  1. I'm looking forward to this one. I do hope that fitness permitting Martin Paterson will pick the same starting eleven & the same substitutes that he selected against Crawley. If Dennis is fit then it would still be a good idea to play with one striker with either Dennis playing behind Jatta in the same side or Dennis starting on the bench. My preference would be Dennis on the bench. I know that putting Dennis on the substitutes bench might be controversial, but he is returning from injury & I also think the side that played against Crawley picks itself. Crewe are going to want to play a passing game so it will suit Notts to employ a high press & try to win the ball as soon as possible, & try to hit Crewe on the break & down the flanks. I'd stick with Tsaroula & Jodi on the wings with Grant & Iorpenda behind Jatta. Then in the 2nd half we will have the option of bringing on super subs Luker & Hall to do some damage to the tiring Crewe rearguard. I'm hoping that a revitalised Notts can get a win against one of their closest rivals & make another statement regarding their promotion credentials.
  2. At Lunch Notts are 100 for 2 with Hameed 54 n/o & Clarke 17 n/o
  3. One of the greatest managers in football, Bob Paisley said “ it is not about the long ball or the short ball it’s about the right ball in the moment” The elements of surprise in football is paramount. Keeping your opponents guessing is one of the best tactics a team can deploy. An opponent wants a team to be predictable in their style of play because they can plan & set up their team to counteract. I love the Notts style of play. It has given them great reward over recent years, but going direct occasionally during a match can reap huge rewards. Employing the long throw can cause mayhem in an oppositions defense & free kicks and corners can also cause lots of trouble for opponents. We've seen Notts opponents employ these very tactics at Meadow Lane with varying degrees of success. "Playing the right ball in the moment" is key to success on a football field.
  4. BBC SportSam Allardyce: Is modern football adopting Big Sam's play...Former Bolton and Newcastle manager Sam Allardyce speaks to BBC Sport about whether modern football is adopting the playbook he was enacting more than 20 years ago.
  5. Notts v Warwickshire.Day 2.3 bonus points already in the bag. Attention now switches to the Notts batsmen. Can they score 300 or more runs today that would earn a further 2 bonus points which would clinch the County Championship?

  11. End of a very good first days play for Notts Warwickshire 258 all out.Hutton takes 4 & Abbas 3 wickets for Notts, as they secure 3 bonus points.
  12. I do wish him luck in his new job. It's nice to see footballers switch to other careers and make a success of it.
  13. I agree with @theAnticlough that Notts will have to replace the vast majority of the squad over a period of time to just aim for a middle table side then they will have to push on again to build a side capable of challenging for promotion. There is a big divide opening up between League one and two. The current Notts players that could transition would be Alassana Jatta, Lewis Macari, Matty Platt, Jodi Jones & maybe Rod McDonald & Matt Palmer, but I'm struggling to think of anyone else other than the current loan players, Once Notts get promoted I think the summer period would see plenty of incomings and outgoings, even so, the way that Notts tend to spend their money, it is going to be probably a four to five year project before Notts would be ready to challenge for promotion to the Championship.
  14. A shortened afternoon session but a good session for Notts. They have taken a further four wickets. At Tea Warwickshire are 138 for 5.
  15. The first session as been shortened by drizzle & rain.An early lunch has been taken. Warwickshire are 70 for 1
  16. I'm worried too @True Magpie if one or both of our two main strikers sustained an injury or got suspended. It would leave Notts very short of striking power. The positive thing on Saturday were Luker & Hall's performance in the 2nd half when they came on as substitutes, Luker creating three goals & Hall scoring two. But I do believe that Martin Paterson needs to be able to field an alternative recognised striker to replace Jatta or Dennis off the bench when required. I still believe that Traoré & Jarvis shouldn't be ruled out completely from coming good in the games ahead. I think that putting one of them on the bench, could still be a good move.
  17. The match is underway.Notts have won the toss and opted to bowl first.
