City's Stuart Maynard and Ollie Pearce win November leagu...
Good morning, it’s a new week and a new month, the weather is a lot cooler and light rain is forecast all day.
It’s a busy week for us as we prepare for our three week cruise, lots to do before we embark our cruise ship on Friday.
Have a great day everyone.

Now those are real supporters, @Michael D Pie.. All they need is a pie with their beers next time. Haha 😛
Thanks everyone, we’re on our second day at sea, it’s been rough through the channel and Bay of Biscay with 6 metre waves but nothing the ship couldn’t cope with. It’s calmed down now and the sun is out we’ve just left the BoB and now off the coast of Portugal. Just sending this with a one hour free internet. Lots of good food and entertainment to keep us busy. First stop Cartegena on Tuesday.
Does anyone else do the word game called wordle, I started doing it in lockdown now it’s part of my morning routine, I can’t get dressed until I’ve solved it. ????

His performance for Crawley Town last season and the goal which he scored at Meadow Lane, it was him at his best. I still feel a bit of resentment for the way he acted once he knew he wasn't going to be offered a deal by Notts. Good player, especially at this level and should do really well for Hartlepool United.
He was in and out of our squad during his final season, and personally I think he gave up.
I hope he serves Hartlepool well because I have a lot of respect for the club.
good player, decent turn of skill and pace. i prefer him as a striker than midfield but he has done well since leaving us.
@super_ram @Piethagoram @Ohh Tommy Johnson and anyone else.
Here’s another word game to tax your brain box. Swap the letters round to form words but you’ve only go so many tries.

Another MoM for Calvin Miller today - 1 goal, 1 assist in Falkirk's 0-3 away win at Dundee Utd. Falkirk up to 5th in the EPL. He's the reigning Scottish Championship Player of the Year and his career really seems to be taking off.

Wow, but he definitely earned it. With Falkirk he became one of the best creative players in the SPL
I was a big fan when he was at Notts and have followed him ever since. These days we're getting used to very youmg players making a splash at big clubs and at international football. Miller is a good example of a player slowly maturing over a number of years. His all round game has continued to improve and his physique is much more athletic than it was 6 years ago. He has had a superb time at Falkirk with goals and assists - averaging one goal involvement every two matches in 90 odd games. At the age of 28 he is a great catch for Hearts.
I didn't dream that he signed for Chesterfield after leaving us, correct? I thought he was very good when he played in the right position, very good at getting forward and skillful enough to take on players in a way that made them not want to dive in with challenges. He wasn't consistent, but he put a lot of effort into his performance and usually I felt he was let down by others not pulling their own weight around him.

Ollie Norburn: Oldham Athletic sign Notts County midfielder
Solid signing for them, I hope it works out for him and he has a successful season. It was a short-spell but he'll always be remembered fondly and we can actually now laugh about that boot throw, I was raging at the time, it's still the most ridiculous reason I think I've seen for picking up a second yellow card!
Having watched Oldham last season, they have someone who can do the dirty work that they didn't have previously and will have a no-no-nonsense midfielder that gets stuck in. I hope Oldham fans look forward to seeing him take on Chesterfield, and rekindling that Armando Dobra rivalry.
They should start chanting The Cranberries 'Zombie'.
Though changed to, "He's in your head, in your head, Drobra, Drobra, Drobra.. "Ollie Norburn, Ollie Norburn, Norburn, Norburn, Norburn..."
Hello, @Matt.
Welcome to the Pride of Nottingham! Please would you tell us a little bit about yourself? Such as how long you have supported Notts, favourite player and anything else you would wish to share?
It's great to have you with us; please bear in mind we have recently moved servers and are experiencing some problems these past two days, but don't let it put you off from getting involved. We are a friendly group, and just need fans to engage and share their thoughts; you will be made to feel welcome and at home here! See you around the site.
So it's the time when we are seeing movement in & out. Martin will need to work with the players remaining & the the new players & then decide who he will select for his starting eleven in the friendly matches.
We will see many changes during those matches of course, but looking at the squad as it is now which players will you pick for your starting eleven & you could also include the bench too.
As more players are recruited & others leaving, that starting eleven will change, so it will be interesting to see how people change their view as the squad changes up to the end of the transfer window.

