Fact of the day #Notts
@Robbie While there is No denying Stuart Maynard as made Rapid Strides in his full time Head Coach Role, there are still problems he hasn't come up against, however whatever problems come his way I am confident he will overcome them. On present form the Magpies should at least make the Playoffs, it as been quoted by Notts Fans on Youtube and other platforms, League 2 doesn't appear to be as Strong as it was last season. Is it weaker? Hard to say there are different Teams to play and different surfaces for the Notts players to play on, so there are Challengers to be risen to and conquered. And if Notts do gain Promotion to League 1 either automatic or via the Playoffs then the Club will have to fight off interest from Clubs higher up the Leagues for their Best Players and That is another Problem SM will have to face, a difficult one should the Club wish to sell those players.

This day in 1964
Realistically there is only one James Bond, and in my Opinion it was Sean Connery. I don't think any of the other Actors who have played the part even came close. As it's said Sean Connery is James Bond. However my Favourite Bond Movie is Timothy Dalton's second outing as 007. A License To Kill. It was a Very Dark Type of Film compared to Bond's other outings and much more serious than the more light hearted and slightly more comedic approach of Roger Moore when he played the part.

Fact of the day #Notts
BetFred Notts County are unbeaten in the League their Best start to a Campaign since 2005. Well that's put the Kibosh on it. Hopefully the Magpies can keep their Run Going, but Saturday is going to be a Toughie. Eventually Notts will get beat. And that will be a Test of Stuart Maynard's Metal, particularly if it's a Heavy One. It will Show his Ability about picking up the team after such a Match. It will also give us Fans an insight into how Far he as come as a Head Coach.

@liampie Nah I'm Sorry Mate You Got It All Wrong. Queen Elizabeth I (for it was she who gave permission for English, Not the UK, for the UK was still made up of the independent Nations of England Scotland and Ireland. Wales was considered part of England ) Sailors to capture Spanish Ships and return their cargo to England, where the Crown took a percentage of their Booty/Loot. The Queen stated they were in fact Buccaneers ( which sounds much Nicer Than Pirates???? don't yer think?)

Quirky 60s & 70s TV Series
@super_ram The one thing clearly I remember about the Quiz Ball Final, it was between Derby and Crystal Palace and Dear Old Ronnie Corbett presented the Winners Trophy. David Vine introduced Ronnie at the start of the Final as a Crystal Palace Fan. When Derby beat them before he presented Alan Durban with the Winners Trophy, Ronnie stated that there'd been a mistake in the opening announcement, that being he was in fact a Derby County Fan and Not a Crystal Palace Fans. Which brought much laughter from all present in the Studio.

Football is a Squad Game Now.
@Robbie Well I guess you're right football is now a Squad Game. The question is why? Well it's my belief that the amount of games played by teams, the days when a Manager played his Best XI players with a couple of Subs on the bench for the most part of the whole season are now gone. 12-13 players wouldn't be able to play every game nowadays. Compared to today a Team would play their league matches, F.A. Cup matches (plus replays) and League Cup Matches (plus Replays) and that would seem about it, unless of course a Team was involved in European Competition, then again those matches were only played over two legs. I would say the Biggest culprits of bringing about the Squad Game are, the likes of Sky Sports and the Crazy amounts of money they pay to televise live football have forced Clubs to invest in a 22-24 man Squad. Simply the more games that are played the more money they get the more money the Football Authorities get along with the Top Clubs and Players. I believe it was at Sky's insistence that the Football League Playoffs were introduced. Something to this Day I think are both Wrong and Unfair. That along with the Top Four Teams of each European Footballing Nation given the Chance to play in the Champions League, playing those amount of games a Squad of Players is now the only way for a Club to compete. Of course the Game as also changed, players are Fitter and the game played in most cases at a Faster Pace and Injuries certainly seem to increase season on season, another reason for the introduction of the Squad Game. Plus back in the day how far would a team travel to play in a Preseason Friendly? They certainly wouldn't travel half way around the World. Whether us Old Un's like it or Not, the Squad Game is here to stay.

Family Tree
@TheSkipper Wow that certainly sounds like it may be worth pursuing, an Ancestor who fought the Spanish Armada, however it would be one huge task confirming it or even going about it, the only thing I could suggest is getting in touch with the Royal Navy Records, but I doubt even their Records would go back that far. As for the Portrait in your Parents hallway if you take it to an Antique Dealer they should have an expert on board who could date the Paining for you. There maybe opposition to that suggestion, as Most Families have some sort of Story about an Ancestor who way back in the Mists of time who did something Brave or outstanding or was a member of some Ship's Crew who fought the Spanish or French or any other Sea faring Nation and they have No Wish to know the Truth, such as the Portrait which hangs on their wall was painted in the Victorian Times and Not in the 1580's. They much Prefer the Story which as been Past Down through the Generations.

