  1. Willie Carlin, Matijja Sarkic and now Kevin Campbell. The loss of three players in such a short time, truly Heart Breaking. May they All Rest In Peace.
  2. Walking round a Record Shop the other day looking at LP's, the prices nowadays are Crazy. Anyway going through Records section by Section .I couldn't find what I wanted. So I said to the Youth behind the Counter What have you got by the Doors. He looked at me a bit funny and replied A Bucket of Sand and a Fire Blanket. Everybody thinks they're a Comedian.
  3. Woah @Robbie, You could have opened a Big Can Of Worms Here Fella. But I admire you taking on such a challenge. Saved me the job of doing it . I'm going to have to put the Old Thinking Cap on before answering it. The old grey matter is gonna be working over time But fear Not I shall return with my answers.
  4. There's an old Guy sitting on his front porch when a little lad he knows walks by with something under his arm. What you got there Johnny ? I've got me a roll of Chicken wire, I'm gonna catch me some chickens. The old Guy says You wont catch chickens with chicken wire. But a few hours later back comes Johnny with half a dozen Chickens in the chicken wire. The following day the old Guy's out on his porch again and along comes Johnny. What you got there Johnny? I've got me some Duct tape, I'm gonna catch me some ducks You'll never catch any Ducks with Duct tape. But once again a few hours later Johnny returns with six ducks wrapped in the Duct tape. On the third day Johnny comes along swishing a stick though the air What you got there Johnny? asks the old Guy I've got me some P**** Willow. Hold on Son, I'll get me coat and come with you.
  5. It is Sad to hear about the Death of any player in the Football Family , but it certainly hits home when a Guy so young passes. R.IP Matija
  6. @Robbie Which is why Cloughie never got the England Job. I remember in an interview Brian Clough stated that the FA were worried that if he was appointed England Manager, he'd want to take over everything and Run It Properly. And I would have he stated. If Brian Clough and Peter Taylor had lead England in the 1970's I am 100% Convinced there would have been more Trophies in the England Trophy Cabinet.
  7. @Robbie I wouldn't count on it, proving you wrong that is. Southgate is a Yes Man, that's why the F.A. like him, and realistically what ever happens to England in this Tournament, it's time for Southgate to go, something which should have happened a while ago. The Men to take over the England Squad? Either Eddie Howe or Shaun Dyce. Both are Inspirational Leaders and both have turned unfancied teams in Bournemouth and Burnley into Premier League Teams when they were in charge. Even when Burnley were Relegated Dyce brought them back up. Both now are doing excellent jobs at Newcastle and Everton.
  8. How many times over the Years have the Germans trotted out the saying, We're not as Strong as we once were, we have star players out injured, it looks as if the German team will Struggle. Yeah we've heard it all before, but the Strange thing is when it comes to Big Tournaments Germany always seem to find that Extra Gear and some unknown German Player suddenly turns into a World Beater. Plus this time they are on Home Soil. Discount Germany At Your Peril.
  9. @allardyces tash Regarding Southgate. There is a saying You Get Nowt For Coming Second. All the talent he has available England should have Won a Major Tournament by Now. But the further England advance in a Tournament Southgate reverts back to his negative tactics instead of letting his players play with flare and use their Natural Abilities.
  10. Not surprised Brinds is a Decent Player. He just seem to be unable to cope with being asked to play different Roles at Notts. All the chopping and changing didn't seem to do his confidence any good. Play him in a position he's comfortable with and any Club will have a good defender on their hands.
  11. The Wife and I went for a drive in the country. We stopped at this nice Pub. In the lounge there was this chap sitting next to the fire he had dog lying at his feet, of course the wife goes over and starts making a fuss of the Dog. Who's this then? she asked. That be my Gun Dog Caesar replied the owner Anyway we sat down at a nearby table, when this Bloke walks in and goes to the bar. Instantly Caesar's up watching this Bloke like an hawk. The bloke sits down. Caesar sits down. As soon as the bloke gets up again, the Dog's straight up and watches him until he sits down again, then the Dog sits down again. Anyway this goes on all night every time this Chap makes a move old Caesar's up watching until the chap settles down again, the Dog sits back down. Just before closing time, the Chap turns to leave, and the Barman says Good night Mr Partridge.
