The Real Tony Hateley

Sad news today, as Tony Hateley passed away, ironically in Preston, at the age of 72. One of the greatest players in the history of Notts County and a man who won many plaudits from many fans of many other clubs. I wasn't lucky enough to see him play, but by all accounts he was a true great.

R.I.P Tony Hateley. Thoughts go out to his family and friends right now

This quite bizarre we were only having a discussion about TH in the chatroom today. RIP TH

whilst I agree it shouldn't pass by unannounced, I think a minutes applauds would be more adapt

Today's result becomes meaningless. We have lost a legend, a true Notts County giant.

This is a very sad day for our Club, very sad indeed.

Big Tone was my first Notts hero and he will always be soaring above Meadow Lane, powering a header goalwards.

This is tragic news, I am mortified. Nothing else matters to me tonight, this is terribly sad.

Notts have been blessed with some great players over the years, but TH was one of the best. As Pies4U said above...the words soaring above the Lane to head like a bullet...

Not many nowadays that can score like he did.

I think a minutes applause is a great idea.

What an absolute legend! Very nice fella also, his son is a lot like his dad.

My condolences to his family.

R.I.P

Tony will never be forgotten, its a shame that the majority of new outlets forgot about his time with us but at least he received some sort of fitting tribute.
