school b…

Sky Bet, sponsors of the EFL, have donated 72 signed shirts, one for each club in the Championship, League One and League Two, to the Great Britain Deaf football team to help raise the funding they need to get to the Deaflympics in Turkey in July. The team are currently £13,500 short of their target, which needs to be raised by April 16 if they are to attend the finals - they receive no funding from the government or UK Sport. The money will be used to support the team's preparations for the Deaflympics 2017, with training weekends and matches in the build-up to the competition, plus the cost involved in representing the male and female teams at the tournament. …

Do you have any soft spots for any other national teams? I went to the US game against Jamaica back on the 4th of this month, the game finished 1-1 but I attended as a natural. Since moving to the states I have developed a soft spot for the national team but I do also like Jamaica who are a shadow of their former selves (I guess even the US are).
