Just to go back to the point of where Labour need to win... apologies for sharing from the Torygraph and it’s behind a paywall, but the first few paragraphs are available, and says it all... https://www.telegraph.co.uk/politics/2018/09/26/terrifying-truth-middle-england-falling-corbynomics/ Regards the localised funding regional investment banks. Yep, they will need heavy funding, but let’s not forget the lies the country has been sold over the past few years. Benefit fraud for example. Everyone believes on clamping down on it. Everyone knows it exists. What most don’t realise is that just because the scum newspaper and channel 5 make a tv programme about it, doesn’t make it a massive financial drain. In fact less than 2% of the hard budget goes on this. Now compare this to lost taxes from multinationals who could make up 85% of the total hmrc income. Bringing it back to Brexit...It could well be a coincidence that the EU are aiming to clamp down on tax avoidance of major firms in 2019. Just around the time the Tories want us to leave the EU... also a coincidence that at the Tory conference the most visited stall in their rather small exhibition hall is the one offering services from the Caymen Islands...says a lot really.

SNP have seen a massive drop in popularity over the past 12 months and continue to slide and the Tories won't pull Scotland in, but polls can be argued until the cows come home. National Rail is part of the issue and needs new direction as part of the renationalisation programme. It has been left to fester imo and is often a reason for issue so Labour will overhaul the whole system from track to train. I honestly don't know enough about the Hinkley Point deal so rather than bluster, I'll take a look when I get the chance. Not a politicians answer I know, but I prefer to not bs around issues. Regional investment banks...You are slightly wrong with the interpretation of their purpose. Yes they will enable small businesses to lend, but more importantly they will offer good finance to other agencies that are currently ham strung. EG Councils. They have a few loan schemes available to them, but the current rules imposed down mean that they're not a good choice. Regional banks will encourage inward growth and promotion. The Preston model is a great example. With a local regional investment bank behind them, they could take that model national and finally see job growth based on local investment rather than PFI or multi-nationals. Localised knowledgeable finance to support local businesses as well as offer central funding streams for local government to invest locally in projects that have been shelved for the long term due to Austerity. And the investment pots for the regional IB were costed in the last manifesto. As was every other policy. The only party with a fully funded and OBR agreement that it was all correct and ready to work in Government. Don't think the OBR agreed with any other and definitely sure the 120 billion for the dup was funded and costed. Neither is the 120 million for a sodding Brexit Party!!!!!!!!! Still not seeing the 'Marxist' policies. Not goading mate, just that when people get to the nitty gritty of policies the headlines such as Comrade Commie Corbyn usually fall away. There will always be some elements that some disagree with. That' s why a manifesto and policy document is an evolving document. The core principals such as NHS free from cradle to grave and the same with education aren't marxist...They're desperately needed.

Just a couple of points... Firstly, to win in ‘middle England’ would be great, it is not needed anymore. That’s the Tory papers talking. In actual fact Labour need to retake traditional seats such as Mansfield. That and Scotland. Trust me, Scotland is the main battleground and if Labour win back seats there then it will make up the next government. Back on the Brexit vote, you give JC too much credit. As a party the NEC of Labour decide policy so individual views are irrelevant until in the room with 30 others. Yes he is pro Brexit, but the NEC recognised the pull towards a ‘peoples’ vote And a second referendum and that’s why the Brexit composite was formed last week at conference. All options in the table, including remain. First port of call is a general election though. Which policies do you feel are too left? Off the main topic I know, but interested as people say that and then don’t back it up as a left policy, just something they don’t agree with. I personally don’t see taxing the top 5% to fund the nhs, or clamping down on tax evasion to ensure we have universal childcare for 2-4 year olds as Marxist. Nationalisation has been proven to work in a modern setting with the East coast railway when it was run in house a few years ago, and by contrast the rest of the franchises are failing miserably. Remember when you pay your water bill 85% of the money you pay goes abroad in dividend whilst the bills go up and leakages increase to the point they could supply most of England on their own! If being on the side of workers by allowing them 10% share holding to have a voice is Marxist then so be it. If banning zero hour contracts. Investment banks to allow local small businesses to flourish and local councils to build council houses again so people have a home to call their own... The list seems sensible so far to me!

