Clapping as a mark of respect
I get what you mean @Fan of Big Tone as I also had no idea why people were clapping so didn’t participate. It wasn’t till I got home that I found out it was for a very young girl who never reached her 8th birthday because of her condition, guess how bad I felt! I do think though that any clapping for someone should go through official channels so it can be properly organised and all fans notified.

Match Discussion: Game 43 - Sulphurites (H)
This was a strange one. We were by far the better side, but Harrogate had two one on ones before we scored (although Nemane’s offside looked close). This alongside LAH’s penalty save means that the result could have been entirely different, especially seeing as Harrogate had a real spell of pressure on our goal where LAH made another couple of great saves and saved his best for that point blank tip over the bar! Thought Nemane had a good game today, Sam was his usual steady self and Bostock was better today. Chicksen had a bit of a mare when he dropped into the backline for the 2nd half, he lost the ability control the ball! could someone also tell Crowley to not set foot in our own third of the pitch, he causes me heart palpitations!

Weekend Chat - Fri 5th - 7th April
Working today, watching Notts on Saturday, and Sunday I have a real highlight….. I have to fit two new bath panels at home!!! I don’t think I can contain my excitement!

County cock ups
It was Warner mate, Macari had gone off by then. A better keeper would help a lot. One that organises and is solid under the high ball, we haven’t had one since Carroll used to bark out his orders (he did go a bit far with his mouth sometimes). The goalkeeper is the one position that sees everything on the pitch and I’ve lost count as to how many times have we had players dispossessed because they are unaware of the pressure they’re under That’s because nobody in this side talks to one another, especially along the back line.

Time to be Positive about Season 2023/24
We’ve stayed up is the biggest positive. We’ve found out who in the squad I who can play at this level and also who is nowhere near good enough.

Why Notts Will Sell Macca
I would be amazed if we got a £2m offer for Macca, well not without a lot of add ons such as appearances and goals scored. He’s 27 now, not proven above League 2 and doesn’t have a great goal scoring record against the top sides this season, in fact I don’t remember him scoring against any of the top 7 sides this season in the league. I can see him staying as Notts won’t get the money they’ll want. Jodi could possibly go to a league 1 club, but I doubt he would go higher as he doesn’t have the pace needed now. I think he enjoys playing every week rather than warming a bench, so he might also stay.

Stuart Maynard: Should he stay or should he go?
Not surprisingly, I’m in the “he has to go” camp. At the time I thought he was the right appointment and even guessed him correctly when the job was still vacant. Unfortunately, he has had a third of the season and the facts (and lack of points) speak for themselves, he’s not good enough and we need better if we are going to progress.

Retain, release, sell, keep
Can’t argue with that @ARLukomski, good post and I see it broadly the same. See how Munakandafa goes at Truro, and unless he starts every game and gets good reviews then release him. He has not shown enough to warrant another year. Baldwin I originally thought to keep, but he’s an accident waiting to happen as a centre back, could be better perhaps as a sweeper/ DM in front (a bit like Don O’ many years ago). But definitely release as a CB. We need to get more physical presence and also pace in the side, but I can’t see us bringing in 9 players (only if Macca JJ and Dan go), more like 6 or 7. It’ll take us 3 or 4 seasons to be good enough to go up, but as long as we prioritise the defence and centre midfield then at least we will be a solid in and around the playoffs type of team.

9 points from a possible 42 under Stuart Maynard. Can he survive?
18 points gained though @Robbie instead of 9. 9 points in 14 games, you can’t get away from the fact that is an awful return and a damning verdict on the head coach, it is not just relegation form, it is cast adrift form and has made Notts the worst EFL side in the country. If a new coach cannot make a side better (or at least as good) after a third of the season, look for someone better.

9 points from a possible 42 under Stuart Maynard. Can he survive?
Yes @Robbiedefensive errors again, but why are they making more now than they were under LW? We are playing more negative football than we were under Luke, but rather than improve the defence by it he’s had a detrimental effect on the attack. inescapable fact, we are a worse team under Maynard and results have shown it.

9 points from a possible 42 under Stuart Maynard. Can he survive?
He will have a stay of execution after today’s result, but unless we beat Harrogate at the weekend he should go ASAP. Notts still don’t have a home win in 2024 which is a shocking statistic and we are in a worst state now than we were when he took over. We cannot risk him being in charge at the start of next season, it will cripple the club financially. 9 points out of 42 is the only statistic that needs examining, not the odd decent performance.

Match Discussion: Game 42 - The Dons (H)
Convinced myself to go after saying I wouldn’t after the Salford game. Much better performance for 60 minutes and then we lost control of the midfield when Sam had to go off. JOB should have been brought on to maintain the midfield’s energy because Bostock has become terrible and we were left with a tiring Robertson trying valiantly to keep control. Positives were that Jatta & Macca both played well and Macca definitely didn’t go missing like he often does against big clubs. Losing the press through tired legs isn’t helping, but JB and Didzy aren’t capable of continuing it when they come on. Their keeper looked well suspect early on with the ball at his feet when our energy levels were high. Thought it was funny when SM said that he didn’t see the banners, I think he was the only person in the ground that didn’t and that could explain some of his past pressers as to how he sees a different game to the rest of us.

Unfortunately @Robbie, I think the players want him gone also, so have down tools until he has been sacked. The mistakes they’re now making are almost too stupid not to be staged.

