  2. Wrexham have finished second multiple times (once on 98 points) and are on their way up. If we keep banging on the door, we will make it in the end. One comforting thought is that we could be a lot worse next season and still win the league I also follow a team in Germany that played in a league with NO automatic promotion, only a promotion play-off. They lost in that play-off three times in a row, twice after winning the league, once on penalties. The first season after automatic promotion was introduced, they finally got their reward. We will too. We are getting it right and I firmly believe we will make it. Possibly even in May - we have to win two games. That takes me onto my next point. I am so drained after Monday and I'm not sure I can face a play-off final (if we make it). For me personally this will be the seventh consecutive season that has ended in a play-off campaign and I'm genuinely not sure I can hack it.
  3. I can see the logic in that actually. LW wanted us to have a stronger midfield to combat the hosts' physical game, and I'd have made the same calls as him to be honest. But in the first half in particular, we had a lot of difficulty making the ball stick in the opposition's half. Jones is good at holding onto the ball and recycling it well, and we looked better once he came on. He's a very versatile player and would be a crucial signing if we can keep him.
  4. Not sure what's going to happen this summer. Will he stay or will he go? STAY: - He's got two years of a three-year contract remaining, so the club isn't under pressure to sell. - He will come with a hefty price tag. Only one League Two team will be able to afford it, and they tend to do their shopping in higher divisions. And League One and the Championship are a bit of a jump for a player just finishing his first NL season. We've just seen him struggle against L1-quality defenders - would he be too much of an expensive risk for clubs from that division? - He knows the club and the manager and he's got a guaranteed starting spot with us. The conditions are in place for him to flourish with us. - Hopefully he'll have the chance to step up into League Two and further his career with us. - We're the greatest club in the world and he had Notts County quilt covers as a kid (might not be true). GO: - He's attracted nationwide attention as a prolific scorer with a scoring instinct. And strikers are always in demand. - Million-pound transfers are no rarity in the Championship and League One nowadays. A huge transfer fee for us wouldn't be all that much for a club that's recently played in the Premier League. - He's 26 and has spent virtually all his career in the National League North or the Northern Premier League. He's a latecomer to professional football and knows an offer from Middlesbrough would be a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity.
  5. Scott went for power, but the kick was unfortunately too predictable. I've seen people suggest he should leave the club - they need to give their heads a wobble. His goals per minutes record is outstanding, and if Langstaff leaves he'll probably be our main man next season. We need to build him up, not knock him down. To be honest I thought that Foster looked like a liability, he was clearly very ring-rusty and there were a couple of bad misjudgements that could have cost his team. Typical cheesy Hollywood twist with him emerging as their hero...
  6. The definition of the universe is everything that exists, so how can there be different ones? Surely "multiverse" is a contradiction in terms? My head hurts.
  7. Realistically Wrexham aren't going to lose two of their last four, but I don't want to see LW give up and make wholesale changes until it's mathematically certain - if they suffer a case of "after the lord mayor's show" and lose their next game, we could still take it to the wire. Rodders and Chicksen could maybe do with a test, while Jones, Vincent and Slocombe would benefit from more minutes.
  8. It was a bit like a cup game, Wrexham are just on a completely different level to the other teams in this league. Rodders and Langstaff struggled to get any time on the ball, and the home team had players with the nous to anticipate the little through-balls we play outside the box that otherwise result in chances. We often live dangerously by faffing around at the back and this time we were made to pay. What was Bajrami thinking with the backheel for their second? But despite all that, the second half was pretty wild and the Welshmen were lucky we let them off the hook with the tame penalty. They're a quality side, but with a bit more cleverness on our part they'd have been beatable.
  9. Birmingham City 2-1 Stoke City Coventry City 1-1 Watford Fleetwood Town 1-1 Bristol Rovers Port Vale 2-0 Oxford United Colchester United 0-2 Crewe Alexandra Tranmere Rovers 0-0 Swindon Town Bromley 2-0 Boreham Wood (joker) Wealdstone 1-1 Solihull Moors
  10. I thought he was a quality footballer, but he's turned into something of a journeyman. Didn't think he'd wind up playing in the Conference North and the Welsh Premier during the best years of his career.

  13. We need to do what we did in the first half of the game at Meadow Lane, keep the ball and impose our game on them. They can't bombard us with crosses and long throws if they can't get the ball off us! I can't deny that I'm nervous about us having an inexperienced keeper for this one, this game will be a very different proposition to the last two and he'll be a lot busier. But maybe having a penalty specialist won't be so bad If Rodders can walk, he will play. I think he was rested on Friday with a view to tomorrow. In Scott and Jones/Austin, we'll be able to bring real quality off the bench if we end up chasing the game.
  14. Wrexham are receiving a lot of coverage in the US, and people there are being fed a one-sided narrative about a two-horse race. This article is an attempt to rectify that a little bit. It's a good read, and Connel Rawlinson will be delighted to find out he's now our captain As @Chris says, there aren't many clubs out there with a story to tell that is as interesting or as downright bizarre as Notts. I've got mixed feelings about the US coverage of the National League to be honest. I think a lot of people over there who have "discovered" Wrexham would be better off focussing their interest on their local teams.
  15. Easter Monday and the clash of the titans is upon us. It's a day we've been feverishly anticipating for weeks now - round 41 of the PON prediction league! Send your predictions in by 3pm on Monday and remember your jokers! Birmingham City v Stoke City Coventry City v Watford Fleetwood Town v Bristol Rovers Port Vale v Oxford United Colchester United v Crewe Alexandra Tranmere Rovers v Swindon Town Bromley v Boreham Wood Wealdstone v Solihull Moors
  16. I will work out the points for this round later on, once I get my abacus out. In the meantime, round 41 should be live by the time you read this!
  17. That went pretty well for us, didn't it? Even watching the live stream, the tributes to Jason Turner were very visible and superbly done. On the pitch, the difference in quality was there for all to see, but that was to be expected. We should really have scored for - Langstaff could have had a hat trick today. But the best thing was Wrexham's result. If we follow this up with a win at their place, it's in our hands.
  18. This is Lenny. He is the Official Budgie of the PON Prediction League. Lenny is a little bit sad today because some of you haven't sent in your predictions yet. Send them in before 3pm tomorrow (Good Friday) and put the smile back on his budgie face! @Dripsey3, @gtownjohnno, @barnet11uk, @DonnyNotts, @cheeky~k8, @KB1862, @steve61
  19. I think Wealdstone are one of the few part-time teams in this league. They might be nothing special, but they are punching well above their weight and can no doubt give us a game if we're not on it. We just have to carry on doing our thing and hope for a good set of results to take us to Easter Monday.

  25. Whatever happens this season, we need to keep the summer changes to a minimum. A smattering of fresh faces keeps everyone on their toes, but we should avoid a situation where we're replacing six or seven first-team players. Looking at that list, I could imagine that O'Brien is considering hanging up his boots and I wouldn't be surprised if Vincent is looking at moving for more first team action. I'd offer all the others a contract. A couple might well receive an offer they can't refuse - Rodders clearly loves the club, but will certainly have offers and might be tempted by a League One club. Can imagine that Chicksen and Cameron have admirers too. That said, I don't think all of them will leave even if we don't go up.