Firstly, Brexit is not a party issue as such. Neither the Tories or Labour have a party line on it because, well, it’s so split! I think the resolution at conference this week lays down a clear path. in answer to the question regards the usual “where’s the cash coming from” Let’s remember at the last election Labours mane fest was totally costed and approved by the OBR. The only one out of all 3 to be costed and approved. Like it or not, the top earners are going to have to shoulder the weight a little to allow the country to prosper. It’s not right that the 5th richest country in the world sees Nurses going to food banks whilst at the same time tax avoidance is rampant in the higher earners and the Tory Cabel sweat the cash cow that is the British economy. Regional investment banks would be there to stop just that and offer ways out to local people. Tax ‘em to make it fairer. Wealth distribution is fatally flawred at the moment. Needs a radical approach so our towns can prosper again.

Something to look forward to then!
  6. Feral Fox replied to Feral Fox's topic in Politics
Agreed. Mistakes were made by Labour last time round. But as you say, the rise in food banks and the ridiculous number in child poverty etc... the country needs a change. Sooner rather than later.

I think a general election is in the air and then another referendum. Can’t see any other choice to be fair. It’s well known now the 52% that voted out has declined to around 37% now we are in the middle of the process and a lot regret their vote choice. Tories have royally stuffed it up! (Not saying anyone else including Labour, could have done a better job though. Lose, lose.) Reality is sinking in a little now. And from an Irish Republican viewpoint, if nothing else, Brexit, or at least the current fear of it, has brought Ireland so much closer to being united! The divide over there has dismissed so much now if the choice of a united Ireland ???????? went to the vote, it would probably go through. The island of Ireland has come a long way in the past thirty years.
  8. Apart from the ten minute spurt, we were totally rubbish. Again. I stopped myself coming on here when I got in to avoid knee jerk reactions, but after reflection, it was that bad! Harry Kewell, what have you let yourself in for!?! New keeper. New left back. New centre back. All from free transfers! Soem seriously disappointing lack of effort today. It was funny watching Kewell in the stands though. He might as well walked down and sat on the bench. Probably best not to though so today could be claimed as nothing to do with him!
  9. The only real value in appointing Kewell is the fact that he likes attacking football and has a years experience in the league, so should have some Ida of players. Problem is we aren’t going to get first teamers that he will have seen, we will be looking at those out of luck or favour on the edges.
  10. Agreed. The refusal to play Forte swings me towards the 'good decision' overall. Playing croonies such as Duffy isn't the way forward. I get loyalty, but I prefer skill and form to be at the top of the list.
  11. I couldn’t keep in touch as much today due to travelling home apart from radio 5 live, which happened to have a reporter at Lincoln! Sounded from the brief bits, that basically we were stuffed. Sat back and had 0 % passion for the game. I listened to the Nolan interview when I got in and, frankly, he seems a broken man. Apart from Moniz a few years ago, I’m not one to call for pulling the trigger on a manager without 100% cause eg Fullofit. But honestly, if that is how he is coming across in the dressing room, then if it doesn’t improve and very soon, then I think the majority will turn against him. I think we miss Alan Smith, Mike Edwards and Shola if I’m honest. The influence in the club is missing and now Nolan is the clear voice, I think issues are arising. The sort of off field experience they brought to the table is sorely missing now. Gutted with another defeat. Gutted with another poor performance where it seems most couldn’t care less.
  12. Unfortunately I can see total capitulation from us here. Won’t be pretty! If they score first then we are done for and the rot really will set in. lets hope for a fight back.
  13. First team tipped for winning promotion and getting relegated instead? Getting drastically worrying now.

Superb answer @Elite_pie This sums up the whole farce from beginning to end. Especially the part about future generations having to pick up the pieces of the mess created by the whole thing. It was done on a whim by a PM that then bottled it when the result came back that he didn't want, leaving another PM in charge who is even more clueless than he was! The past two weeks have brought it sharply into focus for many. The options now seem to be deal or no deal! Maybe Noel E should be in charge of ringing the EU to see what their latest offer is!