  12. In a season which Promised so much at it's beginning only to falter and Fall away, the one player who impressed me last season was Aaron Nemane who despite the drop in the Teams over all performance went about his footballing business in a quiet and professional way and seemed to improve as the season progressed he scored goals, one of which was voted as the Goal of the season by Fans. And if he can carry on in this rich vein of form I can see Aaron becoming a Big Part in Notts push for promotion this coming season, and the Notts Big Three ( Macca, Jodi and Dan) could quite possibly become the Big Four. The thing is with Aaron like Jodi he's no defender he's no bigger than a pile of Pennies and the chances of him out jumping a six foot plus opposition Striker are Zilch. However now Notts Have signed the Likes of Matt Platt and Jacob Bedeau hopefully Aaron's defensive skills will not be Not Be Called Upon. Leaving him free to set up the Notts attack score more goals and cause opposing defences all kinds of problems. Right my Fellow PON members who do you think is the most Improved player at the Lane?
  13. You know I really enjoy Wildlife Programmes on the Tele. They're really interesting. You learn all about animals Insects fish and all the Creatures on our Earth. You also get questions to answer about the Animal Planet, Like, How many Flies does it take to Screw in a Light Bulb? Answer Two. The biggest problem is getting them into the Light Bulb.
  14. @Fan of Big Tone I'm afraid that's how Football is nowadays. Results are the only thing that matter and Coaches who don't deliver straight away will soon find themselves out of a job. You only have to look at Stuart Maynard's successor at Wealdstone. I'm not sure about the Owners Not Being Swayed by Fans. If results don't go the Magpies way and there is suddenly a Drop from 11,000 to 5or 6,000 fans at Home Games I don't see Stuart Maynard lasting very long. As long as Coach is winning all well and Good but otherwise.... I'm sure a Vast Majority of Notts Fans will be behind SM and the team. So here's to a Good Season, a top half finish and a Run at the Playoffs.
  15. @Robbie Maybe that the whole trouble with the "Modern" Game there is to much influence from Europe and there are to many Foreign Coaches in the English Game like there are to many Foreign players, how many times do you see a talented English youngster frozen out of an English team, to be replaced by a Mediocre Foreign player costing Millions of pounds? It seems that English talent needs to go abroad, to play. Jude Bellingham, Jordan Sancho and Harry Kane being the latest to display their talents abroad. Sorry about the Rant, now back to Topic in question. Can you imagine what Cloughie would have done to his Goalkeeper, if they started playing the Sweeper Keeper Role and were robbed by an opposition striker and they scored against Forest? If not go on You tube and listen to Mark Crossley's story about how Cloughie got rid of David Currie. Yes things change and progress with time but Not Always For The Better. Which was proven last season at Notts once teams worked out how to play against the Magpies, the threat of the Notts attack was nullified, to a certain extent by the errors in the Defence. And I would ask Stuart Maynard, if he's going to persist with the Notts "Model" which seems highly likely, No Scratch That. That is 100% Certain at LEAST SPEED THE BLOODY THING UP. Tippy Tappy Football is the Most Boring Mind Numbing type of Football ever played.
  16. @Robbie I remember many years ago Gordon Banks said in an interview, that if you want to be a Goalkeeper, go and join the Worst team in your area, not the Best. That way you'll have to stop more shots and learn the Art of Goalkeeping a Hell of a lot quicker. When Banks was at Leicester it was he who trained Peter Shilton. who eventually took Banks place in the Leicester first team. And both played for England so Banks did something right. I also remember Gary Sprake at Leeds United, he could throw a ball further than some Keepers could kick one. Who remembers the Goal Pat Jennings scored against Manchester United? Other keepers have scored the same type of goal, but I think Pat was the First or one of the First to do it. Sweeper Keeper how I Hate that term A Goalkeeper should just be that, he should as you have stated just concentrate on shot stopping, commanding their area, catching crosses and corners, and lets not forget, saving the odd Penalty. How many times in games since this Sweeper Keeper thing came in have we seen some keepers trying to be clever and play the ball out and either getting Robbed by a striker or his pass intercepted resulting in a Goal for their opponents. With the Greatest of Respect in my Opinion the Goalkeeping Coach position is just an unnecessary expense for a Club. Training young Goalies is the job for the Senior Keeper (eg Banks and Shilton.) And playing a young player (no matter what position) along side an experienced player would help the youngster develop his footballing skills a hell of a lot quicker, and under Match Conditions.
  17. @menzinho Michael O'Connor ruptured an ACL in 2016, During his recovery from his injury he was given a Scouting position by Kevin Nolan. He played for Notts in their last six games of 2017/18, helping Notts gain a Play Off Place. So both Yates and O'Connor played for the Magpies after their injuries unlike Bajrami.
  18. @Piethagoram No according to records Dean Yates suffered a serious knee injury in February 1992 which ruled him out for two years however he did manage one appearance in 1993/94 season. He was fully fit for 1994/95 season and playing in the Notts Team in their fight against Relegation he was Sold to Derby for £350,000 before Notts were Relegated.
