Match Discussion: Game 26 - The Stags (H)
I'm very encouraged. You can't overstate the importance of tightening up at the back. Keep a clean sheet and you've got a point at least.

Match Discussion: Game 25 - The Shrimps (A)
Is anyone going to this? Making a weekend of it? Morecambe used to be one of the largest resorts in the country with a series of grand hotels and two grand piers. The piers are now gone and few of the hotels remain. This is a massively significant match for a number of reasons. Morecambe are also struggling, so three points on Saturday could be precious come the end of the season. On top of that, it will be an early indicator of how the team will react to John Sheridan's departure and is also the final match before Alan Hardy's takeover is formally completed.

John Thompson: 'Notts can reach Championship if Alan Hardy is able to take them forward'
Can we please stop talking about the Championship? Let's consolidate first and then think about League One again when we're strong enough. But I agree that we need to get people enthusiastic again.

John Sheridan: "I will work my socks off" to get Notts County promoted
I don't doubt that he works hard, but can we stop talking about promotion for a while? We're 15th for Pete's sake. Let's get to 50 points first, and if there's enough time left over to reach 70 maybe we can start talking about it again.

John Sheridan reiterates importance of good Notts County home form
We've been rubbish at home for years and years. Even in our better seasons it's our away form that has stood out, and the pattern has continued so far this season too. No matter who the manager and players are, or what the style of play is, it's always the same. Wonder why this is?

How do you define a first team player? Surely any member of the first team squad is a potential part of the first 11.

Notts Joe: Thoughts on Notts County's start to the season
How good is it to see us in the top half of the table? I hope it's a feeling we can get used to.

Match Discussion: Game 4 - Monkey Hangers (A)
Good result, I feared the worst when we went 1-0 down. Going by the highlights Hartlepool certainly had their chances to go further in front, but the comeback shows character and will hopefully boost confidence. I'm massively relieved. Now it'd be good to see us get our first home win and Forte break his duck for the season.

Allardyce set for England job
The FA are set to appoint former Notts boss Sam Allardyce as the new England manager today. He will be given a two-year contract. Allardyce made a name for himself as a bruising centre half in the 70s and 80s, turning out for a host of clubs including Bolton and Preston. But the news will be of particular interest to Notts fans due to his spell in charge of the Magpies; Allardyce joined the club in early 1997 with the team in dire straits at the bottom of what is now League One. He was unable to turn our fortunes around in that first season, as Notts finished rock bottom. We bounced back the following season though, finishing as champions with 99 points and securing the championship in March. Allardyce left the club for Bolton in acrimonious circumstances in October 1999 amid rumours of a breakdown in the relationship between him and chairman Derek Pavis. Notts were third in League One at the time. Allardyce has since become part of the furniture at the top level, managing 467 Premier League games. Although his trophy cabinet is relatively bare, he has become well-known as a good man manager. He will become the first former Notts manager to manage England on a permanent basis.

Ray Trew to withdraw sale of Notts County if buyer not found by end of June
Colour me surprised! Derek Pavis had the club "on the market" for years without finding a buyer. He even had talks with Reg Brearley! So the idea that RT was fighting off serious bids from all over the world always seemed a little fanciful. As for taking the club off the market, surely he will listen if a good offer does come in. Ray Trew's vision should be to take care of the finances and otherwise stay in the background and let John Sheridan do his job.

Notts County to prise 'unhappy' Paul Hurst from Grimsby?
I'm not sold on Hurst, but I'd prefer him to some of the other names mentioned. I was a bit puzzled as to why some Grimsby fans are negative towards PH, so I did some research on their forum. The best I could find is that he's dour, doesn't come over well in interviews, doesn't appear passionate (who cares? We want a manager not a performing chimp) and that the team was "limping into the play-offs" (how awful for them). It reminded me of some of the criticism of Keith Curle back when we had a team that would absolutely wipe the floor with the one we have today. Blair Adams: 'Uncertainty around Notts County crept into our performances'
Yep, the players had the WHOLE of last season to prove they are better than this and make amends to the fans. They didn't, and no amount of nice words to the press will make up for it.

Richard Dryden pulls no punches on "abysmal" and "heartbreaking" Notts County season
While RD is bang on with his comments, we've been reading similar comments from various players and managers for quite some time but nothing changed. It's too late now. Next season I want to see a well-organised and motivated team. The club, management and players owe us something.

Notts County's Finest: Jimmy & Jack Statue Work Begins Outside Meadow Lane
Excellent stuff. However, am I alone in thinking that there's something a bit depressing about unveiling a statue to two club legends, and then watching the current side in "action"? Hopefully Jimmy and Jack's likenesses will see better seasons than this one.

Match Discussion: Game 45 - The Exiles (A)
A dour 1-1 draw is my prediction. Notts play the second half with ten men after the recalled Roy Carroll headbutts the tea lady at half time.