11 hours ago, Robbie said: A week has gone by since Lewis Macari and Rod McDonald were offered contract extensions, but as yet there has been no updates. Should we be concerned?
I think so @Robbie, whenever a contract expires the player belongs to all 92 clubs as much as they do Notts.
Personally, I think they'll both sign. But to go straight on holiday, and let the agent see what's on the market seems fair to me.
How would it work from Notts' side? You can't bang the table and say sign now or else. But there has to be some kind of deadline for the sake of planning.
I wouldn't be too concerned about it - they're under contract until the end of June, so from their point of view there's no hurry. If they do intend to sign, the club will probably be aware of this already and will be planning accordingly.
I want them both to stay, but neither is irreplaceable.
21 hours ago, menzinho said: Now this is just based on my gut feeling but I’m expecting Lewis to stay. I think it's harder to sign for a club when you can't likely play for 5/6 months and miss pre-season which is a big part of getting new players onboard with style of play and what's required of you in your position.
Me too, but I have a slight doubt because there might be another Notts County out there.
By that I mean a club deep into analytics and on the look out for value in young, injured players.
In one of his interviews MP said that Macari was underrated. My hunch is that won't be by the data. I'd expect him to show very highly in the analytics as one of the best players in L2 last year. Number of passes, completed passes, ball control, interceptions etc.
(I just looked at Opta and Bedeau had the most completed passes in L2. I'd be pretty sure that Macari's per game stats were higher)
So there'd be a pull factor from other teams and also a push factor for Macari himself, who now has a top player to dislodge in his position. Gibbons would have the main counting stats for goals/assists, plus intangibles that got him into the team of the year, but I doubt he's a better pure footballer than Macari.
I hope Macari stays but I wouldn't be totally surprised if a club with resources (P'boro, Salford), that could absorb his injury situation, makes him an offer and the player agrees.
As some will know, I have experienced health concerns, and have been trying to lose weight for a number of years. My last visit to my local nurse led to me having an appointment with a nutritionist in person and she was wonderful. Some of her tips I had never known about, and as a result I do feel like I am losing weight. I still struggle to walk, that's expected but I can get around with help on bad days and mostly experience much nicer days. It's more my back pain that persists and makes me retreat to laying down; it's the worst pain I have ever felt in my life.
I can't compare it to any dislocation I have experienced, not even having dislocated both of my knees whilst at work because my line manager expected me to fully clean the back storage room, and move two indrusturial double fridge freezers to deep clean them and the walls behind (I wished I had requested to break it down throughout the week but the kitchen staff I worked with were horrible people).
Currently I am on a stricter diet, and have reduced the amount of pop that I drink. I had water prior but I did have a couple of cans a day of Tango and what I call Reggie Reggie Juice. I'm not back on mostly water, and a sugar-free apple Tango.
What about you? Are you on a diet? Do you enjoy fitness as a means to keep fit and healthy? What have you been doing recently?
Let's support each other, encourage changes that make an impact on each of our lives.
Body weight a struggle shared by probably a billion across the world. The challenge is normal @Chris
Yeah the pop has to go (one of my things was ‘no carbonated drinks’ and I haven’t had one (apart from my exception of a coke for a bad hangover ) for over 10 years now. I’m out now I’ll post more over the next few days
I sympathise with you @Chris, back pain is awful and often the only thing you can do is lose weight, which is not a quick fix.
The thing that helped me most was switching to water. I'd developed a habit of drinking apple juice with sparkling water, thinking it was healthy. I was consuming about 200 calories with each glass. Changing to sparkling water (with a squeeze of lemon when I was feeling wild) made a massive difference.
Counting calories really helped me. It made me aware of what I was consuming and how much leeway I had.
@StarkMallard Yes, I have been watching that Dr. Now show. He helps people lose weight, and the information is really helpful. Not that I am that big, but the calorie counting and intake is so vital to losing weight. I am guilty of thinking I am being healthier with a diet, when it still isn't all that much but then there's medication that doesn't help with side effects of weight gain.
Some good advice shared by you, I hope you are still trying to adapt to the healthier lifestyle. =)
I’ll word this very carefully in case I get accused of being negative. 😡
Are we in danger of losing our manager? I’ve seen speculation that Stockport are interested in appointing him, what is the length of his contract does anyone know?
Are the rumours credible? What do you think?