  19. Well it looks like I'm going to be in the minority here. Sorry guys but I put a lot of Value on Loyalty, after Notts looked after him during his Long Term Injury Spell he pays the Club back, by not accepting a New Contract. It doesn't matter even if it was only for a year, he should have signed it to show his appreciation to Notts and for all the Help they gave him. Signing again for the Magpies and battling to get himself into the Starting Eleven. Bajrami is quoted with saying. Burton are a League Higher than Notts, and I want to play as high as I can as soon as I can. I want to challenge myself and be a part of what's happening at this club. A fair enough statement on the surface. But why couldn't he challenge himself at the Lane? By becoming a regular starter and helping Notts gain Promotion? Mind you I suppose getting more money at Burton by sitting on his backside on the bench, is much easier than working hard at getting a regular Start at Notts. Though it may appear different I bare the Guy No Ill Will, it's just that I feel he should have shown Notts More Loyalty.
  20. @Robbie Ok you say SM hasn't faded into the Background that may have been the wrong wording, but he certainly hasn't been really forthcoming chatting with Media, wouldn't you say a More Upfront Coach would inspire the fans to be more confident in the Team's approach to the New Season? Stuart's Man Management skills are not the Best and as yet he's failed to form a Bond with the Magpies faithful. To me Stuart doesn't come across as Confident Enough, hence the Question I asked in this Topic's title. Appointing Neil Warnock as Director of Football as never really been a thing, it's just my opinion. It's never been discussed in the Media and me mentioning him hasn't caused any problems for the Head Coach. I'll admit I am a huge Fan of Neil Warnock and I believe his experience could have helped Maynard on his coaching journey Pie in the Sky or Not, and don't you think a Man of Warnock's Pedigree could easily adapt to the Notts County "Model"? And People saying we should get behind the Head Coach and Players, of course that is a foregone Conclusion, but for every Fan who holds that view there is another who will hold a different one. And Thankfully which ever camp your in you can safely express your opinion on the PON Website.
  21. @CliftonMagpie that's just the point there are Fans who will Not put aside last season or his current Record. That is something Stuart is having to live with, win a few Matches and your the Greatest thing since Sliced Bread, lose a couple and some Fans will be Braying for his Head, that's just the way Football and Fickle fans are. My point is Do Notts Fans Believe that Stuart has the Character to over come the Pressure? Despite his poor Results Record there were a Few Highlights, away victories at Newport and Bradford come to mind. I think an in depth interview with the Gaffer ( with him answering even difficult questions) would give Fans an insight into Stuart's Character and what makes him tick.
  22. Kasper would be a Dream Come True @Robbie and realistically I think it would take some sort of Miracle Getting Back Him Back Down The Lane. As you have stated a Keeper of plenty of Experience is needed to pass on Tips and help develop young Keepers such as Tiernan Brookes. That's No Disrespect to the Notts Goalkeeping Coach Steve Collis but an Experienced Keeper playing matches on a regular basis will know all about Pressures and how to cope with them while being involved in playing a League 2 Match.
  23. With the signing of New Players the Opening of the Nest, the construction of a New Pitch things are in Full Flow down the Lane, in readiness for the Start of the New Season. With all this Going On it seems the Notts Head Coach has sort of Faded into the Background. Yes he's spoken about New Players and the appointment of Macca as the Magpies New Captain. But what about the Man himself, nobody has sat down with him and asked what kind of pressure he's feeling going into the New Season after all his current Results Record is Very Poor. How difficult as it been adjusting to becoming a Full Time Coach and how hard was it stepping into Luke Williams shoes, after what he achieved at Meadow Lane? How does he feel about some Fans wanting the Owners to get Rid of Him? Does he think he would have Benefitted from having a Experienced Director of Football with Footballing Knowledge helping him to learn how to better Man Mange Players.? He is Still on a Massive Learning Curve and if the Magpies don't get off to a Decent Start as the Season Opens and Pressure Mounts. Can Stuart Maynard Cope ?
  24. @CliftonMagpie I think they have a guy on board who used to voice Wallace in a Stage Show. Anh his impression of Peter Sallis was Spot On apparently.
  25. Have you ever come across the type of person, who for No apparent reason just starts talking to you? You don't know them nor they you. But they still start chatting. Well the other day I was in a urinal have a wee, when this bloke at the other end starts hacking and spitting making an awful row. He looks at me then says. I'll Tell You One Thing Youth. Those Pineapple Chunks Taste Bloody Horrible.
