  1. Allowing the subscribers to be the judges should help make sure that the right people are rewarded. I am pleased to see this. The artwork is incredible, such a talent there! I think fans will love the prints. A lot of effort must go into them, and if some fans get acknowledged for their support, then I think it’s a very kind gesture. I also agree with what @True Magpie said. Well done to him and @Chris.

  2. It looks like an excellent bit of business on paper. I am sure Notts has done all their homework, and it’s good to see further strengthening of the defence. I think being strong in each area will help Notts move forward. I don’t see this as a panic signing or anything negative. I see it as the club really wanting to be structured at the back. So, I am delighted we have signed Lucas Ness.

  3. It might go against the grain, but by mentioning the officials, it’s just drawing attention to it. Jodi Jones does get frustrated, and quite rightly so, with the fouls on him, but he does also get on with it. I do think officials should cut it out, but at the same time, mentioning it in the press will just lead to teams assuming that if they do it and take Jones out, Notts will be limited. I don’t like that. We just need to try to safeguard Jodi by making sure he’s safe. Complaining might lead to officials offering no protection at all. As for the season, it’s good to be back. Everything seems promising. Notts just needs to climb the table.

  4. I would be tempted to start David McGoldrick over Jatta, though both are in good form. I think Jatta might cause more trouble coming on from off the bench, with McGoldrick's experience helping to keep the front organised and ready to pounce. I am sure whatever the starting line-up will be, it will be strong and a good selection. A win would be very nice, but I do feel a draw could be possible again. I am not worried about these types of games ending up as 3 points. It will come as the season progresses.

  5. McGoldrick needs to accept that he’s no longer in his prime. I think he knows this. While he feels he can contribute, it has to be what’s best for Notts rather than himself. I’m sure he would like to be starting, but I don’t see his place as a regular anymore. If he played as he did last season for most of those games, his spell back here would have been disappointing. Thankfully, everyone else played just as badly, but we relied on him a bit too much. I love David McGoldrick, but his place is as a squad player.

  6. I can’t imagine the players being nervous; more likely, they are excited to be playing in front of us at Meadow Lane. Our strategy should revolve around exerting constant pressure on Fleetwood's defence from the beginning. Patient build-up play could benefit the game, but to keep it open, we need to see the link play where Notts moves the ball into areas where the more creative players can put the ball to the likes of Jatta. Fleetwood will come with a good spirit; I hope their fans do too.

  7. We want a player that can make use of the space and exploit the opposition's defenders, who might not be marking him completely. He looks like a player who can develop into that mould and assist the club. I wouldn't personally get carried away by saying we should get promoted, but that is a goal that we should all be fighting for. I just feel it is early, and we need to focus on getting wins before.

He seems a very talented midfielder who unfortunately missed out on signing for Barnsley, but this is our gain now. Hopefully, he can continue to shine for us.

  8. There are a lot of positives if we wish to find them. I know it’s much easier to think of the negatives. Focus on the players’ mistakes that became costly, though those are things the players and coaching team need to address. For me, I want to praise the good effort that took us 2-0 up and for the spirit to get ourselves back on level terms. Notts going to penalties is a gamble on who would come out better, and if we had managed to win on them, we wouldn’t be as fussed over conceding 3. It’s still very early days, no need to panic.

  9. Let's take the positives. I think Mark Stallard is right about the subs influencing the game, and it makes sense when Stall explained it's to get minutes in for the players coming on. I think Stuart Maynard will learn from this, maybe bring them on gradually and not three in one go, especially when under pressure. Credit to Shrewsbury for turning the game on its head, plus I am pleased for Jatta that it was him who sent us to penalties.

  10. His and the other players defending was superb, much more controlled and calm compared to last season. I think we might make the right decision bringing in defenders as the main priority ahead of this campaign. Looking at the Tranmere Rovers game, I think, it was very promising with the way we handled the game. Tranmere being a tall, physical side, they were always going to make us work for anything.