@theAnticlough absolutely spot on!
This 'model' works so well despite the naysayers - so pleased to see them proved wrong ... again!
Patto leaving? Yes of course if the famously silly offer came his way but Stockport isn't it.
Listening to his interviews he comes over has a really genuine guy, also very level headed and I am pretty certain knows where the grass is greenest.
Stockport have appointed Jimmy McNulty from Rochdale. Was expecting something different to be honest. I hope the rumours about MP continue to fly, as that means he's doing a good job!

I did wonder how long it will be before we get the Reedtz Brother derby aka Notts v Viborg. Maybe a chance for Patterson and the coaching team to see who they want from Viborg next! 😉
Viborg are better than Randers, they finished 5th after their league split and were just a point short of getting a Europa Conference League Qualifier. Randers finished 10th overall and were nearly relegated. I'd think both are better than us, I'd suggest it'll be like playing a mid-table Championship side and then a weaker one. It's only two matches and we'll have other pre-season matches at ML or elsewhere in the UK that are likely to be announced soon, hopefully we'll get good one at home.
Oh and please can make sure we’ve tripled checked Jatta’s visa this time! I can’t do another pre-season of him being allegedly unhappy because he’s missed the trips abroad!
Well I'm off to it using the pretext of missing the playoffs and needing my Notts fix. Just no-one mention to my partner about the many great coffee shops, bakeries and a nice beach jaunt if the weather is nice...
Tempted by this but Denmark is expensive! Went there for an England friendly in summer 2005, got a cheap flight to Hamburg then train and camped to keep costs down.
Matches concide with World Cup QFs and Semi-finals so anyone going make sure you've got access to a screen in case England do well!

As I've got older I prefer the white text against a black background. It's much easier to read and is less a strain on my eyes. The black text on a white background makes text harder to read. If there were an option to brighten the text, with added contrast that might improve it further
The headings option is similar as I've demonstrated here. This has more contrast & bolder. Is there a way to allow a member to opt for this or just a little less contrast, but to another member it appears normal text?
I usually have YouTube on during the day, but I am tired of it and I can't find myself interested in watching any films. So, lately I have been listening to YouTube Music.
Right now Bryan Adam's in on with Mel C - Baby When You're Gone (classic version).
Before that, Bon Jovi - Right Side of Wrong, The Feeling - Fill My Little World, and Phil Collins - Against All Odds (Take a Look at Me Now).
So, what is your go-to track? What are you listening to? How are you enjoying your music? Let's discuss and learn something new about each other.

i listen to the general radio more than certain artsists, the last song i played was sad, sad, sad by the rolling stones. before that, probably something of r e m.
@StarkMallard reminds me of a better eurovision song.
Can't stop listening to this New Order masterpiece this week - Vanishing Point
Sad song, but what an ending
''My life ain't no holiday
I've been through the point of no return
I've seen what the man can do
I've seen all the hate of a woman too
And they gave him away
Like in 'Whistle Down The Wind'
By the look on his face
He never gave in''
I have been listening a lot to "They Might be Giants".
I found out a few years ago that they sang some songs from my childhood. I didn't know these songs were by the band famous for the "You're not the boss of me" theme from Malcolm in the Middle.

Salford City have sacked Karl Robinson just one week after they failed to achieve promotion to League One.

