It’s beneficial that the club and Will Randall have decided to go their separate ways. He never seemed to fit in and lacked the motivation to succeed. He’ll likely join a National League team and restart his career. It was worth a shot, but it’s not always possible to rely on players to replicate their success from smaller teams in a competitive squad.

I think Richard Brindley being played as a centre-back and out of position may not have done him any favours from an EFL perspective. Adapting to a three-at-the-back formation has taken him out of his natural position, and I wouldn’t be surprised if this is why he hasn’t signed for a bigger club. It seems a lot of former Notts players end up at Eastleigh or Gateshead these days.

It’s difficult to see where he would have fit in, as those positions are areas where we have already signed and strengthened players. I don’t think he would have been given much consideration had he stayed here, so making an offer and selling him seems like a good decision. If he performs well, Norwich deserves credit, with some going to our academy. But look at how most other young players have ended up in recent years.

It was a good game, not much else to say really. The positives are that both teams Notts played against seemed balanced. I think the story would have been different if we had played with our first XI, but that’s beside the point. Alfreton did well to take the lead twice, putting Notts on the defensive. Not that Notts didn’t have opportunities, but it’s clear that fitness is an area we need to improve.

Sam Stubbs came with a lot of expectations, being Alan Stubbs’ son. At the age of 20, he should have achieved more, but that wasn’t the case. He seemed a promising prospect, but he needed time, time that Notts couldn’t afford to give him then. I’m surprised they aren’t making more cutbacks. The club has been squandering money on transfer fees. It’s not as if the club has won any significant accolades recently, yet they continue to operate as if they have.

As Notts fans will know, when things are going well, everything else seems to fall into place. It’s encouraging to see the healthy sales of season tickets. For a club of our stature, this must be a pleasing sight for the board, showing that their hard work is drawing fans back, season after season. Given our recent performance, it’s not surprising. The squad is filled with players who represent the club admirably, and we are fortunate to be owned by individuals who spend money judiciously. They don’t splurge on a single player, but spread their investments across multiple players, recruiting exceptionally well. At our level, one might expect more mistakes, so it’s gratifying to see this isn’t the case.

I ponder whether footballers who earn millions regard themselves as fortunate. Regrettably, Tommy Lawton was born too early to receive the earnings he merited. Despite this, he was an exceptional player. In his twilight years, he should have been treated like royalty. If he were still with us today, things might have been vastly different. Hateley is indeed one of Notts’ finest strikers, standing shoulder to shoulder with the likes of Tommy Lawton, Jackie Sewell, and Les Bradd. Much like them, Hateley had the knack of scoring not just with his feet, but also with his head. Truly a remarkable player!

He’s had some successful seasons with Notts, but now he’s in the twilight of his career. In the future, I’d be delighted to see Connell Rawlinson return as a guest at Meadow Lane. He’s performed exceptionally well, it’s just unfortunate that our progression requires someone more agile and quick. Wishing him all the best!

It would be somewhat odd to think that the club would consider signing someone from a rival league team before making a bid for our most crucial player. That kind of money could lead to unreasonable demands for player fees, so I’m more inclined to believe it’s separate from the rumoured interest in Macaulay Langstaff.

The site looks fantastic, but just as you become familiar with one and know where everything is, they change it. However, it does look much more professional now.

I don’t envision it happening just yet. I believe the club will aim to secure all their targets, but they might allow someone to potentially sign Macaulay Langstaff. The moment a team receives a substantial fee for a player, others expect you to pay a premium for players. If we are to progress, we need to recruit first and then evaluate our options. I don’t foresee him leaving us in the near future.

I think Curtis Edwards’ signing is brilliant for us. His ability to play both attacking and deeper roles makes him a versatile player who can adapt to different game situations. I love how he appreciates the team’s philosophy and is keen to integrate into the squad. His positive comments about the coaching staff and the club show his genuine excitement to be here.

I’m not one for betting, but I’m quietly confident that our squad has what it takes for promotion. Those odds swinging in our favour might get some fans a bit overexcited, but it’s best to just enjoy the season and see how it pans out. I’m certain that by the end of this upcoming season, we’ll be a chuffed bunch of Notts supporters.

It’ll be smashing to have Matt Palmer back in the fold, there’s no need to push him during pre-season. Just get him prepped for the league matches in a way that safeguards him further. Having him fully fit and regularly in the squad will bring back a much-needed equilibrium to our midfield.
