  1. Thanks to everyone who's predicted so far, we've got a decent mob together. To the rest of you - you've got until 3pm tomorrow (Saturday) to take part in the first round! Who fancies a go? Everyone is welcome! @Dripsey3, @gtownjohnno, @barnet11uk, @steve61, @Ohh Tommy Johnson, @menzinho, @yelobeli, @TheSkipper, @JIMBO
  2. This subject has cropped up many times during our history. I'm glad nothing came of it as it would have been utterly counterproductive for us. Imagine playing in the National League in a stadium that holds 40,000... I think the current arrangement is ideal actually. The club pays very little in rent, it gives us security and it stops an unscrupulous future owner attempting to get their hands on the land.
  3. Agree with all the above, he's passionate, knowledgeable and always a pleasure to listen to! He's also got an absolute peach of a job getting paid to watch Notts, and he knows it
  4. Blackburn Rovers 2-1 West Bromwich Albion Plymouth Argyle 1-1 Huddersfield Town Carlisle United 2-0 Fleetwood Town Shrewsbury Town 0-1 Cheltenham Town Morecambe 0-2 Walsall Tranmere Rovers 1-1 Barrow Aldershot 2-0 Oxford City Gateshead 0-1 Boreham Wood (joker)
  5. The days are getting shorter, tacky new shirts have been unveiled and fans up and down the country are putting their faith in a new 38-year-old workhorse who once had a good season for Burnley. It can only mean the main event is around the corner - the PON prediction league! At least two days before every matchday I will post a thread with eight matches to predict (or six if we're REALLY busy), two each from the Championship, League One, League Two and the Conference. You then reply with your predicted scores. The cut-off time for posting is kick-off (in this case 3pm). At the end of it all I'll then post a table with the current standings. Scoring system: 3 points for a correct score and 1 for a correct result. So if you predict Swindon to beat Walsall 2-1 and they do, you get 3 points; if Swindon win 1-0, you get 1 point. Each round you can also choose one match as your joker - any points you win for that match are then doubled. EVERYONE is welcome to take part! Just post your predictions underneath, and remember to assign a joker. And if you have any difficulty, just drop me a line. Good luck! Blackburn Rovers v West Bromwich Albion Plymouth Argyle v Huddersfield Town Carlisle United v Fleetwood Town Shrewsbury Town v Cheltenham Town Morecambe v Walsall Tranmere Rovers v Barrow Aldershot v Oxford City Gateshead v Boreham Wood
  6. @TheSkipper, the audio subscription was available on it last season, as there wasn't any iFollow video option. It was probably a bit pointless for fans living in the UK. I agree! Along with exiles like me, there are a number of Juve fans who are interested in our fortunes. I can imagine a few of them would be up for it too, or at least individual games.
  7. I'm just watching the England match now, they scored an absolutely belting goal that would have graced any game. World class finish. Then the ref disallowed it. Our number 2 Bronze was clearly offside when the cross was made. An England player then headed it back, at which point Bronze was clearly onside again. Bronze then intervened in play, winning the loose ball and passing to the "goalscorer". The ref disallowed it. I don't doubt that this was the right decision by the letter of the law, the situation was clear and obviously the ref knows the rules better than I do. But I find this part of the offside rule perplexing - when she first touched the ball, Bronze was behind several other England players and had in no way gained an advantage from having been in an offside position several seconds before. But whatever, we're winning.
  8. It also motivated me to cancel a couple of things I wasn't using @menzinho, so I'll actually save money ???? The audio pass is just commentary plus match highlights. I think full match replays are on there sometimes too. BBC radio is available abroad, but the commentary on BBC Sounds cuts out for "licensing reasons" at kick off time. Apparently there's a way to listen via the website though. Or the usual way if you're in the UK, of course.
  9. It's fun for you lot, but for me "accidentally" deleting your points managing the prediction league is a solemn duty.
  10. England v China tomorrow, a draw will be enough to win the group and play (I think) Nigeria in the next round. I haven't seen any games yet, but I'll play it on my second screen tomorrow
  11. Great team photo! Time for a new wallpaper To be fair, Notts do always put out a team photo. Some clubs don't bother at all now, which I find a real shame. It's part of the build-up to a new season!
