November 21, 2024Nov 21 #2 Pedro will always be an icon to Notts fans. If I close my eyes I can still see him doing his stuff on the meadow lane turf. He was also a great servant of Notts. I don't think you'll ever see many more players spend almost all their professional footballing life at one club anymore. It's just not the in thing nowadays. If a player looks like he has the talent to go further, or even if he doesn't, they are all snapped up in a matter of time because we are in the age of the football agent,
November 26, 2024Nov 26 #3 the clips and videos i have seen of him playing for us he looked one hell of a player, who was skilful and fast. its good to see the club paying respect and mentioning something that younger fans might not be aware about.
December 1, 2024Dec 1 #4 What an honour and historic moment. Pedro looked like a classy player and although he was well before my time, I respect and admire what he did for Notts County. I am pleased the club remembered to do this, as it reminds fans of his legacy which is important beyond the colour of his skin.
December 3, 2024Dec 3 #5 Over the years, I have heard many stories about Pedro Richards. He was a brilliant player, and a very good signing for Notts. At the time it wouldn't have been easy to be accepted in football due to the colour of his skin, but I am pleased that Notts offered him a home, which our fans took to him. Having seen various documentaries about racism in football, it makes me feel prouder of Notts and Pedro's achievements. We all bleed the same colour, but the fact that we were such an accepting club (which was only right). It makes this achievement something more than just a memory. We have been fortunate to have exceptional players in our history, such as Tristan Benjamin and Justin Fashanu. Pedro paved the way, and whilst there might have been some in the fan base back then less accepting, the majority took to the players for their ability and personality. It's a shame that Justin Fashanu's time at Notts tends to be overlooked, because I do recall seeing an interview where he spoke highly of the club for saving his career.
December 5, 2024Dec 5 #6 Brilliant player, even though I never witnessed his magic, I can appreciate what he did for the club. I am sure most fans who did see him play would have him at his best now and in the current team. I am also pleased to see Notts pay respect and tribute to Pedro Richards. It's a shame his son Jordan didn't work out for us.
December 11, 2024Dec 11 Author #7 It's always a pity Pedro left #Notts on 399 appearances! @Chris "Pedro paved the way, and whilst there might have been some in the fan base back then less accepting, the majority took to the players for their ability and personality." The following season, there was a player Lloyd Richards hailing from Jamaica, who played for Notts. A descendant from him was in the Notts youth team not so long ago, also named Jordan or Jordon ? His son did play for us, you are right about that. Jordan Richards (footballer, born 1997) - Wikipedia EN.WIKIPEDIA.ORG
December 11, 2024Dec 11 Author #10 To avoid confusion @Chris, I was particularly referring to, I think a descendent from Lloyd Richards, also named Jordon or Jordan...He was in the Notts youth team maybe 6 or 7 years ago... Anyone remember him?
