So Long Farewell Auf Wiedersehen Good Bye. Gary Lineker is Leaving BBC Match Of The Day!! HOORAY!! It's a Shame he's Not Taking they Rest of his Cohorts with Him. I Enjoyed  it when for some Reason all the BBC Pundits didn't show up that Week and we got to see just the Football. MOTD Hasn't been the Same Since Alan Hansen Left.

I Can't Stand Lineker (and I Know I'm Not The Only One)

He'll possibly finish up on Sky sports, Gillette Soccer Saturday, & possibly take his mates with him.

@Wheelbarrow repair man I don’t understand your vitriolic post about Lineker, I personally will be sad to see him go he’s a good broadcaster I think Match of the Day will be poorer once he’s gone.

It seems you feel very strongly but I don’t think your language (although starred out) is befitting a family forum.

While he strikes me as someone who would benefit from stepping away from social media, he's good at his job and will be missed. Curious to see what he does next, although now he's in his 60s he could just be taking a step back.

I guessed you're not his greatest fan @Wheelbarrow repair man, but would you mind toning that last comment down? It's a tad aggressive for this board.

Lineker was a great footballer & he's good at his job talking football.

I've always enjoyed match of the day and he'll be missed when he goes.

I'm sure he'll be snapped up by a rival TV company & I would welcome that.

But his remarks on other than football I don't care for.

From the Guardian “The one thing I do regret is that it was a fallout between me and the BBC and it should have been a fallout between the BBC and the Daily Mail,” he said.

Former England striker will relinquish role at the end of the 2024-25 season, but will stay at BBC until 2026

I stood by Lineker in the words he posted on Twitter

For MOTD, Mark Chapman likely to replace Lineker which will be a good choice. I can see Charlie Slater getting his break with MOTD2?

Why And Who has interfered with My Original Comment? Part of it As been Deleted. By What Right has anyone Censored My Words? I Thought this Platform Allowed Free Speech?  Rest Assured Who Ever You Are I Shall Take This Up With @Chris And Argue My Case.

What's all this? Four Mods piling in on this thread.

@Wheelbarrow repair man is just expressing his opinion & he starred out any hurty words.

That's called self moderation guys. If a mod has posted and involved themselves in a thread, they shouldn't be moderating on it.

That should be left to an administrator in my opinion.

And how about all four of you congratulating WBRM for achieving his Grand Master badge?

@Robbie I believe the swear words are automatically starred out but I may be wrong. Moderators are there to moderate that is what they have been asked to do irrespective of whether they are involved in the thread or not.

The moderators have discussed the offending post and agreed it’s not acceptable, I believe @Wheelbarrow repair man has been sent a personal message to explain the decision, it’s no big deal let’s move on there’s no need for a fuss, it’s not about the opinion expressed it’s about inappropriate language.

@Wheelbarrow repair man I think Chris isn’t well at present and I’m sure he will support the mods as he trusts them that’s why they were appointed.

Match of the Day won't be the same, the original line-up was amazing and whilst I found Alan Hansen at times biased. It was enjoyable seeing their thoughts, and the later inclusion of Alan Shearer was a good call. Despite liking Ian Wright, I never did take to him on MOTD.

In recent years, I have become tired of Gary Lineker - however, he does seem to be targeted by complainers who are never happy.

I don't believe he should be earning as much as what has been reported, I really think that is wrong but someone else will pay it. I think the BBC in general makes poor choices, but I do think it's time for him to move on. I want to watch MOTD for the highlights, and debates. Not for what it is currently being made into.

Let's please focus on the discussion, so that we can maintain the point of sharing the news.

Once Mr Lineker has gone, I think that Match of the Day need to concentrate on the action rather than the pundetry.

M of TD should maybe concentrate on one match & the rest just brief highlights.

Less analysis. More action.

I don’t watch MOTD that often nowadays, but I’ve always thought of Lineker to be a poor presenter, just too wooden for my liking and especially when you compare him to his predecessor Des Lynam who was great at his job of presenting and letting the pundits do theirs.

I personally hope they go back to that method of having professional presenters, but they probably won’t.

I havent really watched MoTD for donkeys years. Though I might have a quick look see on a Sunday morning when it's being repeated. Lineker is a class presenter though the BBC need to clamp down on the vast salaries paid to news presenters, Laura Kuenssberg, etc. I would have liked Gary to have stayed on with a reduced salary to send a signal that the Corporation isn't being taken for a ride.

Mark Chapman should take over IMHO with Charlie Slater for MoTD2
