A blast from the past: Meet the Fans forum special
Rewind to 2015, when every community member, including Granny, loved to take potshots at @super_ram. The voice-over for @Fan of Big Tone still makes me laugh. ???? A bit of banter from me at times with Super too, oh how I miss these days, but all good things should leave a smile.

Opposition View: Lifelong Port Vale Fan Steven Crank Previews Notts County Clash
Introduction: Name: Steven Crank. How long have you supported Port Vale? 30 years. Are you a season ticket holder? Unfortunately, not because of work. Age? I’m 35. Favourite Player? Stephen McPhee Can you tell us a bit about yourself and how you became a Port Vale fan? What are some of your earliest memories supporting the team? I’m 35 years old and a forklift truck driver. I’ve been following the Vale since I was 3 years old. My Nan used to take me until I was old enough to go with the lads. My earliest memories are beating Stockport 2-1 at Wembley to win the league trophy. I was 4 years old. What has been your most memorable match as a Port Vale supporter? Conversely, what has been the most heart-breaking moment for you? Apart from all the times we have beaten Stoke in local derbies, my most memorable moment was beating Tranmere at home 2-1. We needed to win to keep the play-off hope alive. Steve McPhee scored a 92nd-minute winner out of nowhere. Amongst that, Tom Pope scoring at the Etihad or Leon Constantine scoring to put us 1 up away at Tottenham. On the flip side, my most heartbreaking moment has to be beating Rushden and Diamonds away to get into the play-offs, meanwhile Swindon and Hartlepool played for a draw which halted our play-off push on the final day of the season. A win by either team would have cemented our place. How do you usually follow Port Vale matches? Do you prefer watching games live at the stadium, on TV, or listening to the radio? With work commitments, I tend to watch on my stream or radio but go as much as I can. I’ve been to a fair few grounds as well, some that no longer exist. What are your thoughts on Port Vale’s performance so far this season? Do you think they can secure a play-off place, or higher? While being quietly optimistic, it would be Vale all over to fizzle out. But with an experienced manager and the likes of Stockley, Byers, Benning, Garrity, and Chislett, we could easily get 3rd place. But it’s a dog-eat-dog league and anything can happen. How do you feel about the current management and coaching staff? Are there any changes you would like to see in the club’s strategy or approach? I’m happy with Darren Moore, although his interviews are boring as hell.???? I’d like to see a more attacking approach to games because it’s League 2. If you attack, you will get goals. We seem to score and sit back, and the inevitable always happens. How do you think Port Vale’s style of play compares to other teams in League Two? Are there any teams you particularly enjoy watching them play against? I haven’t seen enough teams yet so far to comment on this one. Anyone who plays attacking football is always good to watch. What are your thoughts on the upcoming match against Notts County? How do you think the game will go, and what do you predict the final score will be? While Jodi Jones is out, there is always a chance. Backed by 2300 Valiants, the away end will be rocking. But typical Vale, backed by a tremendous following, normally don’t turn up. Notts County is definitely one of the stronger teams in this league, so it’ll be a close game. I’m sitting on the fence with this one and saying 2-2, with goals from Ben Garrity and Jayden Stockley. Final comments from Chris This will be a game for both teams which will test their promotion credentials, a good result for Notts would be a welcomed return to winning ways after the frustrating defeat against Gillingham. Notts will be hoping the 12th man and home advantage will benefit them the most, as they take to the Meadow Lane pitch. With the absence of Jodi Jones, it will be noteworthy to see how Kellan Gordon does in the position and if he can continue the fight. Port Vale are in good form themselves, and will prove themselves to be a very difficult outfit to face on home soil. They will be looking to make it four wins in five or three draws in five, hoping to defeat at all costs. I can't see many goals being in the game, perhaps only two, and I am hoping both goals are to Notts, yet it may end 1-1. Pride of Nottingham has an exclusive interview with Kellan Gordon, where he shares his thoughts on the upcoming game, settling in at Notts County, and his ambitions for the club. Don't miss what the new signing has to say as he aims to make a big impact! Join the conversation on Pride of Nottingham and share your thoughts ahead of the Port Vale match! Wallaby spotting in Notts?
Inchconnachan: The British island where wallabies rule WWW.BBC.COM Once the rural retreat of a powerboat-racing countess, this uninhabited isle is now a slow-travel paradise that's home to Scotland's most exotic mammal. I remember watching a nature show on TV, where they mentioned this. It wasn't David Attenborough who was narrating it, but someone else. I think this is where, I could have gone on a school trip when I was 16. Some of my year, went to a Scottish island to see them and do outside activities. I didn't like the idea of the time it took to travel, so I never showed interest. The nature documentary almost made me regret the decision.