Good solid debate. Well done guys and gals. Shame the Tories are in such a mess they have actually tabled a motion to bring FORWARD their summer holidays so all,the conversations about Brexit can stop earlier. Now that’s panic in my book. Odds are we’ll be in a general election soon enough. Brexit is the most devious plan to envoke all that is bad in this country. https://www.independent.co.uk/news/uk/home-news/tommy-robinson-protest-bus-blockade-woman-driver-headscarf-trump-latest-a8447536.html says it all for me. Well done to the lass, sitting patiently, smiling the whole time, whilst the scum of the Earth is merely metres away from her. The little Englander approach doesn’t and will not work.

Seeming as I'm the rabid dog politician on here, seems the good ship Tory Brexit really is on the rocks with ministers quitting right left and centre so far today! When Davis went this morning most main stream media forgot to mention his whole team went with him! Now with that fool Johnson leaving by the back door the current state of play for the Tories is not great. We have a leader propped up by the DUP votes, who, if it carries on the way it has so far today, will neutralise the majority of the DUP in the space of 72 hours? Can't see how this car crash can be repaired now from a Tory side of things. Unless they go full on Victorian and bring in an idiot like Mogg and his top hat. Looks like another General Election sooner than most thought!
  17. Did he watch it through a blindfold? From what I heard we were terrible all game. FULL STOP. No 'close but no cigar' just rubbish all over the park with far too many players out of position and them all being found wanting. Fine lines my arse.
  18. What's that noise in the background? Oh yes it's sort of sizzling sound. Time to go for food. Anyone for a squid? At the moment I see no reason to spend a Saturday afternoon attending the lane. Season ticket or not, you've still got to make a decision based on pure facts. The fact being we were s!#t. We still are. We have a manager that has never ...Well...managed before and his tactical (or lack of) knowledge will show through. Oh well. At least he can do a good PowerPoint hey?
  19. Surely the point of having Dryden as his assistant at the moment ( and for that I mean Ray Trew as I'm of the opinion that the club want certain control over the on the field action and this may have concerned MUCH better and MUCH more experienced managers in the past when going for the job) to say ... "Look Jamie. Massive squad. Lots of players for each position. Ricardo didn't keep players in their natural positions and we were found out most games even though the attacking promise was good. Sort out a solid back 4 then build from there, but it might be a good idea to play a centre back as a centre back."
  20. Terrible though it sounds...glad I didn't go today. Rapidly losing interest after the appointment.
  21. Was planning to abandon my protest and go today, but in the cold light of day (and a sore throat!) I'm going to stick with uncle Colin. Hope we win. Genuinely meant. Even though I disagree totally with the appointment, he's here now and its up to him to work the players as he best sees fit. If that means winning then even better. If it means losing then the question will be asked. What was the point?
  22. Things such as contracts do need tying up. As the merry go round spins again, it can easily become blurry, but the core of a good team is there if they can be kept and built upon. Let's hope JF does start successfully and all the fans, me included, can be tempted to back the club. I fear for the club if it goes pear shaped because players, as you mention, Stan etc.... Will move asap knowing they can play there trade in more stable environments.
  23. Hurst has decent win ratio about him though. If we look at the usual no marks like Danny Wilson, the list isn't too bad if we believe the press as to who is on it. Cooper Hurst Wilder Sheridan Powell Not a bad manager amongst them. Then you add in Baraclough and you can begin to worry as knowing Notts from that list it'll be him or somebody like Purse with no experience, but did well in interview. For me it's one job where the interview should consist of "Do you want it? Would you do it for this much and have this much for transfers." All the rest of the interview is a waste of time. Let's hope we don't go too left field.
  24. If he needs a lift down I'll cancel my appointments and drive him there tomorrow if needed. Bye.
  25. I think D's across the board apart from maybe Campbell and Stan on occasion.
