  1. Really happy with both of these signings. For two reasons, it shows that we are going to play more attacking next season. Also we are changing our style of play. Props to Nolan and Hardy for investing and providing quality players to use and utilise next season.
  2. Maybe a nice impact sub to bring on at around 70mins to run rings around tired defences but can't see this being a first team signing.
  3. Brilliant news! Finally bringing some youth into the squad.
  4. I thought Curtis Thompson could've done with another long loan spell maybe at National League. This meant that we could have properly evaluated what type of skill level he was at. Instead we have bunged him off. Anyway apart from that I am happy with the retained list but all players that have been released should be proud of themselves and their achievements at Notts County.
  5. Shame, player had a lot of pace and flair. Never really given a chance. Can maybe seeing him moving onto a team like Port Vale / Chesterfield. Good Luck in the future Liam!
  6. So after what seemed like a good Christmas period, it seems that Notts County have gone into switch off mode ever since. We set off the year with a positive result against Port Vale winning 1-0 at home. We then went on to proceed to the 4th round of the FA Cup against Swansea City after a sublime strike from Jon Stead against Brentford put us into the pot for the next round. With morale seeming to be at an all time high at Meadow Lane and coming into the new year with bags of confidence, it didn’t seem like anything could stop Notts. So where did it start to go wrong? Well, we ended our unbeaten home record against Exeter City who quite frankly couldn’t buy an away win at the time of beating us. That put a real gloom over Meadow Lane and I think it hit the players hard that we are still beatable at home and we should not let standards drop. However that message clearly didn’t get through. Outrageous behaviour from Ross Fitzsimons 3 days later, to put it straight, cost us two points. Crawley were a good side in form and having a point from that match looked like a good result. So after 2 consecutive defeats at Meadow Lane and sickness from Matt Tootle I think the players and manager were knocked down a few pegs. We then won 4-1 in front of a record home crowd against Crewe Alexandra, which was such a positive performance I think everyone left that game with a smile on their faces. Then... an embarrassing display of football saw us lose 8-1 to Swansea and then lose to Barnet who are bottom of the league 1-0. This was the confirmation fans needed to know that County were officially in a slump. Although Tuesday brought about a 2-1 win over Carlisle United, the performance nonetheless left question marks and doubts remain going forward. How do we fix it? So our next 3 fixtures are as follows: Newport County vs Notts County Cambridge United vs Notts County Notts County vs Stevenage So out of these next three games, if we are still serious about promotion we need to be looking at 6 points out of a possible 9. In my opinion we should be looking at wins across the board, excluding Newport which look a real unit at the moment, especially at home. Cambridge are currently without a manager and by the time we play them I think it will still take time for their players and manager to gel. As for Stevenage, well they are a bang average mid-table team. We need to pick up points now, as we enter a vital period for a promotion push. Who can we rely on? This is bound to spark a debate in the comments but this is my personal opinion of who I think is going to be crucial in the run up the end of the season. Mason Bennett – I know he got injured at Barnet but I would hope we could see him back fit for the start of March even for the Stevenage game if we’re lucky. His pace is frightening for League Two defenders top cope with and I think him and Jorge Grant could be a real threat and kill off games early which is what we need to do. Matt Tootle – He can defend and attack and can always mark a striker with pace. He puts in 100% effort and can really change a game and flip it on its head. His quality in defence in attack can help link up play in areas we could maybe use to our advantage. Noor Husin – Well this lad is superb, his passing ability is amazing in my opinion and his work rate is fantastic. I think Husin, Grant and Bennett could really work well together and for a young prospect he has some real talent and could possibly go on to be a class midfielder. His cutting edge passes and long shots could be something Nolan looks to take advantage of. After being away from the site for a while due to work I am keen to get back in touch with PON members and create more content to get a response from fans and see what they think. The question I want to ask you PON members is, Who do you think can turn this slump around? Let me know in the comments below and I hope to be writing another piece soon. 7. Finally can get out of this competition and focus on the league something that actually matters.
  8. Personally after a tonking from Cheltenham and Steve Evans being sent to the stands i think the pressure is really starting to mount on their team after failing expectations by ownership and fans for the start of the season. Both team beat Lincoln so it will be a real test for both sides. Mansfield will be looking for 3pts no questions asked but i think Nolan would like a draw after a heavy round of fixtures recently. I think this will end up 2-2 (Grant, Stead).