Family Tree
@Chris The Topic I've written is meant to be just for a laugh, on a Serious Note I've in the past traced my Family Tree, well branches of it I've only done my direct line (excluding Aunts and Uncles and Brothers and Sisters and their Partners and children e.tc) Because that takes up one hell of a time. There is some truth in the above jokey Family Tree that being, my Mum does have Scottish Ancestry (Not sure about Red Indian Fighters). My study of Coats of Arms and Heraldry (which I wrote about in another Topic on PON) started my interest in finding out about my Family's past, and if you have the time doing the research yourself when you find out something it's an Amazing and Satisfying Feeling, much better that paying some Online company vast amounts of money to do all the work for you. Admittedly Online sites can be helpful, if you become stuck at a certain point as Census only go back to a certain date. If your Grandfather or Great Grandfather served in the Armed Forces during the World Wars, their service records can be read usually Free of Charge on the Regiment in which they served on the Regiments Website. Birth Marriage and Death Certificates, are a Good Start, but an Elderly Living Relative Grandparents, Aunts Uncles E.tc. are Goldmine of Information. Unfortunately by the the time most people who become interested in their Family Tree, those Relatives have Sadly Passed Away.

Family Tree
I've told the joke my Family Tree only goes back three Generations, because my Grandad was a Lumberjack. However after watching Who Do You Think You Are? I thought wouldn't it be interesting, to find out about my Family Tree. So to that End I employed a Genealogist, one Doctor Tom Cobblers who came up with the Following Interesting Facts about, some of my Ancestors. I had nothing to do with any of these facts about my Family Tree, so the Work described here is all Cobblers. 1066. One of my Ancestors was first on the scene when King Harold Got an Arrow in his eye. His advice to the King ? Keep blinking 'H' it'll work it's way out. During the War with Napoleon, one of my Ancestors was on a Ship which was captured by the French. The Emperor himself questioned the Crew. He declared that the British should surrender and let him rule Britain because he would beat any British Force. To which my Ancestor became the first person to use the term Oh Yeah, You And Who's Army? That same Ancestor remained a French P.O.W for a few years, and in fact married a French Woman. Their eldest Son became a Famous French Chef, who invented Gravy. I found this very interesting. Really I said one of my Ancestors invented Gravy. Oh Yes said Dr Cobblers I'm sure you've heard of the Count of Monte Bisto. On my Mother's side there is Scottish ancestry and one of her Ancestors emigrated to America, where he became a Famous Red Indian Fighter. Hawkeye the Nu. This last Fact I find the most Interesting. Have you heard about the Football Match which took place between English and German Soldiers on Christmas Day 1914, during World War I ? The Final Score was 1-1. However my Great Grandad thought he had scored a late Winner only for it to be disallowed, just before the Big Guns started firing again. He swore till his Dying Day he wasn't Off Side claiming there were at least Two German Soldier Defenders Level With Him. Well there you have it my fellow PON Members,, if you're thinking about doing your Family Tree, go ahead and Do It, you can find out some interesting things about Your Past.

@Robbie That's one Hell of a Good Point Robbie. Because if there's a Recruitment Team at Millwall and they decided they wanted Macca, they bought him and then told their Head Coach to get on with Coaching him. The thing is the Millwall Head Coach isn't going to change his whole Game Plan for the sake of One Player so poor Old Macca is Stuck at a place he doesn't want to be and is playing a System that is totally Alien to him, and it would seem he isn't going to get enough game time to be able to adapt to the New System.

Get him back down the Lane on loan and then buy him back in the January Transfer Window. Wishful Thinking? Maybe but something need to be done to End the Lad's Torment. He should Never have Gone To Millwall in the First Place.

Junior Morias to Dagenham & Redbridge on loan.
As I've said before @Blake it didn't seem to me Junior had a fair crack of the Whip at Notts, as neither Luke Williams or Stuart Maynard gave him much playing time. Why? Maybe as @Robbie as said maybe he had the wrong attitude in Training or he couldn't form a Relationship with either the Coaching Staff or fellow players? Who knows? I also agree with you I think Notts will sell him in the January Transfer Window.

How Jodi Jones’ Extension Sets the Stage for Notts County’s Future
To hear what Jodi has said about the club speaks volumes about the Players Character and his Dedication to get the Magpies Promoted to League 1. To say he prefers assists than goals also shows the huge Respect he has for his Team Mates. It is No Wonder we the Fans have taken him to our Hearts. It would be totally Amazing if Notts could keep him at the Lane. But a word of warning the more he produces the kind of form, which he has shown over the past couple of seasons and is continuing to show now, it wont belong before Bigger Clubs begin to take Notice and as it's been stated Every Player has his Price. We only have to look back at the Macca situation, during the last off season. So lets Enjoy Jodi's Skills while we can and Appreciate what he has done for our Club. And should he move on to a Club higher up the Footballing Pyramid, Lets Not Begrudge Him That Opportunity.

