So Who Runs The Notts First Team?
That's it I know what you're thinking the Old Wheelbarrow Repairman has gone off his Rocker. Stuart Maynard Runs the the Notts First XI. But does he? Is he the only One who makes all the Decisions? Bear with me and I'll Explain. Going back a few months the Magpie Circle Pod Cast had both Notts C.E.O. Joe Palmer and Head of Recruitment Richard Montague on and it more or less went has many PON Members said it would, neither were asked any difficult questions, but thinking back there was something Richard Montague said that didn't really Register at the time, however thinking back, he said something which as got me thinking. That was During a Match he walks up and down getting worried about the Notts Performance if things aren't going right, yeah Ok but all us Fans get worried when things don't go the Magpies way True. But walking up and down worrying about things is something Stuart Maynard should do in his technical Area, isn't it? It shouldn't be a Problem for the Head of Recruitment unless of course he has something to do with the Team Selection and he must make sure the Notts Playing "Model" is followed to the letter. It is the Latter which got me thinking Stuart Maynard was hired because he played a similar style to that of a Luke Williams team, so was one of the conditions Stuart was hired, was it he would have to stick to the "Model" regardless ? And let us not forget Stuart was only a Part time Coach when he was hired, so was Richard Montague given the task of helping him make the switch from Part Time to Full Time Coach? And is Richard Montague still in that Role? Then again it's Probably Me Just Seeing Things That Aren't There. Then Again....

Notts Academy Is There Any Point?
How very True @liampie how very True. If an Academy Player is Good Enough to play elsewhere he should be good enough to play for Notts or at least given a Run in the Team to see how he performs. Sam Osborne is an excellent example who knows what he could have achieved if he had been given a Fair Crack of the Whip at the Lane?

Gareth Southgate. What Now? (edit....Southgate resigned 16July24)
The Thing is @liampie The England Fans can see this, the Pundits can see this, So I Beg to Ask why can't Southgate and to a certain extent the F.A ?Who Must make their New Coach a Man who knows How To Play Under Pressure and get the Very Best out of his Players and make them Perform beyond their current Playing Level. Hence my pick(s) for the New England Coach Eddie Howe or Sean Dyche. I also agree with you regarding Harry Kane, he as been made a Scapegoat. He came into this Tournament carrying a Back Injury, it's No Good having a Player who is not 100% Fit. What Southgate should have done was play Kane in the first Group match then rested him, until the Knock out stages and see how he went from there, That way both Palmer and Watkins would have had their chance to show off their skills earlier and give Southgate Food for Thought. But No Southgate just sticks with an unfit Kane, So not did he only ruin England with his Poor Tactics but also put a Big Dent in Kane's reputation. Plus every Coach should know, You Never Get Much Joy from Playing a Single Striker Up Front.

Spain v England: Pre & Post Match Analysis.
@Robbie and therein lies the Problem, Only 35% of Premier League players are English. So the F.A need to Put a Cap on Foreign players appearing in the Premier League, each English Club should only be allowed 3-5 Foreign Players in their Squad. That way young English Talent won't be strangled and kept out of their teams starting XI by some Mediocre Foreign player with astronomical wage demands, and English Premier League Clubs would be encouraged to Produce their Own Talent who would then be able to give the New England Coach a Bigger Choice of Players.

Southgate: Should he stay or go?
Bloody Hell @Robbie. I've just sat down and wrote a Topic on Southgate's Future As Well. Talk About Great Minds Think A Like. There is a difference in our Topics under different titles so there isn't a Clash, just differing opinions on the same Subject.

Notts Academy Is There Any Point?
@Robbie I see your point regarding Notts may have a sell on clause in which they receive money should an Academy Player come good later on in his later career, But wouldn't it be Better for Notts to Benefit from his Skills for a few seasons then sell him on and include sell on clauses in that Transfer? Like they've Done with Macca (Hopefully).

Gareth Southgate. What Now? (edit....Southgate resigned 16July24)
After the Huge Disappointment of an English Defeat in another Euro's Final, what does the Future hold for Gareth Southgate? His current contract runs until December this year, but I would hope he realises that His Time Is Up as the National Teams Head Coach. Of course Southgate is the Darling of the F.A. he always does as he's told, but Eight Years is Long Enough and two Runners Ups medals is Nothing, Nobody Remembers who came Second in a Tournament, and as the Old Saying Goes, You Get Nowt For Being Second. Who to Replace him with? Well as I have said before it has to be an Englishman as in my opinion No Foreign Coach is going to be able to Whip up the ENTHUSIAM to lead a a Country other than his own, No matter his Track Record. The two leading English Managers/ Head Coaches either Eddie Howe or Sean Dyche. Both have Managed in the Lower Leagues both know what it's like to fight a Relegation Battle and for a large part of their Careers have been at Clubs were their Transfers have been on a Shoe String Budget. Think what they might achieve with all the Talent England have at the Moment. But will Southgate continue to be as Stubborn and be determined to Hold and Hang onto his Present Position. If so Gareth I have just this to say to you,( and I'm Para phrasing here) As Oliver Cromwell said to the Rump Parliament, Leopold Amery to Neville Chamberlain and David Davis to Boris Johnson. In The Name Of God GO.