Match Discussion: Game 41 - The Robins (A)
Maynard has destroyed our attackers and actually done the impossible, he has made the defence worse. If a question of sport was still on, Notts could fill a whole series with “what happens next”. The side has become a laughing stock of the league and they’re really not trying to do anything to address it. It would be nice for our Chief Exec to actually open his office door, and watch what is happening. We have heard nothing from him in months but I bet we will when it comes to the club wanting us to renew our season tickets!
-
9 points from a possible 42 under Stuart Maynard. Can he survive?
I think I stated a little while ago that if he isn’t removed the club will lose fans and it will cost them with lack of season ticket revenue. Unless he is removed, I can see next season starting with at least 3000 fewer Notts fans in the stands. He has to go after Monday’s game, there is no longer any point in prolonging his (and our) suffering. He won’t walk as he’ll want a pay off, but he definitely has to go before next weekend. It has become that bad, that me and my lad have decided that we’re going to spend Monday with my wife and have an enjoyable family day out rather than suffer the purgatory of watching this Notts side.

The case for the defence.....
It’s interesting when you watch the opposition’s midfielders and defenders when we approach the 18 yard box. They always become more compact and get tight to us, denying us space and time so our only options are to go sideways and wide. Contrast that to our defending. More zonal and we always stand off attackers, allowing them the time and space to think their next move. I remember, back in the 80’s and 90’s when we had solid, no frills defenders who got tighter to their man than you would your missus when the slow dance tracks came on in the clubs at night.

9 points from a possible 42 under Stuart Maynard. Can he survive?
Personally, I can’t see a bid over £1m coming in for Langstaff now that Maynard has stifled his (and Notts) attacking intent. JJ and Dan will only have a year left, so probably bids of £200-250K would possibly come in for them as only league 1 clubs would probably bid. SM will go by the end of the season, he has to otherwise season ticket sales will tank. We’re boring to watch, 6 home games and only 7 goals scored whilst conceding 15, plodding up the field with the ball constantly going sideways and backwards, the players look frustrated and clueless as to what they should be doing. 1 goalkeeper and 5 defenders needed in the summer, three new centre halves and a couple of proper wing backs. Another couple of midfielders are also needed and another striker if we can get rid of Morias. Three things need prioritising, most new signings will need to be leaders, but they will also need to have pace and physicality. We won’t get rid of all the deadwood though for another season, so I think 9 new signings are too many, we might sign 6 and any more will depend on who leaves.

Match Discussion: Game 40 - The Ammies (H)
Bang on @Morten Johansen, he really isn’t helping himself and he will become a laughing stock if he continues with this style of interview. Many managers have tried it before at all clubs and it doesn’t wash with fans, you can’t treat us like idiots, especially when things are going badly. I think the owners will be forced to act by the end of the season as a manager that doesn’t have fan backing will just alienate them and we’re not about that as a club, and it will destroy all of Jason Turner’s legacy to bring the club and fans together. He has 7 games left to save his Notts future, and probably needs to win at least four of them.
-
Match Discussion: Game 40 - The Ammies (H)
The main issue I have with Maynard is that he still can’t stop the goals from going in, but he has changed us from a side that attacks with insightful movement and passing with quick ball delivery into danger areas, to a side that plays plodding crab football that relies on either Jodi or Dan creating something. We’re better off going back to all out attack at home as this style of football in strangling the side and boring to watch. Massive and expensive decisions need to be made in the summer as 50% of this side aren’t good enough to play league football for Notts and Maynard isn’t good enough to lead them. I did think Robertson had a really good game today and was easily my MotM, without him we would have been overwhelmed in midfield and he seemed to be the only one willing to tussle with Smith.
-
Match Discussion: Game 40 - The Ammies (H)
Baldwin is still suspended @menzinhoas he has received 10 yellows, so an automatic 2 game ban. Smith is the obvious threat and I think he will bully both Warner and Cameron. We kept him fairly quiet in the first fixture so hoping we can do the same again.I think we will need the keeper to claim as many crosses as possible.

Match Discussion: Game 38 - The Red Devils (A)
All the things you have stated though @Robbie are things that Notts cannot do. When was the last time we were able to batten down the hatches when going down to 10? You remove one attacker for 1 defender/midfielder when down to 10 and the obvious one is Nemane, not two of your best 3 players. And not at least trying Jatta until the 90th minute is ridiculous. He should have come on a lot earlier. Thankfully Sam had a great game, otherwise we would have got drubbed by 5 or 6.
-
Match Discussion: Game 38 - The Red Devils (A)
Not if it is jeopardising the clubs revenue with gates falling though @Robbie. Many may not come back next season and that impacts the whole FFP thing. Langstaff and Jones’s stock will start falling which means they will leave for significantly lower transfer figures than they would go for if they were still firing. Still need 6 points, I have no idea where they are going to come from unless we make a change. Rumours circulating that there has been a bust up with players, and he’s lost the dressing room. Plus he looks to have lost the fanbase. Sometimes, you need to bite the bullet, admit you got it wrong and pay the price.

Match Discussion: Game 38 - The Red Devils (A)
Time to go. Down to 10 men and he takes off our only attacking threat for a defender and midfielder. Has he not realised that Notts CANNOT shut up shop!?! Any sustained pressure and we crumble, score one and a second will come quickly and that left us with no chance of getting an equaliser. He’s been a bit unlucky at the start, but as a side, we are now far worse than we were when he was appointed, players look confused and despondent as to what formation they are supposed to be playing. One last thing, the season is far from over, both FGR and Grimsby won tonight, it is not inconceivable that we may still go down. Two more away games to go, don’t fancy our chances in either of them with Maynard in charge.