I can imagine how unimpressed all Man United ex-pros would’ve been watching the final with Salford just playing direct balls into the channels hoping for the best, that style is alien to them. And it didn’t help their opposition (Martin Paterson’s black and white army) actually played patterns and worked the ball into good areas.
It does feel knee-jerk though because they were only a point short of going up automatically. Problem is they are so desperate to go up they’ve lost that ability to build and be patient. They’ve spent and wasted a lot of money at Salford, I'm quite glad in a way that they haven't been able to just pay their way up the leagues.
Losing £3m a season for 7 years....you should be going up on that financial backing. That incident with Jatta at their ground, poetic justice has been served
It's probably a good thing Karl Robinson has gone, I don't like him personally but he's better than Salford City for sure. Yet the guys as plastic as they come, someone will pay him good money and he'll take charge. Good manager, I don't like his attitude or twofaced nature but the guy seemed to deserve better.
I read David Beckham lips at half-time, when the cameras settled on him and I can tell he said "The second-half needs to be better, this isn't good enough". I commented at the time to Jake, that it seemed Karl was underpressure. I think the amount of money they spend is beyond a joke, I have no idea if they still have a documentary or if the class of 92 still doing anything of that likes for Salford City but the club isn't being run properly.
It doesn't matter how much money they have, or the person said to hold the majority share hold now.
It's the club that operates at the end of the day, and it needs to be as close to the net even as possible. I am well aware this isn't common in football, but they are throwing money and risking Salford. If they get bored, or the investers decide they no longer want to payroll an unsuccessful club who will cover the debts?

StarkM - interesting pic of Sid Owen. We’ve signed Rickaaaaay Butcher!
I’m really happy with the addition of Sanders, I think we’ve got 3 really good options in midfield and with one more likely there should be real competition in this area now. I think the main criticism of him when he first played in League 1 was that games could bypass him but going to a more physical side like Crewe has certainly helped develop this area of his game.
I do think we have finally found someone to push Matt Palmer, it’s felt like for years we’ve tried to find a similar player we’ve had Ed Francis, Curtis Edwards and Jack Hinchy but none of them quite had that desired impact. Max is very comfortable on the ball, gets forward well and has the ability to play accurate longer passes too.
Just on Matt Palmer, I thought he was really good first half of the season, he looked a different player. He was pressing really well, sharp in his tackling and was able to win turn-overs numerous times. Then he got injured and it hampered his second half of the season. I still think a fit and firing Matt Palmer has a lot to offer.
Agree with the consensus above - a good signing on the face of things.
With Norburn 33 Palmer 31, it's good to have a holding CM at 27 and I thought he interviewed very well
@menzinho agree on Palmer. The season was a strong bounceback from a poor season playing backwards and sideways in Maynard's scheme. I seem to say this most years, but I hope he passes on the armband now. The masterstroke at the end of the season was going Norburn-Robbo. There's something about Palmer leading us in clutch end-of-season games that seems to set the wrong tone for the team.

hes bouncing around rather than building and accepting jobs that seems based on name and the smallest hint of gaining a managerial role. i think he should have stayed and learned under wolves, if they still wanted him.
I would hope he settles into a role, but as far as his career goes I really don't care about him. He showed his colour when he ran off to FGR, and the best thing he did was to leave and take Michael Doyle with him. Two things Notts became better for having been done, no offense to Doyle but he hung around offering little as a player but he did help somewhat as an assistant. I wonder what he's doing since leaving Woking? Ian Burchnall won't last long in Scotland IMO.
With the regular season drawing to a close, my mind has already started wandering toward the summer window. Whether we manage to clinch promotion or find ourselves preparing for another go at League Two, the squad is going to need some surgery.
I wanted to open a thread to see where everyone else’s head is at regarding two things:
1. The Retained List:
We’ve got a few players with contracts winding down this June. Looking at the squad, there are some tough calls to make. Players who are out of contract:
Rod McDonald
Matty Platt
Ollie Norburn
Maz Khouyar
Keanan Bennetts
is there anyone you'd List for transfer?
and;
2. The "Wish List"
If the Reedtz brothers handed you the reins this summer, where are you spending/saving?
Personally, I think we still look thin at the back with the Platt/Macari injuries, and I’d love to see more creativity/goal threat behind Jatta to take the pressure off.
Who is on your radar? * Are there any standout players from our League Two rivals you’d like to poach?
Should we be looking at the National League again for those "hidden gems" we love so much?
I’m curious to see if anyone else has given it much thought!
COYP!