Match Discussion: Game 9 - The Blues (A)
@Piethagoram I do feel, Carlisle were coming into the game more, but I do agree, the subs made it harde, butt I think had we seen more control - the changes would have found it easier to get themselves up to the speed of play. Once Jevani Brown came on, it looked like every ball was lumped forward and most wasn't near to him. Carlisle really turned things around in the second half. Watching the highlights, you can appreciate just how good Alex Bass is for us.

I'm in good company; we both need to re-find some good form but hey, at least we are persisting.

Weekly Chat 30th Sept to 6th Oct.
I managed to free up some time to go to visit my mum/grandparents/aunt and daughter. It's been killing me, being unable to go. I find a lot of peace from being to make it, whereas lengthy spells between just starts getting to me. Having been to Carlisle, which is thanks to my friend, has been an enjoyable time. He paid for my ticket, drove me and has offered to help with the Pride of Nottingham flag. He's an unsung hero, who I am incredibly thankful for. Mark is a star! It's been a really good week, just need to find time to go see @super_ram. Which, I will do on Sunday.

Match Discussion: Game 10 - The Valiants (H)
So, they should be bringing a fair amount. I hope they come friendly and lively, because when the Jimmy Sirrel stand is loud it does encourage the KOP. Port Vale are doing well, they'll be tough but I am not worried that they will outplay us. I am just encouraged to see how the game unfolds. I wonder how the team will look, considering we played mid-week and Saturday before that. It's good that Jatta, Cedwyn Scott and Scott Robertson are all back. I am really looking forward to the game, it should be a good test for both teams.

Match Discussion: Game 9 - The Blues (A)
I love grounds like Carlisle United's, Brunton Park is such an interesting ground. The fan zone that Liam Cole, a Carlisle supporter from our Opposition View, described to me is fantastic. It was great to see Notts fans mingling with Carlisle fans. The quirky options of food and drinks, being so open, right next to the ground, is something which Notts should look into for The Nest. The floodlights made it a bit difficult for me to see; it wasn't the best lit ground but also, my eyes can be a little off. I hadn't noticed that Alex Bass had sent a precise pass to Jatta, but I did see him skilfully control the ball and finish the opportunity brilliantly. That surge came at a good time, as I thought Carlisle were starting to find their own feet. Carlisle did come close in the first half, they had the header from a cross which went wide. That was a very dangerous attack, and difficult for their player to direct, but it was a good move. That was the only time I felt like I was on the edge of my seat. I'll explain why when I talk about the second half. In the second half I felt Carlisle were coming more into the game before Stuart Maynard made the changes. We looked like we had shut shop and had to become very defensive minded, which I have no arguments about. Our squad has played many minutes and the first half's intensity would have been a big thing for some of our returning players like Jatta and Scott Robertson. There were a lot of moans by a select few groups near me, who didn't like how the game had swayed and within their comments dismissed Carlisle as being a very poor team. Whilst, I would say they didn't defend very well at times in the first half, they played some excellent football and I felt that their issues weren't in the midfield but their defence and finishing. I don't like how some of our fans seem to think we can't be outplayed. Dismissing Carlisle's quality, which in the second half was inabudnace, I did feel that their lack of clinicalness would never see them beat Alex Bass. That's why, despite some moments where they looked comfortable, I never really returned to the edge of my seat. I thought defensively, Notts dealt with everything very well and Bass was class with everything that did get past our defence. It was a great result for Notts, our fans loved every minute of the game which was impressive to see the final cheers, after the whistle had blown for full-time.