Notts Academy Is There Any Point?
With the Greatest of Respect @Robbie your Article appeared (to me anyway) that it was just about the Academies of the Premier League. Teams like Notts are way down the list of selling Players for vast amounts of money. Did Notts receive and any cash for Tiernan or Lucien? Probably not but if any money was exchanged then it would have been a Piddling Amount compared to the upper echelons of Premier League Clubs. Looking at the signings made by the Notts Recruitment team over the past few seasons, it seems a lot of New Players who come to the Lane are signed on a Free Transfer and only the occasional player is bought with money, I.E. Macca £50.000 and Jatta £125,000 (?) that the Fans Know of as most of the Notts Dealings are done under the Undisclosed Fee umbrella. Which of course is their right. Buying (at a low price) or getting a player on a Free Transfer makes Financial sense, But I believe that bringing on your own Players is more Rewarding than going out and signing players who may or may not fit into the Notts playing system, a System (you would hope) an Academy Player was all ready familiar with. James Sanderson at 17 is an Ideal graduate to be given a run in the First Team for a few matches to see how he develops, in Match Conditions under the watchful eye of a Senior Player. Will Stuart Maynard have the Courage to put him in the team? Would he be allowed too? More than likely Not and young James will be Loaned out continually and then Realised once his Contract is up. If Notts are going to keep on doing this, What Is The Point Of Notts Having An Academy?

England or Notts?
Notts Losing a Playoff Final With Out A Shadow Of A Doubt. I Remember the Feelings my whole Family and Self had when the Magpies got Beat by Harrogate in the Behind Doors Final during Covid. To this Day My Youngest Son still says if the Magpies had had the Fans Behind Them, that Day they would have Won and Gone Straight Back Into The EFL.

Notts Academy Is There Any Point?
@True Magpie How True your words are. Notts lack a Defined Pathway for young players to gain first team experience and a Head Coach is needed to have belief in his Academy Graduates and Not Be Afraid to Give his Youngsters a Chance. That's why I said playing the young un's along side Experienced Notts Players will Help Them Improve their Footballing Skills. New signing Curtis Edwards seems to be one of the Teams most Experienced players now, put a Young up and coming Academy Player along side him, to watch how he plays his game and learn from the Guy in Proper Match Conditions, then Maybe Just Maybe the Academy Lad will Improve a lot Faster than being continually Loaned Out.

Spain v England: Pre & Post Match Analysis.
So Near And Yet.... The First Spanish Goal shows what a Talent Yamal and Williams are but what happened to the English Defence? The Amount of space Williams was given why had nobody picked him up? England knew what a Danger he was but he was left in Acres of Room and Bang Spain 1 England 0. Cole Palmer's equalizer was also an Excellent Goal and I thought Saka did well in the Build up. But I think England knew it wasn't going to be their night when that Spanish Defender headed the Ball off the Line. Again questions need to be asked Regarding the English Defence and Spain's Winner. Once Walker was beaten by the Spanish player and the ball came in there was No Attempt by the England defender to move and cut the cross out, and Bang Spain 2 England 1. And More Heartache for England and their Fans. Time To Go Southgate you've had eight years in the Job and you've failed to Win a Trophy in either of the Finals England have Appeared in. You Get Nowt For Coming Second. Have the Decency to Leave Pass the Reigns onto a New Coach. New England Coach? Eddie Howe or Sean Dyche.

Was it a Penalty?
The thing is @Robbie would the Referee given a Free Kick if the incident had happened on the Halfway Line? At first he didn't give the Penalty and only consulted VAR afterwards. So he may well have viewed the Foul (on the Halfway Line) as he had first viewed the Penalty and Not Given It. The thing is with Incidents like this happening all the time in Football it's subjected to a matter of different opinions to different people, many will see it as a Penalty while others won't. But when it comes down to it VAR decided it was a Penalty and England scored from the Resulting Spot Kick, then went on to Grab a late Winner, which put them in Todays Final. And No amount of Was it Wasn't It Talk Is going to Change That.

A very good article in the FT on the Spanish wingers
Why do the Media keep going on and on About the Colour of a Players Skin? It's so Bloody Annoying, Both are Young and Highly Talented Footballers and have worked hard to get where they are today, Lets Just Celebrate That Fact.

Was it a Penalty?
Personally I didn't think it was a Penalty, I thought the Defender was doing his job trying to stop Kane from scoring. At first the Referee said No and if there had been No such thing as VAR then there would have been No Penalty.. Interestingly Enough a lot of English Fans have stated it was Karma for Dutch Manager Ronald Koeman, who should have been Red Carded in an England vs Holland match back in 1993, but got away with his foul and scored the Match Winner.