  12. I haven't seen the club put out anything about this, so I thought I'd bang the drum a bit. As Notts are back in the Proper Leagues, iFollow video passes are back too. UK-based fans can buy video match passes for matches not kicking off at 3pm on a Saturday. For exiles like me, the service is a godsend - we can buy match passes for all games, or a full season pass for €166. That's slightly cheaper than the National League stream, which cost €80 for half a season and turned out to be pretty good value. So if you're based abroad like me, it might be a good idea to have a look: https://www.nottscountyfc.co.uk/ifollow/subscribe/
  13. I've just read a nice preview of the coming L2 season in the Graun. They've put us among the automatic promotion contenders. Not too many surprises, but nice to see anyway. https://www.theguardian.com/football/2023/jul/31/league-two-preview-wrexham-stockport-notts-county (when the message asking you to register appears, just click "I'll do it later" - you can then read the full article)
  14. Teams chartering flights to away games has become a regular occurrence and really needs to be stamped out. In a country as small as ours there's no justification for it, especially as the larger clubs can afford to put the team in a hotel overnight. Wrexham have raised eyebrows because of their status, but this is pretty much the norm higher up the leagues. It doesn't seem to be a thing in Germany at all, I've seen several team buses on the motorway here. And the distances covered are much greater too.
  15. Good stuff! No one should feel like it's a solemn obligation to take part every round, it's just for fun so you can dip in and out as you please if that works better. But obviously, the more often you take part, the better chance you'll have of a good placing ???? @JIMBO I post the fixtures at least two days in advance, and I do reminders here and sometimes on Facebook too. You can also follow the Prediction League subforum so you get alerted when fixtures are posted. But it shouldn't be too hard to remember this season - if Notts are playing, there'll probably be a prediction league round as well. I'm planning to post the first fixtures on Wednesday.
  16. They're unbeaten and level on points with first place though! Just finished 1-1, sounds like we played well and dominated possession. A good dress rehearsal. Slightly concerned about the absence of Langstaff, maybe it'll be mentioned in the post-match interview.
  17. Hi everyone. Next Saturday, the real football starts again. But more importantly, so does the PON prediction league! For the uninitiated, every matchday I post eight (or six) fixtures, everyone predicts the results and I post the scores. And at the end of the season, the champion is crowned. This is usually @ARLukomski, but I've decided I'm going to win it this time. I've started this thread to work out how many people would be interested in taking part this season. And I have a question too: when we decided to taste the delights of the Vauxhall Conference in 2019, we switched from six to eight fixtures to accommodate the NL. Should we revert to six now that adventure is behind us? (This is a non-binding referendum and might also depend on how many people take part.) So who's in? ????
  18. This is an emotive debate that has been blown out of all proportion and often excludes the very people who are actually involved. Over the last 100-odd years, a grand total of one trans woman has taken part in the Olympics. She finished last. As for Quinn, a few people need to read up on them - they were born a woman and are evidently not transitioning medically (as testosterone would be deemed performance enhancing). Physically they're still female, so there's no obvious reason to exclude them. But by the same token, I don't really see why this is groundbreaking. Sports are full of people with a physical advantage in one way or another, so the question of what would constitute an unfair physical advantage and what would fall within the norm is a complex one. Sports associations generally lack the expertise to judge this on a case-by-case basis. Generally, many trans women do retain an advantage with height and skeletal structure. However, trans people need to be able to participate in sports on an amateur level at least, and any ban on them taking part in sports in school (!) would simply be cruel and vindictive.
  19. This is a good read! I don't think anyone can doubt how dedicated the team behind the scenes is, we see the results for ourselves on the pitch. Got to admit the subheading irked me a bit as we really shouldn't be anywhere near the relegation spots, but that's usually added in by a sub editor and not the author.
  20. Fun fact: our last home game in the League was against Grimsby, we won 1-0. Hoping for a similar result but a better outcome to the season this time! I was there then but I won't be this time. Get yourselves down there!
  21. Welcome on board @JustLikeJuve! That's a name I remember from somewhere ????
  22. When I heard about it I thought it was bizarre and hilarious, but not now. It's a public death threat, and that carries a prison sentence. We can't just have anybody accusing people of stuff and calling for vigilante action. If they've got any information, they should go to the police. Otherwise, this is probably a personal grudge and harassment.
  23. It's just a bit of speculation really. Debrah does sound like the kind of player we'd go for and would give us more options at the back, I don't remember him from last season though. We'd also face stiff competition to get him. Pearson rings a bell somewhere, but we've already got Palmer, Bostock, JOB, Bajrami and Crowley in the middle so I doubt there's anything in it.
  24. Nail on head @Super_Danny_Allsopp. It shows a complete disregard for Notts fans and will obviously impact the away attendance. Why were they allowed to move this game against our will?
  25. He might not have been everyone's cup of tea, but I thought he was brilliant. I took in most of my Notts football via the radio, and he always gave a very good idea of what was happening on the pitch. It went a bit wobbly at the goals, but that was part of the charm! Listening to him and Stallard was entertaining in and of itself, I'd have happily listened to them even if I weren't a Notts fan. So now we have to find another C Slater to do our commentary! But life moves on. Thanks for the memories Charlie and the best of luck in the future!
