There were certainly alarm bells ringing in my head four games into the season, with Notts County losing three and drawing one in all competitions. Go on, hands up if you thought Kyle Wootton would turn out to be this good when Notts County signed him on loan from a struggling League Two side at the end of August? Granted, one of the things fans have constantly complained about is the lack of a big, strong target man. A lot has been said during the period whereby Alan Smith was rumoured to be joining Plymouth Argyle, which I must admit I wasn’t all that bothered about. However, I do think Smith will be a great coach and someone ideal to have around as a backroom member of staff. It’s just hard to envision him playing week in and out for Notts, perhaps as a part player who can make an impact in the important games – whereby a little grit in midfield will help Notts in those tough matches?

Yesterday (19 March) Pride of Nottingham spoke about Notts County's 1994-95 Anglo-Italian Cup win over Ascoli at Wembley, which had taken place 23 years prior.