Who's Your Notts Man of the Match v Carlisle?
No doubt in my mind that Alex Bass deserves to be named the Man of the Match, so he gets my vote. Everyone was praising his performance to me, even Chud the photographer. I thought Alex did excellently, and on my journey home I was further communicating with Liam Cole, and he agreed that Bass deserved to be named it. Excellent performance by our keeper, who Staurt Maynard is correct in saying that he's the best in this league.

Help Our Moderation Team by Reporting Issues
Our host just experienced a brief amount of downtime, which effected all of their servers - including ours. The need to reset their data centre sparked significant outrage among users. It didn't seem to be long, but I thought I would let members know. ????

Should there be more protection for players?
From the highlights I believe he did, but there are plenty of times dangerous tackles have seen the defending player make contact with the ball. I think there needs to be clearer rules against challenges to prevent "contact" being used as an excuse for making poor fouls or decisions. It's a shocking challenge, I would hope things are helped towards protecting players.

Another Possible Loanee From Spurs Come January
I believe if you have good players, then their ability on the pitch will help others striving to improve their own game. So, whilst I would be disappointed that this could potentially push our own academy players further down the pecking order. I do acknowledge that it wouldn't when it comes to EFL Trophy games. It seems unlikely that we will see one of our own youngsters frequently on the bench or even starting in the league. So, I would hope this would push the younger players who want to be a part and not happy to settle for when they are selected. They need to be showing a fighting spirit to be noticed by Stuart Maynard, so I am not against this at all but I don't think we would need any further loans if this were to happen.
-
Should there be more protection for players?
I believe this and Chud, a Nottingham-based photographer, have masterfully captured the inherent dangers of the challenge. Watching the full game highlights, their player does reach the ball. Yet his boot is raised, his studs are showing, and it went through Jodi when he ran with the ball. That is very dangerous. He has limited control of what he's doing in that motion, most players don't even have their arms stretched up and wide when making these sorts of tackles. It says to me, he was stretching for the ball, which again is dangerous to do. Their fans seem to think it's perfectly fine, but they wouldn't have had it been one of their own. I call this straight, if it was a Notts player that did it - I would call it out as dangerous play. Images are at times do not give the full picture, but even this attempt on Jodi by comparing it to the highlights deserved a yellow card. Highs high again, stretching for the ball with a lunging in motion.

Weekly Chat 30th Sept to 6th Oct.
I'm starting to get ready to leave for Carlisle. I am taking the Pride of Nottingham flag which has only ever been used during the COVID times at Meadow Lane and Wembely. I am not sure if I will take it in, but I will see what my friend thinks. I also plan to meet up with @Dripsey3, which I am looking forward to. He told me he wanted to get a Cumberland Sausage Hot Dog, so I will keep my eyes peeled for people eating one. ????

In terms of the footballing wealth of the country, where does "The North" actually start?
I would have to look at a map. It is interesting and something I haven't thought of before. I just think of games based on where they are, rather than North, South etc. No idea why this map doesn't include, Notts but it gives some idea as to the clubs locations. It's very random team based, I would say.

Most Famous Words In Football
This is etched into my memory when I think of quotes from football. I don't know about anyone else, but I always have the habit of impersonating the commentator who said it by trying to say it exactly like him. I do this most times, I think of it. ???? Also, this one is there too. I had a similar thing, when Kevin Nolan unfairly criticised me in a press conference because JJ had shared pictures of Liam Noble training, which was sent to him by a friend called Ben Hastings (who sadly passed on from cancer). He referred to me as "Arsenal fan TV" and claimed "He always has his picture taken with the players." I only have a few pictures, and more are from after Kevin had left Notts. It was usually Jake and Cal who had pictures with the players, and it wasn't like we bugged them. Just Kevin being a little pathetic about something very minor. He has since apologised, so it's water under the bridge but hate the time I would have happily had a boxing match with him for charity. Don't write me off!