A point is a good start to the season, it gives us a solid platform to move into the weekend's game on Sunday pushing to go one better.

  11. I can’t say that anyone who watched the game should have gone home unhappy. Notts tried, and it was a task to get a glimpse at goal without a Tranmere player or two blocking the path. I thought we showed some very creative passing, which could have led to a goal. I think the squad did well, happy defensively and encouraged with the way we attacked the game. A few more efforts on goal would have been great, but it’s reasonably acceptable.

  12. I have seen footage and pictures of Jeff Astle playing. He really does deserve to be listed in the Pride of Nottingham Alumni series. Such a quality player, who could jump with such grace and height that he could find the back of the net. I believe he was very prolific with scoring goals with his head, which is a shame that it caused his illness later on.

His career will always be a shining example of a true great footballer, supported by his loving family and the research they continue to do.

  13. As draws go, Notts were solid and looked very comfortable. One thing I would like to praise is the number of times we showed hunger for winning the ball back. Sometimes it became scrappy and difficult, but we persisted as a team and overcame most of those incidents.

By retaining the ball, it gave us a good platform going forward. I really hope this is a sign of more to come under Stuart Maynard. The Reedtz have given the club the focus to improve in the back line and goalkeeper positions, and I think it shows.

  14. Excellent in-depth look at League Two, @menzinho. To cover the basics, I agree that there have been many good signings for various teams, and it looks like the bigger prospects are gearing up for the promotion challenge.

Looking at our squad, I still feel we could use one or two additions, but I am also hopeful that some of the young players may get a chance in games we are controlling well.

It feels like now is the right time to play our youngsters. If we can build a good run and maintain it, then a lot of pressure would come off Stuart Maynard. I think it’s paramount that we start well, but sometimes things do take a chance. My money for automatic promotion is on Gillingham and MK Dons.

  15. Tranmere Rovers have a good side on paper, just like we do. They have a great manager in Nigel Adkins, who has experienced most of it within the EFL. Stuart Maynard must be hoping that the quality we have brought in during the close and pre-season will be enough to make our defence less prone to mistakes. I don’t think either team will slip up, but quality will show by the final whistle.

  16. I’ve been planning to buy Ian’s book. It’s a must-have for every Notts fan as it recounts the story of our club’s triumphant return to the Football League after a period of despair. Football, when compared to life, holds less significance. Some may not show it, but deep down, they know it’s true.

The tale of how his family has come together and shown unity in the face of a severe diagnosis, such as a brain tumour, is truly inspiring. Making the most of such a situation must be challenging, but from what I’ve seen on Twitter, the Marsden family has plenty of support. I extend my best wishes to Wendy and Ian.

  17. Well said, Gaffer. Your words echo my sentiments exactly. It’s true that all good things must eventually come to an end. It’s a bit sad that Macaulay Langstaff’s journey with us is ending so soon, especially when he had just begun to carve out his legacy. While it would have been wonderful to have him for another season, we must respect his decision to embrace a new challenge.

This new chapter at Millwall won’t be easy, as the team is expected to face some tough times. However, they now have a striker who has proven his ability to adapt and score goals. Just as he did for us, I hope he continues to make his mark in the football world. It was a privilege to watch such a fantastic striker don the famous black and white of Notts. His story is far from over, and I look forward to seeing what the next chapter holds for him.

  18. The club certainly knows how to let us down. I don’t think we’ve received a fair deal, but we won’t know the specifics. If it’s £700,000, we’ve been short-changed. I don’t want to dwell on the negatives, I just wish Macaulay Langstaff all the best. He’s provided us with some wonderful memories, and after seeing us demoted to the National League, he definitely helped propel us back to League Two. Thank you, Macca.

  19. The move suggests that Norwich City is planning for the future. It’s less of a risk and a big step up for a young player. Lucien Mahovo will be eager to prove himself at a higher level. If Notts had held onto him, we might not have seen his full potential. It makes sense for us to accept the transfer, but I hope the fee is fair. I’m not expecting a large sum, but a fair price would be nice.
