  1. Luke Williams said he got his team back today and I agree with him. We started ok, dealt with Grimsby’s press better than Sutton’s (first goal aside). I thought we dominated the first half, but at the same time until the latter stages we didn’t create much. Once we scored, we grew in confidence and I thought we'd see another goal, not for Grimsby though! Really frustrating to go in at HT 2-1 down yes it was a good ball over for their second but the awareness and reactions from our defenders has to be a lot better. Pleased that we started the second half really positively and got the goals quite quickly. A great header from Crowley who looked really quality on the ball at times today. And then we saw the game out pretty comfortably. Still think we’re a defender short, given it was makeshift back three right at the end. I was impressed with Brinds in the middle of the three but that game suited him against the smaller attackers like Rose and Eisa. Not sure I’d have felt confident with him against a big ol’ unit striker. Apparently, Fisher was in the stands, just curious or potentially signing? Who knows but I’m not sure we actually need him. I’d rather see a player like Debrah personally. Great to get a home win at the first time of asking, I feel reassured that with these players we can compete at this level.
  2. I'd go with @Ohh Tommy Johnson's team too. I'd back those 12 to beat Grimsby's 11! ???? Grimsby are yet to score so that gives me a bit of hope going into this game. Hopefully we can avoid a hat-trick of red cards.
  3. Terrible news, I was hopeful it wouldn't be too bad as he was able to walk back around to the tunnel. If the recovery goes well maybe we'll see him back before the end of the season, I hope so anyway.
  4. Jamie Forrester, I did have to check but I knew he'd played for numerous clubs before us and Grimsby was one of them.
  5. Maybe the Mullin injury is more serious than they imagined, why would you spend a big chunk of money to replace someone for a month or two otherwise? He’s a great player for them but that’s what squads are for, would be a real vote of no confidence to the likes of Dalby and Waters if they sign someone for a month and then Mullin is back!
  6. Colombia on Saturday now, having already beaten Germany they certainly won't be fearing us. Having watched a bit of them I'd expect they'll approach the game similarly to Nigeria, they'll be physical against us and try and take the ball off us with a press. Lauren James will be a big miss, scored some cracking goals already, but there are some good replacements in the likes of Toone or England.
  7. I get what you’re saying but I’m sure deep down if we won 3-0 and convincingly, you’ll be happy and it’ll help ease some nerves about the season ahead. I actually want to see a reaction, prove Saturday was a one off and go and show everyone what they’re really capable of. I’ll be more annoyed if we lose and concede 4 or 5 again.
  8. A 4-year extension, woo-hoo! I will be amazed if he’s still here in 2027 but I guess it’ll have upped his release fee as well as his wages. A little sweetener after the result at the weekend. Also Scott’s deal is up at the end of the year, get that one as the Xmas present as per Palmer last season!
  9. Yeah, I wasn’t as confident as some and by no means did I think we’d stroll to victory but at the same time I didn’t think we’d get thumped. No way off dressing that up, it sounded awful. Conceding so early seemed to set the tone and then having Stone sent off effectively killed the game for us, awful back pass that put him a terrible situation by all accounts, but then it’s 75 mins of 10 v 11. At least we scored a goal...
  10. So the club have now released the news about the subscriptions they are offering, I’ve no issue paying for streams, but charging for commentary that is free on BBC Radio Nottingham is scandalous. I can listen to BBC Radio Notts all week on BBC sounds but suddenly during a match I’m not allowed. I’ve moved too far away from Notts so I can no longer pick up the radio frequency. I’ll probably have to subscribe to the audio package as I’m not able to get to as many games as I like.
  11. Anyone else think the time since that Wembley win has flown by? Pre-season done and now we’re ready to start all over again, I’m not complaining and really looking forward to it! I’d expect Stone to start in goal given he had the most playing time and was fully fit over pre-season. I’m guessing formation wise we’ll start as we finished in some from of 3-4-2-1. The defence, in terms of the back three, feels like it picks itself at the moment. It isn’t the ideal start the season but given Aden’s minor injury I’d expect to see Brindley, Rawlinson and Cameron. Wingbacks I think will be the tried and tested duo from last season. In midfield O’Brien has got to be in with a shout to start, I think he’s had a solid pre-season but the temptation to get more control with Bostock and Palmer will probably be too great. If Macca’s fit he’s got to start for me, and I’d have McGoldrick and Austin as his support. We’ve got so much quality up top though; could have the likes of Scott, Jones, Randall and Crowley on the bench. Amazing options, proper game changers. Our games against Sutton have always been close, I’d expect Saturday’s game to carry on that trend but I’m hoping the buzz from last season carries over and we get a winning start!
