Sad to see it but Bolton look set to go out of business they have a winding up petition against them for unpaid taxes of 600,000 but also owe 172.9 Million I can't see any club raising that amount of funds in the football league 

Bolton will be fine. There owner has written the 180m off.
My guess is someones waiting for them to go into admin and buy them on the cheap and build from league 1.

Hopefully they will because the debt appears to have risen over 200m, if someone doesn't purchase the club and get the debts in order things will turn disastrous for them.

Administration can really impact a business.

No-one's asking them to cough up their total debt, just the 600k subject to the winding up order. We're in a similar position with Ray Trew - technically we might owe loads of money to him, but he knows the club is never going to pay it back. They'll be fine. Incredible mismanagement to spend all that money and still end up bottom of the Championship though.

I believe it's from their Premiership days myself, Big Sam supposedly paid high fee's to agents (among other things).

The promise land doesn't sound very inviting when you look at things.

It was the early 90s, I think you may be right.

If they do not sort this out, they could be worse off than Portsmouth. Look how long its taken them to get sorted! Bolton have a good following but not that loyal.

why have they not been docked points or punished? should they not tie in the ffp into this to prevent it from happening?

i just dont see how you can run debts of this amount up.

@liampie - Docking points punishes the fans and when in debt, there's not many ways to punish the owners - having to sell the club is punishment enough but I do agree that more should and can be done to prevent overspending.

Seriously,how come Bolton have been allowed to amass such a debt? I thought ffp was supposed to stop this happening.Ok it's £600,000 at the moment but other vultures will also be hovering around and wages need paying too and not just to the overpaid players.

To me if you break FFP you should be straight away docked 10 points before you're first game and teams might take it more seriously.

If that fails dock 20 points 

Absolute Radio just said during their newsreel that Bolton are preparing to be wounded up, as of the 22nd they are supposed to pay and a club official doesn't believe they will have the money.

Very sad if it does happen.

Eddie Davies has apparently ploughed approximately 170 million into the club through his company Moonshift Investments. I am sure Administration is far more a likely option if it ever came to that, than liquidation.

It's very rare that a club goes out of business, especially one as big as Bolton.  As I understand it there are time limits on when they can go into administration regarding points deductions.  The best thing they could do is take the -12 points this season and try to rebuild from League 1 next time around.  As usual, it's the poor old supporter who suffers the most.

I read earlier that they had failed to pay their staff members, which must be hard on the employees.