  9. Looks like a team that scores a lot of goals. A clean sheet might be off the cards here. Being at home there going to be really fired up for this to take back top spot.
  10. Not that this is a bad thing at all but i can only see a loss here. I like to be optimistic but lets look at this game. A Tuesday night game in Devon against 2nd in the league who are unbeaten at home this season. We're going to have a real test on our hands, i think itll be a close game but with support unbalanced as i imagine little Notts fans will travel down for this game. I can see this ending up 2-1 Exeter. I hope im wrong though.
  11. Thought first 25 mins or so was all Lincoln but we defended well and looked to be soaking in the pressure and not letting the event get away with us. Then we went 1-0 which helped the morale and atmosphere going into the dressing room. Poor defending for their goal but the players came back with a winning mentality in the second half. 4-1 was actually a respectable result considering they were down to 10 men. Lincoln shouldn't be disheartened by this scoreline ad we are on the up and were playing some class football at times. They were down to 10 men which means sticking Matt Green up top and just playing long balls would never work as Nolan would just stick 2 defenders on him so was near on useless second half. Good result, great attendance, COYP!
  12. Delroy Facey thats a name to remember haha. Matt Green is always so hyped up so hopefully see how he plays compared to our strikers since he was played down very quickly in the transfer window by us. Good write up Chris, love content like this!
  13. I do think he deserves the place over Yates, we have to remember Yates isn't the future of Notts County and will most likely move on. Milsom has the potential to sign a new contract at the end of the year. However he needs to be putting in real hard work to cement his place in the team and not just winging it.
  14. Players that put the work in training get the space simple as. I like what hes doing with the selection process and can see why everyone is getting their opportunity. The thing some of the players now have to realise is that they're no longer 'First Team' they have to understand there more 'Squad Rotation' or 'Impact Sub'.
  15. I will have Port Vale to go down now. Very poor side with a poor board looking at that decision.
  16. By the sounds of what he is saying and what i am reading, i think we have a solid 3 year plan involved here. I think what they want to achieve is double back promotion. Possible but highly unlikely in my opinion. However i admire the ambition set by Hardy and all staff at Meadow Lane and hope that the results keep coming in for the Magpies and we can cement our place in higher league football.
  17. I think this will be a good test for the desire and determination of the team. How will we perform in derbies etc? I think Hawkridge will definitely play due to it being his old club. I cans see us rocking a 4-4-2 Collin / Jones - Hewitt - Duffy - Tootle / Hawkridge - Yates - Grant - Alessandra / Forte - Stead Must be careful of Matt Green as i believe his suspension is up now and hes a class act in front of goal. Lincoln have real fight and determination and will be looking to make 3 points on Saturday i think to mount the pressure in the play off area. Real tough call so ill say 1-1 as i cant split the two sides.
  18. 2nd in the league, 4 clean sheets in a row. Is this Notts County we're talking about or? Sounds silly but as soon as we reach safety points we can start to re-evaluate our objectives and goals for the season.
  19. Good report Chris! Good to see things like this because if they play different against Notts then it shows how team will approach Notts County as a fixture.
  20. @ARLukomski Good write up and i agree with you. He brings something different to the table but ... i think Stead just has that touch of class over him. Stead is a good hold up striker and is a better finisher. Pace does frighten defenders though, so with Ameobi being out hopefully he can make his mark as a 90min player but he has to impress in this short stint of an injury for Shola.
  21. Ill go for the following lineup: Collin / Jones - Brisley - Duffy - Tootle / Hawkridge - Yates - Grant - Alessandra / Stead - Forte Hope we can keep this form going and I think at the moment teams will fear us so im going for an optimistic 3-0 win.
  22. I understand KN has to be a manager and firm with the players but i knew this would be a problem. It must be hard for the likes of Walker and Milsom to see Ryan Yates a loanee player being the first on the team sheet most weeks.
  23. Good write up! I thought it was a very even game they had more chances but our chances were better chance IMO. Happy that this form is continuing! Nolan has the dressing room on lock down.