September's Player of the Month: Pride of Nottingham
I'm sorry folks, I made a mistake and forgot to include Jodi Jones. I need to make sure that the Facebook groups poll doesn't allow people to add to it. As I went off that for Twitter, and somehow discluded him here.????????♂️

Opposition View: Liam Cole on Carlisle United’s Rebuild Under Mike Williamson and Facing Notts County
Introduction: Name: Liam Cole. How long have you supported Carlisle United? My first proper memory with the Blues is probably the Leeds play-off game, since the 2007/08 season. Are you a season ticket holder? Unfortunately not. My work commitments mean I don’t get to all home games any more, but I still manage to attend about 80% of them. Age? 27. Favourite Player? My favourite player would be either Peter Murphy or Danny Grainger, both legends of the club’s recent past. What are the key strengths and weaknesses of Carlisle United, and how do they match up against Notts County’s style of play? Up until the change in manager, there weren't really any strengths in the team with the tactics being played. This will be Mike Williamson's third game in charge, and there are certainly signs that, given a bit of time and backing in the transfer window (which he will get with our new owners), we will be a formidable team. Our game against Grimsby on Saturday was a Jekyll and Hyde performance. Our performance in the first half was the best half of football in the last three seasons without a doubt. In the second half, we were sloppy and switched off. No doubt this will improve when the players build their fitness and get used to our new tactics. Hopefully, we will be playing front-foot, possession-based football, which is obviously only fully possible for one team, so it will be less a case of tactics and more a case of the execution of them as to who comes out on top on the day. How do Carlisle United fans feel about their team’s current position in the league, and what do they think needs to change to improve their standing? Obviously, given the new ownership and the backing of the previous regime, and head of recruitment Abbott, who is still here, but I would argue should be shown the door when our new position of sporting director is finally filled, we were expecting to be a big player in the league this season. Credit to Tom Piatak, he jumped early and replaced him with a manager with a positive future (hopefully with us!) instead of another off the merry-go-round. The signs in the two games so far are enough to suggest that if we continue on the same progress trajectory, then we should be more than safe this year, potentially with an outside shot at a playoff push. Who are the standout players for Carlisle United this season, and which Notts County players do they see as the biggest threats? All the players have suffered with the tactics of Paul Simpson this season. The only player signed this year that looks to have improved under his leadership is our right-sided defender Archie Davies. Obviously, under the right leadership and tactics, we have some incredibly talented players. Everyone in the lower league knows exactly what players like Jordan Jones and Charlie Wyke are capable of. Obviously, your injury to Jodi Jones is a big one and one that strengthens our chances. I'd expect Dan Crowley to play the biggest role in the game, being that our standout issue under Williamson is him wanting to play from the back and the question mark over defenders as to whether they fit into that style of play. His runs forward from midfield will cause us a lot of issues if our passing is not up to scratch. What is the atmosphere like at Brunton Park on match days, and how do Carlisle United fans prepare for big games like this one? The opposition fans' view on how we travel sums up the support the Blues have. Last season in League 1, most teams ranked us in the top 2 or 3 teams for away following to their grounds that season. The atmosphere at home games is not quite as renowned, and there are definitely more doom and gloomers, but the atmosphere is still there. The improvements to the ground have massively improved the match day experience and have, in turn, improved the atmosphere pre-match. I think one of the positives we have is that despite the improvements and changes to the ground with a brand-new fan zone, more hospitality boxes added, and the improved hospitality offerings, we have managed to keep the charm of the 'old school' stadium, which a lot of these new stadiums lack. We have a march from the town centre with flags down to the ground, which is organised by a group of people who stand in 'The Warwick'. This is, however, going to be made up of fans from all areas of the