Can this Remoaner be a Prime Minister that Labour Brexiteers can trust? I say no way Jose.

I am sorry @Robbie What has this got to do with on a Brexit thread?

And by the way Robbie, GBP EUR has fallen from 1.31 to 1.18 from the referendum years. Weakening UK's purchasing power and increasing inflationary pressures.

I think Brexit will go down as the biggest farce in British political history.  It was sheer stupidity to ask the general public to vote on an issue as complicated as this.  The campaign from both sid

Play nicely please - I know better than most how emotive this is, but let's not get personal.

  • its not worth falling out over, please can you both just agree to disagree. its not worth it. you are both such great members of the site, you both have your stances and its good to see people discuss

£40 billion a year lost due to Brexit... A price worth paying Robbie? NO IT ISN'T. That money could have gone towards more NHS GP's, dentists, hospitals, rebuilding schools with RAAC problems, the police, HS2 in full, social housing, helping the homeless, etc. All good Labour principles for a fairer society. What isn't there not to like? Brexit has been like imposing economic sanctions on the UK by itself

where is the money...lost to Brexit

A Brexit valentine - more good news to celebrate. Wages up again, employment up again and Brexit carries on working.

That the Party of Remain for you.

Another ludicrous policy by the EU Remain Party.

If you read the article  @Robbie   ( remember most of Welsh farming is hill, not necessarily arable agriculture on flatter lands.... so when it says "if" it's a Steve Barclay scare story..... Accuracy is important.

"Labour’s Shadow Environment Secretary Steve Reed MP said: ‘This Conservative Government has wrecked British farming. They put up trade barriers that blocked British food exports and let energy bills soar out of control, crippling producers and putting thousands out of business.

‘Labour will give farmers their future back. We will tear down export barriers by seeking a veterinary agreement with the EU, boost jobs by buying more food for hospitals and prisons locally, and cut energy bills by producing clean energy right here in the UK.’

I couldn't give a monkey's what Steve Reed MP has to say or what any other MP in the "EU Remain Party" says.

Labour are in free fall with Starmer flip flopping all over the place. He said we've rid the Labour Party of antisemitism. Look how that worked out for him.

He's clinging onto that wall by his fingertips and we all know what happened when "Humpty" fell off.

Corbyn is thinking he can make a comeback and we all know what that means for our Country.

Not a Brexit item @Robbie :"Corbyn is thinking he can make a comeback"... he is still suspended from Labour... or did you miss that?????

It's a Brexit Item because if Labour get in that will affect Brexit.

Again,, this is not really Brexit related. Who funds the mysterious Gully Foyle...Tufton Street libertarian think tanks of the far right, Russia??? They are masking themselves as "patriotic" but they are not.

5,500 presumably highly paid financial jobs lost to Paris since Brexit. Just think of the tax income the UK has lost needlessly

and losing green credentials as migrant farm workers now come in from Asia...is that a Brexit "win"?

Why one should never trust the Express, for news sources

https://www.express.co.uk/news/politics/1835008/Kemi-Badenoch-Florida-trade-deal-brexit

NOT a trade deal..... only a Memo of Understanding which is really worthless on trade

@Piethagoram Untrustworthy papers as follows, the Guardian, the Mirror, the independent  (that's not independent at all), the European, & the Morning Star

Then there's the TV news that is untrustworthy as follows, SlyNews, BBC News, Channel 4 News, ITV News, Channel 5 News, CNN & Euro News.

Facts hurting @Robbie ?  So can you explain why is Florida a" trade deal" as described , that benefits the UK? I will wait

Why don't you explain @Piethagoram why antisemitism is still rampant in the EU rejoin Labour party you love so much?

How could you support such a party like that?

Since when has antisemitism been part of Brexit thread?

But I always try to respond:

Meanwhile

and your happy to post tweets from Gully Foyle, Jefferson Mfg, et al...all hiding behind Tufton Street, American neo liberals, Russia.... who don't have the UK at heart

So please answer my questions now

@Piethagoram That's your opinion, I don't agree with your opinion,  nor will any of my fellow Brexiteers.

I don't support the Tories, they are Labour Party pink under Sunak, and have too many Remainers in their ranks.

You didn't answer my question about rife Labour antisemitism because it's awkward and embarrassing for you isn't it.

Anything to do with British  current affairs now is to do with Brexit UK. Do you find that uncomfortable to deal with?

And you talk about a fairer society under Labour. Labour have had 124 years to put in place a fairer society. They've failed miserably because they cannot ever deliver on that. Its just a slogan. There is no such thing as a fairer society.

And Brexiteers cannot in all sincerity vote Labour. The EU loving Labour party simply don't have our interests at heart.

I don't want any EU law that hasn't been debated and passed at Westminster, that means all of them.

As for the ECHR. We should withdraw from the ECHR and have a more superior British Bill of Rights

All EU laws still in place should be repealed and replaced with superior British laws, that have been fully debated in both houses, and passed by our Parliament, not a foreign Parliament.

I did try to respond to your Labour antisemitic question and to also point out the Tory example too. If you wish to go further, I will point you to this

https://www.theguardian.com/politics/2020/jun/28/jewish-groups-and-mps-condemn-nigel-farage-for-antisemitic-dog-whistles

Perhaps we differ on definitions and conclusions of a "fairer society", because at the extreme it could be argued to encompass communism, socialism et al.

What I would point out that this list is a fair basis to start

What isn't there to dislike?

"All EU laws still in place should be repealed and replaced with superior British laws, that have been fully debated in both houses, and passed by our Parliament, not a foreign Parliament."

As regards EU law, it was voted on in the UK parliament in the Bill to formally enshrine all EU law. The laws must have been good because the Tories have hardly done anything to change it!

Furthermore, all Brexiteers talking about British standards seem to have overlooked, we accept EU standards now in the UK Parliament

https://www.bloomberg.com/news/articles/2023-07-31/uk-drops-bid-to-replace-europe-s-ce-quality-mark-post-brexit

"As for the ECHR. We should withdraw from the ECHR and have a more superior British Bill of Rights"...a far right trope. The ECHR was set up in the main by British lawyers, it is recognised as an international court and its enshrined into international laws at the United Nations. It's incorporated in the Good Friday Agreement, which respectfully, was democratically voted on in Northern Ireland.

Only Belarus and Russia have left the ECHR...so that tells you everything you need to know. You wish to be on the side of dictators?

I'm sure you said earlier in this thread some while back that UK law should over rule international law? That is an untenable situation to be in. United Nations has been formed out of wars / conflicts.

For the average man in the street, Brexit has been a disaster, pushing costs up, environmental standards down, loss of personal freedoms, exports to EU suffering with mountains of paperwork, the cost of which can make our exports uncompetitive. Exporting of jobs to the EU is another. Don't get me on securing our borders, the loss of Europol database, we don't know who is entering the country with criminal / murderous records. £400bn annual tax revenues lost, that could be used to support essential public services. I've said before, Brexit toxic culture has seen very good EU qualified medical staff leave the UK and not be replaced. How's that for the average guy having to wait 2 weeks for a GP or even to find a NHS dentist?

So you see, the average man is so much worse off...and brexiteers still cant point to any visible benefit to "this average man". The Brexit ideology cannot answer real world problems and the consequences that come with that.

I am truly sorry if you don't see it my way. Brexit has been a disaster.

The postings of Tufton Street, American neo liberal think tanks etc are all about protection of UK's own tax havens. Why do they deserve to be protected? We the average citizen, end up paying more tax