World Cup Final 1966.
@Robbie I didn't watch the Channel 4 rerun of the 1966 World Cup Final, but believe it or not I have a copy of the match on DVD which was given away with a Newspaper ( I Don't remember which) quite a few years ago. I also remember watching the Final as a 9 year old with my Dear Old Dad. We sat there glued to the box and every time England went close he'd squeeze my right arm when I complained about it, he would say sorry and rub my arm, then go back to squeezing it when England went close to scoring. When England scored he'd jump up in the Air and shout Goal. The second Geoff Hurst goal he sat there hand on my arm he thought the Ball had crossed the line, then he said the Ref's not going to give it. Then the Russian Linesman said yes it was a goal, we jumped up together hugging and cheering. My Mum who wasn't really into football and didn't follow the Match, would come in from the Kitchen when we were cheering and say They've Scored Then. Regarding that England Team I'm in Full Agreement with You Robbie, The 66 Team would Hammer the current 3 Lions side.

More #Notts model magpies!
Does the Creator have Copyright to produce these Magpies ? What with them wearing Notts shirts with their sponsors name on them, it could Infringe Copyright. The Club have just lately come down on people using the Notts Brand. Is that just the Magpie Badge or does it Include the Shirt and Sponsor Logo's?

Who Will Get The Notts Number 9 Shirt?

Who Will Get The Notts Number 9 Shirt?
@Robbie Other things that I Think are a Load of Tripe in Modern Football? That could be a Long List, but all I'd Get Is Well Everything's Got To Move On you can't stay in the Past Forever. So I Ain't Going To Waste My Breath. Just to say things were much better back in the Day when there were Managers, instead of Head Coaches and the English Game was the English Game and Not Full Of Foreign Coaches, Players and Owners mainly Americans, ( Chris & Alex seem to be the exception). And the Adoption of the Continental Style of Playing Football.

Who Will Get The Notts Number 9 Shirt?
@Robbie I Guess it just isn't the In Thing Nowadays. What a Load Of Tripe.

Notts Academy Is There Any Point?
With the Departure of Tiernan Brookes , Lucien Mahovo , and Luther Munakandafa being given the opportunity to seek pastures New I would ask is there really any point in Notts having an Academy? If I remember correctly the last player to come through the Ranks at Notts was Curtis Thompson, who played for the Club 83 times over a period from 2011-2018. Since that time despite several youngster showing Promise each just repeatedly get loaned out over and over again, and once their contract is finished, they are let go to carry on the Careers at other Clubs. Main Case in Point. Tiernan Brookes was with the Club 7 years and in that time was loaned out 7 times. He was described by Lincoln United Chairman Rob Bradley as the Best Young Keeper he'd ever seen. He also covered for Sam Slocombe when Sam was injured and in each of his matches (4) it was declared he was going from Strength to Strength. If (like he should have done) been given a chance in the Notts Goal instead of the Club signing Aiden Stone, Tiernan could well have been the Notts first choice keeper this season. The Magpies have Now given Ryley Reynolds a 2 year contract, his first Professional Contract I believe. So what's going to happen to him? My Guess he'll play some Pre-Season Games, he may get 1 or 2 Cup appearances then sent out on loan. To "Learn" how to Play the Men's Game. Then once his contract is finished he'll be allowed to Move On Elsewhere. So Much for Richard Montague's we want to Encourage Players from the Academy to go on and Play For The First Team. Yeah Right. How can they get a chance to play for the first team if they never get anywhere near the Pitch? Their Best Hope maybe a place on the Bench. Look at last season the opportunity of a youngster playing along side Jim O'Brien, the wealth of Experience JOB has could have helped the Kid progress at an incredible rate and they may have been able to, step into Jim's shoes once he'd left the Lane. That's how Academy players improve, not repeatedly sent to different clubs at a lower level. Plus how does this Reflect on the Head of the Academy? He's got all this young Talent and he's convinced they can Do A Job for the Magpies, only to see Players Depart to Pastures New once their contract is up. Truly the Mind Boggles.

Who Will Get The Notts Number 9 Shirt?
Like a lot of things the in the Boring World of "Modern" Football, the 1 to 11 shirt numbers have been Sacrificed in favour of Squad numbers. You should see our number 26 just Doesn't have the Same Ring To It Like, You Should See Our New Number 9. Is this Something Else that's been Adopted from the "Continent?"

Three Leopards II
@liampie I have never been to Ireland ( so I can't pass comment on it's people) however Irish people I've known (we had an Irish family living next to us when I was young) always seemed warm and caring. Scots I've always found polite and helpful in my visits to that wonderful scenic country and the Welsh are very much the same. It as been several years since I've been to either Scotland or Wales so things may have changed, I Hope Not.