Junior Morias to Dagenham & Redbridge on loan.
Fair points @Robbie what I still can't get my head round is why was Junior loaned out in the first place? By keeping him at the Lane it would have given Ced's a longer time to recover from his injury. With his loan move that is why I was wondering that Notts may now feel that Junior really doesn't suit the Magpies style of play. Admittedly the Recruitment team will have had all the Data on him, but they haven't got it right all of the time have they? Cedwyn Scott I feel perhaps came back to early, plus the departure of Macca may have also had an effect on him and despite giving him the number 9 shirt, Maynard is playing Jatta (when he's fit) in that position and forcing Scott to play a deeper role, which is unfamiliar to him.
-
Is It Just Me?
You certainly raise a few good points @Chris. I also noticed that in the photo stills of Jodi his shirt does seem to hang more loosely on him. And in reference to his last interview he did say he'd been hitting the Gym as I recall, however I just assumed that would be part of his daily training regime anyway. Jodi's start to the season as been excellent and if he continues in that vein expect a Lot of clubs, higher up the Football Pyramid come sniffing around the Lane come January.
-
Junior Morias to Dagenham & Redbridge on loan.
Well done Junior I'm happy for the lad. The Question is @Robbie would Junior want to come back to the Lane? If he starts hitting the back of the net on a regular basis, he may want to see if he could do it at Notts come January. The thing is if he does return he'll still be down the pecking order behind Jatta, Didzy and Cedwyn Scott (should he prove his fitness and start scoring goals). Would he want to hang around and just wait for a chance? Or would he be prefer to remain at the Daggers where he's more or less guaranteed a starting place in their first XI. A lot of things could change between now and January and as I've said before it doesn't seem likely he'll get much of a chance under Stuart Maynard maybe our Head Coach thinks he doesn't suit Notts style of play and that's why he was loaned out in the first place. I think Notts will extend his loan at Dagenham and perhaps sell him to them at the end of this current season. The Recruitment team at Notts will I believe look for another striker (if one is needed) in the January Transfer window.

Is It Just Me?
A very quick and simple question. As Jodi Jones bulked up ? I don't know if other PON Members have noticed but it seems to me, that Jodi Jones appears much bigger than he did last season. It Strikes me he's put on more bulk this year, by that I mean (to me any way) he seems bigger and more muscular in his appearance. His face seems fuller so as he decided to Bulk up to help more with his defensive duties and make it harder for opposition players to bundle him off the Ball? Or Is It Just Me?

What Makes A Good Striker?
You'd best ask Arthur Scargill, he had a few Strikers ????. Joking apart @Robbie the game has changed so much over the years, at one time a strikers job was to just score goals, very rarely did you see them back defending, that was the job of a defender that's what he was paid for. As you have said there's more to a Strikers game nowadays. And a striker getting the right amount of service and his team mates playing to his strengths is very important ( that maybe why Macca isn't doing to well at the moment, No service). Back in the 1970's when Liverpool dominated the then First Division, John Toshak and Kevin Keegan had a deadly partnership, each seemed to know where the other was during a Liverpool attack. Ian St John and Ian Callaghan were the guys who provided the service to the Strike Force. Looking back over the years all successful Striker partnerships seem to have a telepathic bond with each other, which I believe Macca and Cedwyn Scott had at Gateshead and something I don't think either Luke Williams or Stuart Maynard exploited to it's full potential. Admittedly Ced's injury didn't help matters, but when they were both fit they didn't play in the same positions has they had done while at Gateshead. Also Back in the Day Assists weren't a thing, it was all about the Goal Scorer not the guy who passed him the ball. That of course has changed now and the player who assists with a goal, rightly gets the credit he deserves. Back int he 70's or 80's Jodi certainly wouldn't have got the recognition he received last season. At the moment I don't think Notts have a Strike force as such, both Didzy and Jatta take their chances when they come but I don't think you can actually claim they work well together, at the moment Notts are scoring goals from all over the pitch which is a good thing, both Jodi and Dan Crowley have hit the back of the net in several matches, can they keep this up for the whole season? Probably not that's why Stuart Maynard has to get Cedwyn Scott firing on all cylinders and getting in amongst the goals, or further into the season the Magpies may find their Goals drying up and that could prove costly for Notts and their push for Promotion.

Quirky 60s & 70s TV Series
@Robbie You know I thought about Rising Damp, then got distracted and I forgot to put it down. Another Leonard Rossiter program The Rise and Fall of Reggie Perrin. But then again I didn't get to where I am today forgetting to write down Leonard Rossiter's TV Series. If you saw the Reggie Perrin series, his Boss CJ was always saying he didn't get where I am today... it was his catch phrase. Before Billy Connolly came on the scene from Scotland came the Stanley Baxter Show. Also in the 70's the BBC used to show a Laurel & Hardy film before the Six o'clock News. Master Mind, Criss Cross Quiz, Opportunity Knocks, Double Your Money, Take Your Pick. Top of the Form. Here's another blast from the past Quiz Ball, I bet @super_ram will remember that because Derby County were Crowned Quiz Ball Champions. A Question of Sport. Sports night with Coleman. Match of the Day, The Big Match. Well I've wracked my Brains and for the moment I can't think of anymore, but I'm sure there must be other Programs I'll remember.