  12. One of the bonuses to holding an open training session is that you can’t hide the trialists! That’s if he is one… I’m inclined to agree with @Chris that we are doing him a favour allowing him to train with us. He’ll have been on very good wages at Middlesbrough, we won't be able to offer anywhere near that if he were to join us. Seem to vaguely remember watching him on TV when he was at Middlesbrough, the extent of my knowledge is that he’s quick. He’s had his injury problems though was out for nearly 2 years with a knee injury that was described as a “freak accident”. I wonder if an injury that was obviously very serious will ever heal properly?
  13. Great for all the overseas followers, works out a €3.60 per game which is good value. Just out of interest why do the club have an audio pass? Is this just a cheaper option because BBC radio is not available abroad? I’m assuming I’ll be able to listen to the match day commentary on BBC Sounds/internet stream...
  14. I agree you can't beat playing proper competitive football, I know they'd lose the coaching from Luke and co but what they'll gain from being a proper first-teamer will be more valuable in the long-run. Get them both loaned out!
  15. Alex Rodman, after a pretty uninspiring half a season with us he got a move up to League 1 Shrewsbury Town. Must have had a good agent ????
  16. I don’t really have any ill-will towards him, I get why he left, I think the timing of the move is what irked people and I totally get it. I think had he left a couple of weeks after the season there would’ve been less animosity. Given how close the talks were around the play-off campaign he’d probably still have joined FGR had we won promotion. That too me would have been very strange. Anyway, we got Luke Williams because of the move so I'm not complaining! Just in terms of coaching abroad I do think he’s a good example to young coaches who can’t get the roles they want in this country. Maybe with families it’s harder for some but it makes me laugh how some of these ex-Premier League players think a National League club is beneath them and they should be getting a Championship club on name alone.
  17. Best Signing: David McGoldrick Highest Goal Scorer: Maccauly Langstaff Most Improved Player of the Season: Jodi Jones Most Starts in the Season: Kyle Cameron Best partnership between two players: Dan Crowley & Aaron Nemane I’m not dissing Jodi either, I just think as he’ll have had proper pre-season and will probably play in a more attacking role we’ll see an even better player.
  18. Montel Gibson, a striker who came through our academy and had a couple of appearances before being released. Now plays for Telford I believe.
  19. Yeah that Liverpool game is a very good shout, I’m sure it was a school night and my parents made me go to bed so I didn’t see the whole game! Agree with some others mentioned too, the Liverpool 4-0 comeback against Barcelona was impressive as was the Sheffield Wednesday play-off comeback from this season. But in terms of one-off games, the Man City v QPR final day of the season sticks out for me. They had to win in order to win the league but were up 2-1 down with 30 mins to go. It took until added time to score both goals (one being the Aguuuuerrrrroooooooooooo one!) to win the game. In terms of a Notts game the Boreham Wood one was the ultimate comeback for me. Another Notts comeback in recent(ish) memory was against Exeter, we scored 2 goals in added time to snatch a draw. Anyone remember it? I looked back to see when the goals were scored and it was Ryan Harley of all people who scored Exeter’s 2nd in the 88th minute!
  20. Hopefully the club will have received some feedback after the game about the levels. If not, I'll take my earplugs for the first home game of the season!
  21. How's the new PA system sounding? Plenty of goal announcements! ????????
  22. Good move him, he's at an age now where he needs all the game time he can get (if he's not going to get it with us). I've got high hopes for him in the future, he looks very promising for someone so young. I'm sure he'll do well there. And the season ends in November in Ireland, so there's potential for another loan in January too if his game time will be limited again.
  23. I was so confident we’d get the cricket team treatment where they'd tie the sponsorship in to fit with the shirt. Nope, just plaster it across the front. I’ve seen some fans say it makes the shirt look cheap and sadly I have to agree, it’s a shame as I like the stripes this year. I know sponsors want to stand out but cos the shirt has almost no colour it's too overriding. No idea if JPA said that’s how they wanted it but would it have been difficult to get them to agree to something like this? As for the away shirt if it’s a bit of a homage to Italy go a bit further and give it a green, white and red trim maybe, personally I want a bit more from it. Love the colour but it’s another very plain away shirt again.
  24. Yeah stupid changes in my opinion. A penalty heavily favours the taker you can’t expect a keeper just to stand there like a spectator. The recent rule change about staying on your line is fair, but there’s so much ambiguity in “unfairly distract the taker” are they going to provide list of what’s allowed and what isn’t? A big thumbs down from me.
  25. That picture really is a teaser, doesn't give much away at all. I'm not worried about the red, purposely show that bit first so the fans think the worst and then get all the plaudits when the John Pye text colour on the front matches our badge or is black/white! They altered their colours for the cricket shirts to tie-in so I'm sure they've done it with us too... ????????