Haha that's all I've heard/read so far. I think it'll be a couple of "mutual terminations" next week, and then the fun can really begin!
I have been working on a stats application recently, so I decided to check the server records just to compare and I realised a lot of members visit using a phone. It seemed very few were actively using a desktop or laptop.
Mobiles - IOS, Android
Tablets - Ditto
Windows 10/11 - under them which I found interesting.
Does anyone else use a laptop? I haven't managed to use my desktop PC for awhile, though I found the chair my daughter gave me to be helpful with my back pain. I find it easier just to use a laptop, I seldomly use my phone. If you read, please join in and share what you feel comfortable with. It's nice to learn about members, and it's interesting because I have recently added a custom theme (not announced) 👀 and one of the downfalls about the mobile responsiveness is that they don't look all that much different on smaller devices.
I very rarely use my laptop to access PoN, it’s generally my iPhone or iPad, we have two iMac desktops but rarely use them for anything since we got a Apple MacBook Air laptop, we are all Apple in this house no Android at all. This is because where I worked when computers were first installed they were Apple so I’ve never known any different.
@Fan of Big Tone: The first real computer I used at school was an Apple PC, a very early version before Windows became popuplar. I enjoyed using its painting application.
I haven't used a Mac, but I do like how efficiant they are and how even the lower end specs still perform well.
Though, despite all these people claiming to jump on the Linux bandwagon just because Microsoft keeps adding thngs, and dropping the ball. I wouldn't switch because I feel comfortable with the OS. Everyone finds their own preference, so it's interesting to see your response.
I tend to read PON on my mobile (Android) and often post that way too, but I prefer to post on my laptop. I'm using the laptop now - it's still pretty new; it's almost doubled in price since I bought it in January, so I'm being very careful with it!
I use Windows 11. There's a lot of bloat, but it's user-friendly and does what it's supposed to. I've also switched from Chrome back to Firefox, which makes no discernable difference.
I did use Ubuntu (Linux) in the past when my old desktop PC was nearing its end, but I constantly encountered bits and bobs that didn't work quite right, and the solution was generally to go to a Linux forum and write something in the command line that had been suggested there. It can be pretty awkward if you don't have a basic understanding of programming.
You may (or may not) like this game, the idea is to connect words in a certain number of guesses. It can be frustrating because sometimes they throw in American things we don’t necessarily know.

Not sure I liked the guy. Particularly the video of his halftime team talk at Wembley which seemed to be playing to the cameras. (Salford obviously thought they would walk the game to have that set up at such a vutal moment)
Even so, 8th and 4th is a decent effort? Or with their cash have they under performed?
I find him quite unbearable, he was very smug and cocky when in charge of MK Dons. His fall to grace seems to have levelled him up a little, but he's amongst managers like Paul Cook. He seemed to be watching for ages after the final whistle, it panned to his face and he seemed lost in thought. I wonder if Salford did exactly as to what we did with Stuart Maynard.
Either way, he's going to find a new club and I doubt he will spend long out of the game. His stock worth due to Salford and MK Dons will put him in a favourable position for boards seeking a new appointment.

Notts County has Kept 15 clean sheets in their 48 matches overall this season across all competitions. That's 31% of the 48 matches played.
He’s certainly landed on his feet by ending up at York as he got himself one of the best clubs outside of the Football League. They were unlucky not to get promoted last season, their current squad is full of quality players for the level one them being the player of the month award winner Ollie Pearce. He's the best striker in that league and having scored 16 in 21 he could get close to Macca’s record!
On New Year's Day, Stuart Maynard's York City currently stand in 2nd place in the National League, They have only lost two of their 24 matches so far with 15 wins. They have scored 63 goals & conceded only 26. It's nice to see Stuart doing well.
A well deserved award for Stuart.