ground. How do Carlisle United supporters view their manager’s tactics and decisions, and what changes would they like to see in the upcoming match? It's still far too early in Mike Williamson's reign to comment, but I think the vast majority would agree that the early signs have been positive. There were grumbles at his appointment from a minority because of where MK Dons are in the league and the fact we paid a rumoured £200,000 release clause for him and his coaching staff when he was potentially on the verge of the sack. The flip side of that is he took them from 16th/17th last season and got them in the playoffs, albeit putting in the performance they did in the semis. The changes I would personally like to see are the cohesion and being able to execute the tactics like we did in the first half of the last game, for the full 90 minutes. What are the most memorable moments for Carlisle United fans from previous seasons, and how do they compare to past encounters with Notts County? The big ones that stand out for me personally are two visits to Wembley. Beating Brentford 1-0 in the JPT final, with Peter Murphy netting the goal 24 hours after the birth of his baby. Then there's the two weeks beating Bradford in the play-off semis and seeing their fans' tears, and then beating Stockport on penalties in our 'weekend in paradise'. Another core memory as a fan is taking Liverpool to penalties and Derek Asamoah scoring in front of the KOP and his celebration to the Liverpool fans. I genuinely believe that was the defining nail in Brendan Rodgers' coffin in his time at the club. He was sacked less than two weeks later. Had they lost, I reckon he'd have been sacked that night. Obviously, you're unbeaten in 5 against us if my memory is correct. However, the 5-0 at Meadow Lane is probably the defining memory against your team, with big Chaz scoring one and Jabo Ibehre netting a brace. Which young players have shown the most improvement in their form this year? And how do you think their development will impact the team’s performance in the upcoming matches? The obvious choices are the two Bournemouth boys, Dom Sadi and Dan Adu-Adjei. Dom Sadi, in particular, has shown massive potential in his first senior role. Most of our senior team aren't seen as 'young'. A couple of the YTS players put in some promising performances in preseason, and hopefully, they can snatch their chances if and when they come. Final comments from Chris I would like to express my gratitude to Liam for taking the time to answer my questions. I sent these quite late, and he has come through to give us a brilliant insight into his support of Carlisle United. As for the game, I would honestly take a point because it will allow us to remain undefeated. I can see Carlisle being more of a threat on goal, so defensive solitude will be of importance for Notts. The game should be fairly open, but I have concerns that Carlisle might lift themselves and pull off a good performance against us. I am passing on a prediction this time, it will be quite tight. Head over to Pride of Nottingham and join the match discussion, where fans are sharing their thoughts on the Carlisle United vs. Notts County clash! Read our latest article on Pride of Nottingham covering Jodi Jones' injury and how the Notts County star remains determined to bounce back from this setback.

François Zoko is the player who faced a fine during the Trew era for generously giving his shirt to a fan. He played for both teams, and I felt we should have started more as a striker.

Match Discussion: Game 9 - The Blues (A)
We need to start brighter than we did against Morecambe, I think Carlisle are more capable than them as a team - with no disrespect to Morecambe. I just feel Carlisle have a stronger squad, even though they have started poorly. I think the game should be a lot more controlled, as compared to Morecambe. I don't see Carlisle wasting energy or throwing themselves into the game straight away. I can see them being more patient on the ball and structured at the back. I would agree, Jevani Brown is unlikely to start. I am hoping we do see Kellan Gordon because he looks to be the best option we have with Jodi Jones being injured. I am sure whatever line-up Stuart Maynard chooses, we'll be competitive, and I am sure we will start better. Notts just needs to be structured at the back, and a lot more careful when committing themselves to crosses and corners.
-
Who is your Notts man of the match v Morecambe?
I do feel David McGoldrick is the right choice, but everyone has their own opinion which is refreshing to see, and I like seeing which players get mentioned as being the Man of the Match. I am pleased for McGoldrick.
