No i wasn't so much talking about that its more his approach to doing deals, he starts by saying what can you do for us not how can we lay down for you like our politicians.

@Northants PieI see where you are coming from, but it's all about negotiating position...USA can dictate terms. the reality is that the EU will dictate terms to the UK, economic facts of life

I think Brexit will go down as the biggest farce in British political history.  It was sheer stupidity to ask the general public to vote on an issue as complicated as this.  The campaign from both sides was based on outright lies and scare stories, and the best liars managed to gain a small majority.   Their top lie of "let's give the £350 million we'll save to the NHS" might well have been enough to swing the vote on its own.  The problem is that nobody had a clue what leaving the EU actually meant.  The worrying thing is that two years down the line still nobody has a clue, including the negotiating team!  What we are left with is a government where most of the big names are more concerned with their future career prospects than working on a good deal, and the opposition parties are more concerned with bringing down the government than working on a good deal.  That means the average man and woman in the street is likely to be worse off.  This is a vote that never should have happened, but now it has future generations will have to live with the consequences.

When the original vote took place why wasn't a clear majority of,say 60/40 or 70/30 for or against  put in place.What fun we could all have for years to come while  revotes took place....NOT

I try to stay clear of politics myself, it's just too strong minded and usually driven by fiction on both sides of the argument.

As my dad says @Fozzy stick to the other topics.

@Fozzy Think people should be allowed to discuss it, there's room for it but people need to avoid going all OTT.

I stick with the fun things myself.

Absolutely spot on @Elite_pie well said, how can the man in the street possibly hope to know enough about all the complicated issues involved in being a member of the EU it’s ludicrous, we elect governments to govern not pass the buck to Joe Public.

@Fozzy I think it is ok to talk politics as long as the debate is calm and reasoned and people respect others points of view whilst debating, which on this forum is usually the case. I don’t think PoN should be purely about Notts County or indeed football in general that’s why there is a section called “Broken Wheelbarrow” a place to chat about other things in life’s rich tapestry. If I see a topic which doesn’t interest me I just scroll on.

Superb answer @Elite_pie This sums up the whole farce from beginning to end. Especially the part about future generations having to pick up the pieces of the mess created by the whole thing. It was done on a whim by a PM that then bottled it when the result came back that he didn't want, leaving another PM in charge who is even more clueless than he was!

The past two weeks have brought it sharply into focus for many. The options now seem to be deal or no deal! Maybe Noel E should be in charge of ringing the EU to see what their latest offer is!

I immediately got German citizenship to cover my backside. It's worth pointing out that the political situation this side of the Channel isn't exactly rosy either, though. Brexit is a stupid idea and a complete mess, there's no question about that at all. I'm not exactly enamoured with the EU either, which is a project led by Thatcherites. I lived in Coventry when they shut the Peugeot plant down - the EU gave Peugeot a grant to relocate to Slovakia! And then the Lib Dems and co. wonder why their claims about jobs fall on deaf ears.

On the plus side of it all, when the UK referendum result was announced the price of Weetabix in Germany came down. I worked out that if I buy 1000 boxes of Weetabix, my German citizenship will pay for itself!

Re the thread: I don't see a problem with this as long as everyone stays civil. But the minute the handbags start flying is the minute the mods put their jackboots on
