The old games, when pitches didn't look fancy and resembled more of a farmer's field, are something today's players don't realise how fortunate they are to have avoided. Fortunately, these risky situations are now a thing of the past, with less chance of serious injuries caused by the conditions.

How in the world could games be played on that? I can't imagine watching a game with the conditions so bad.

In the 90s I remember watching cup games and old First Division matches where the pitch wasn't the best.

@super_ram would tell me it's nothing compared to matches he had seen. I have seen clips of bad condiitons but I don't recall watching footage of a football match where it's literally all puddles of water and grass. Thank god things have improved since then.

how did anyone score? it looks hard to play with those conditions.

if it was heavily raining again can you imagine the danger and difficult it would have. would a keeper even dive to save the ball?

And @liampie players didn't seem to get so many injuries as they do now. I remember them playing with a leather ball too, that got about 3 to 4 times heavier in the mud and wet.

It was like that from November onwards 50 years or so ago.

Nowadays, health and safety wouldn’t let games like that happen. When the video starts, it seems like the field has just been ploughed. It’s very risky, but things were different back then. Did anyone spot the grass?

Can you imagine todays multi million pound Premiership players trying to play on that pitch. 

Some players love to play footy in the mud.

i am surprised tbh, i would have thought it would be a big problem.

The poor conditions are not great to watch at home. Sky would never want these conditions. Some games were not bad to watch live, but it's a good thing that you no longer see games like this.
