So as I write this on the 26/08/18 Kevin Nolan has been sacked following a termination of his contract by the NCFC board following a 3-1 loss to Lincoln City. After around 18 months in charge it was with Mr. Hardy’s best interests to part ways with the ex- West Ham, Bolton and Newcastle midfielder. I am writing this article to understand the thought process behind his sacking, will we miss him? And is promotion still achievable? During Nolan’s time with the Magpies he managed 85 g

Fans were divided when Kevin Nolan was sacked as Notts County manager. Many fans believed he should have been given more time to turn things around at the club following a winless run of 6 games with many saying it is the players to blame as opposed to Nolan himself. But there were also fans suggesting it wasn't just the start of the season that was the tipping point it has been the clubs poor run of results since Christmas.  Kevin Nolan guided Notts County to the Play-Offs last season, onl

Over the years, we've had mixed experiences when it comes to management but Kevin Nolan and Alan Hardy look like being the real deal. Not only have they got a great connection with the fans but they also seem to have a great connection with each other. They both have an understanding of each other with Nolan setting out what he needs in terms of improving the squad and Hardy doing everything in his power to make that happen. From a fans perspective, this is great to see. Both a manager and

    1. Milton Keynes (C,P) - This may be an opinion divider but I just feel that MK have a slight edge over us and Lincoln. Paul Tisdale moves from Exeter and has bought Jordan Moore-Taylor, Ryan Harley and Robbie Simpson with him. Kieran Agard should provide goals up front and creativity will come from Alex Gilbey and Chuks Aneke. Jordan Houghton is a good signing in midfield. They have retained most of their squad and with good depth and quality in each position, I think this might be the year Tis

There are quite a few stand out games this coming week. From Saturdays fixtures I've chosen three from the top end of League Two – Leyton Orient at home to Northampton, Plymouth against Mansfield and Portsmouth versus Bristol Rovers. Then on Tuesday Oxford United host Northampton. I've also picked out three games on Saturday featuring teams playing catch up – Accrington, Carlisle and Hartlepool have all played only 26 games. They also play on Tuesday. Notts have on

At the moment automatic promotion would seem assured for the top three clubs; Northampton, Plymouth and Oxford, but it's very different for the chasing pack near the top of League Two and also uncertain for the teams at the bottom trying to avoid the drop. This week I've picked out four games that are important to teams in the promotion mix and the relegation struggle. Thanks to the away win at Hartlepool keeping the season going I've decided yet again to make bot

Northampton continue their seemingly inevitable march to League One but who will join them and what about the teams fighting to hold on to their Football League status? Once again the fixture list for Saturday and Tuesday has thrown up some interesting games, the results of which will help clarify how the final League Two table will look. This week I've highlighted five games from another busy week and probably for the last time this seaso

So this week I'm going through each game individually and the importance of each game will become apparent. Well, what a pleasure it is that, after last week’s awful performance, I am now commenting on a second consecutive away win for Notts under Jamie Fullarton’s leadership. Also this time by all accounts it was a thoroughly deserved win. Here are the League Two results for the weekend: Saturday 30th January 2016 Accrington 1–0 Bristol Rovers Wimbledon 2–3 Yeovil Crawley 0–1 Mansfield Dagenham &

Nothing much changes. Northampton win again, making it thirteen games unbeaten and Notts lose again making it six games since a win. It was different at Dagenham & Redbridge as their 1–0 win over York gave the Daggers their first home win since last April. Here are the League Two results for the weekend: Saturday 5th March 2016 Wimbledon 0–0 Accrington Barnet 1–3 Hartlepool Cambridge 0–1 Exeter Carlisle 1–4 Northampton Crawley 1–1 Morecambe Dagenham & Redbridge 1–0 York

Whichever goalkeeper you prefer, there is no doubt that Notts County have two very capable players in contention for the number 1 jersey in Adam Collin and Ross Fitzsimons, the debate on who should start has valid points for both keepers. However, I aim to explain the difference between the two and who I feel should be the first choice keeper for the Magpies. The knee injury to Collin during the 2-1 win over Barnet within League Two saw Fitzsimons step into the main role and during a h

Michael O’Connor for me was the standout signing at the start of the season. As a player, he looked to have all the right qualities that Notts would require. However, for the most part of this 2016/17 season, he has been nothing short of average. I believe the recruitment at the club at the time had identified a player very much capable of being a fan favourite. Whilst the decision to name O’Connor as the captain did seem to be a good call, I would say that in hindsight it has lum

There is a growing trend in English football which I feel highlights the flaws in youth progression. Many teams, from Premier League all the way down to League Two, tend to release promising young professionals only to re-sign them a few years later. It feels like the transition into first-team football is majorly flawed - perhaps due to too much pressure to produce good talent? We have seen this from the insane record-breaking transfer of Paul Pogba back to Manchester United, alo

Of all the players Notts County have within their squad, it’s often the youngsters who are referred to as being the key in order to survive the drop from League Two. In January, the club reinforced itself with the arrivals of Jorge Grant, Marc Bola, Josh Clackstone and Tahvon Campbell. However, it was the arrival of experienced veteran striker Shola Ameobi that captivated the fans' excitement the most. I value the experience that players of Ameobi’s quality bring.
