Notts County's season continues to lurch from crisis to crisis with arguably the worst performance of the season - if not in recent years - against Cheltenham Town at Meadow Lane on Saturday. Following the impressive 4-2 win against Doncaster Rovers in the EFL Trophy, there was some scope for optimism as Steve Chettle took over as interim boss after Harry Kewell's sacking. But against the struggling Robins, it was anything but, as a dour first-half performance for both sides neverthele

Notts County's season continues to lurch from one crisis to another as the Magpies were humbled in a 4-0 loss at Barnsley in the first round of the FA Cup. Harry Kewell's side wasn't bad in the first half, hanging on to their clean sheet until the break. In the second minute they even got the ball into the back of the net, only for Rob Milsom's free kick to be chalked off for offside. However, it all went pear-shaped after the restart as Cauley Woodrow opened the scoring for the T

Notts County stunk out the whole of Meadow Lane on Tuesday with a dour performance against fellow League Two strugglers Oldham Athletic which was lucky to yield a point in a 0-0 draw. The visitors, who themselves are hardly impressing at the minute, weighed in with 19 efforts against Notts, six of which were on target, won nine corners and were overall dominant in the game. Indeed, County had Ross Fitzsimons to thank for keeping the Latics at bay, while Jamie Turley once again bailed h

Notts County fought from a goal down to lead at Port Vale only for a late Tom Pope equaliser to force the spoils to be shared in a 2-2 draw at Vale Park. The hosts led after 13 minutes when Luke Hannant guided his close-range header from Ben Whitfield's cross into the top-left corner of the net past Magpies goalkeeper Ross Fitzsimons. Kane Hemmings equalised after 22 minutes, reacting first to beat Vale goalkeeper Scott Brown from close range and turn Enzio Boldewijn's ball from the ri

Notts County wrapped up a miserable seven days with a third defeat on the trot, this time spurning a one-goal half-time lead against Swindon Town to eventually lose 2-1 at Meadow Lane. Last week, Bury thoroughly hammered the Magpies. On Tuesday, an undeserved red card for Jamie Turley led to MK Dons making the most of things and emerging victorious. But this time, Notts played impressively and had all the stats on their side, yet went on to lose anyway. Harry Kewell's side had a s

Notts County's five-game unbeaten run in League Two came to an abrupt end on Saturday as they fell to a humbling 4-0 defeat away at Bury. The Shakers were impressive from the off and took the lead on 11 minutes when Nicky Maynard slid in to convert Callum McFadzean's cross. Eight minutes later the hosts were two up as a low cross from Danny Mayor was not cleared by a static Magpies defence. The ball trickled into the path of Dominic Telford, who tapped home from three yards to lea

Notts County's dreadful start to the season now feels an age away. Three wins in a row and five games unbeaten now has the Magpies up in 17th place in the League Two table, four points clear of the bottom two, a superb turnaround given they were bottom of the table on just one point a month ago. The latest victory is also County's first win away from home this season as Macclesfield Town, themselves still struggling and currently at the foot of the league, were beaten 1-0 at Moss Rose.

Notts County now sit 17th in the League two table, six places above relegation, maintaining their unbeaten record after their third win this season, which ended 1-0 against Macclesfield Town on Saturday 6th October. Macclesfield had three shots on goal, along with the Magpies also having three shots but they were all blocked. The match remained goalless at half time. In the second half County's Jon Stead, Enzio Boldewijn, Nathan Thomas had a shot on goal and Macclesfield's Scott Wilson

Was the result fair? I think a draw would have been the fairer result for the two teams, however at the same time I feel Notts should have had not just the one penalty that Jon Stead scored but another for the foul on him that resulted in Jon being hurled into the advertising board. How did Notts play? Very poor, they had no real movement and only two or three players were on the same wavelength – this would always make getting a result harder. I just felt like Notts played to tak

Following the 2-1 win over Crewe Alexandra at the weekend, Notts County followed it up with an even more impressive 3-1 victory over Harry Kewell's former employers Crawley Town. Kane Hemmings and Jon Stead had the Magpies two up at half-time, even though the Red Devils arguably enjoyed quite a bit of good play and had their chances. Although Rob Milsom - incidentally on loan from the opposition - was sent off 66 minutes for a late lunge, substitute Nathan Thomas added a third goal to

The Notts County revival is well and truly on. After a shocking start to the season where the Magpies looked unfit for purpose in League Two, Harry Kewell's last four games have now yielded eight points in the shape of two wins and two draws. Following the 2-1 win over Crewe Alexandra at the weekend, Notts followed it up with an even more impressive 3-1 win over Kewell's former employers Crawley Town, a feat made more remarkable by the fact they finished the game with 10 men. The Magpies were ahead 5 minutes into the game as Rob Milsom scored the first goal assisted by Kane Hemmings and Jon Stead. Crewe, however, equalised with a goal from Jordan Bowery in the 14th minute as the first half ended 1-1. Lewis Alessandra and Elliott Hewitt had shots on goal in the second half but one was

Notts County finally claimed their first win of the 2018-19 campaign, with Crewe Alexandra beaten 2-1 at Meadow Lane. It's been an anxious start to the season for the Magpies, who looked well out of sorts for much of their early games and found themselves at the bottom of the League Two table not long ago. But with Harry Kewell at the helm after Kevin Nolan's departure, two consecutive draws have been followed up by the first three-point haul of the campaign. The Magpies began bri

Notts County sit 23rd in the League Two table, now just above Macclesfield Town, after drawing 0-0 against Northampton Town away on Saturday. Ross Fitzsimons saved a shot from Northampton's Matt Crooks leaving the first half goalless, though the Cobblers seemingly had better chances on ball in the first 45 minutes. The second half kicked off with a bit more pace and the Magpies' Lewis Alessandra had a shot on goal along with Northampton's David Buchanan. Also in the second half Ka
