No, Big Sam is a dinosaur. Brentford are very much a possession side too, except that they "mix it up" especially in the opening minutes. I disagree with @Fan of Big Tone on his point...That type of football initially under Nolan got us relegated from the FL. Southgate has taken the national team to semi finals and finals in recent years. The continental influence on the "English" game has been significant. I have mentioned before on other threads, when Russia tried to boost the number of domestic players in their top league, by restricting foreign players, the overall quality of the league fell. The PL full of foreign coaching and playing talent is the "cash cow" of the football world. Perhaps, people are putting too much emphasis on the "coach" now. Football has moved on, it's the clubs overall coaching staff, from manager to head of recruitment, physical / strengthening coach..the overall "package" is now the most important, not just one man. One key point though, the richness of the Premier League clubs can afford to keep "young talent" until they are ready. Notts on the other hand, have found it difficult to transition players from youth team to 1st team as the financial funding gap has not been there, from ages 16 to say 19/20.

We agree to differ @Robbie If that was the case, clubs will be playing more English players as they would probably be cheaper. The one consequence of so many foreign players, the English talent has been cascaded down the leagues. In all my years of supporting Notts, the quality of EFL2 now is the highest its ever been!

Jim Ratcliffe companies have vigorous cost control measures. If the amounts of money for Fergie were true, then that releases a substantial amount towards the playing budget then.
