The legend in his home county and argumentative nature makes me think it could be Roy Carroll.

    I suspect that this is Frank Vincent, with his recent release.

    Yes, he has retired. He had a very successful career, though not without its lows. His presence would divide opinions until you saw him play. Most of the clubs he had stints with would call him a lege

    @CliftonMagpie, you’ve provided so much detail that my brain is doing the cha-cha! @super_ram, I am loving it. If you could see me right now, you’d wonder why my tash is doing the tango. ????

By intentionally including the words 'county' and 'argumentative' in my statement, I aimed to throw people off and add an element of confusion. However, I want to clarify that the answer is not Roy Carroll. :D

This person has over seven times the number of appearances that Roy Carroll made for Notts County and also played for Lincoln City. After his playing days, he remained in Nottingham and became a landlord.

Then it can only be Albert Ironmonger as he had two footballing brothers and made around 600 appearances for us.

Note to  self always read the question carefully,I thought Bart was too easy.

Is it possible that the person in question is Jeff Astle?

My responses ended up duplicated?

This ex magpie was known for his impressive skills as a midfielder, and he helped x win the x Cup in 19xx. After retiring from professional football, he briefly came out of retirement to play for a non-league side.

Ex Magpie from possibly Long Eaton?

And helped Aston Villa win the League Cup in 1996?

Eventually came out of retirement to play for a Nottinghamshire non league side that bears the same name as a WWII beach evacuation site?

Could it be Drapes?

I was initially thinking between him and Peter Reid, but there was nothing that impressive about Reidy's displays, although he did help us beat Forest in 94.

My guess would be Phil Turner. I know it’ll be a player before my time, we’ve only recently had skilful midfielders and the ones before that never won any silverware!

I don’t know if he won any cups for a previous club but he came out of retirement after 8 years to come on as a sub for Grantham Town. That is incredibly brief!

@AmericanPie, Super Ram, @JIMBO, fozzy and @menzinho,

Thank you all for taking part in this past round. A special congratulations to fozzy for guessing the correct answer - Mark Draper! Great job!

Round Four:

Clue:
This former footballer signed for a total of 10 clubs before retiring in the 2000s. Although he started his career with The Potters, he also played for a Town for over 50 games and a United for just under 50 games.

Points Table

@Fozzy - 2
@super_ram - 1

Can you clarify if he started his career at Stoke City, i.e came through their academy or if he began his career having signed for them from elsewhere to start?

I can only think of one player who it may be, but won’t guess his name yet.

Did he only play a couple of handfuls of games for Notts?

The player in question is not Chris Iwelumo. From what I understand, he started his professional career at Stoke City, although his youth football is unknown. This would suggest that he began his career at Stoke City. He played just more than a handful of games for Notts County during his time with the team.

I shall step back a little to see if anyone else can guess him, but I’ve got a strong feeling I may know who he is if I have got his position correct.
