Match Talk    Carlisle United Vs Notts County

It's an interesting fixture, a side which beat Sheffield United (1-0) rather convincingly I have been told by a good source up north are a little concerned by our visit. The way some of their fans have communicated with me, you'd have though they was in our position and us in theirs!

Carlisle is an untest ground for me, I'm excited about making the journey.

Notts - MUST show the same conviction and passion in this performance, as the one they did against Tranmere. I think away will be a different one to master, as I strongly feel the crowd helped on Saturday (among other contributing factors). I wouldn't mind a slower game, aslong as the passions there. The skill and tricks, well are nice but I want to see a step at a time but I won't moan if the likes of Andre Boucaud insist on splitting their defense with an incising ball forward - Just a case of doing it when someone can run! ;)

Carlisle - I'm not sure, many seem to have this down as an easy game. It would be so much easier if we had Zoko, we'd be guaranteed a goal! Okay, Perhaps not but I still think we should have kept him. There squad will be wanting a win, I don't see them being overly kind to us and possibly cut throat style game.

Just hope it's a game where boys turn into men and believe! Man into Manager! COYP!

Tomorrow we have been invited to a friends 50th birthday cruise. It is a cruise down the river with afternoon tea. Sounds lovely.


 


It will be even more enjoyable if we just happen to be passing the donkey sanctuary at about the time that Fword fans are trooping out having been beaten by Derby. Here's hoping, I might give them a few "you pies" at the top of my voice safe in the knowledge that short of swimming they can't get to me. :joker:


 


If any of them jump off the bridge in their anguish I won't be diving in to save them.

I haven't been able to get on here very frequently whilst on holiday but it looks like it's been very quiet with Joe and family being away as well. It's time I came back home and livened things up a bit but you will have to wait another week.


 


I see the PON facebook page seems to be a lot busier, how can we get some of those folk on here and chatting? It worries me that everyone seems to be on the facebook page and very few on here, it should be the other way round.


 


Anyway come on guys, give the forum a chance and forget facebook, you know it makes sense.

Jimmy Sirrel Stand    Mcgregor And Grealish

How important are these two young players to us? Do you want to see us attempt to extend their loan periods?

I've only see them play together at Tranmere, where no doubt McGregor was quieter than normal. McGregor deserves an extension by his performances so far, I think it's important for youngsters to enjoy their football because skill etc becomes natural when you do. Learning wise, he's in a good situation as we're starting to build from the bottom and it will help him on some many levels (I'm not even going mention how much he can help us - It's obvious).

Grealish dominated Tranmere, he looked like a player well in his prime and different to McGregor. Grealish appears to be more dynamic and experienced with passing, he just needs to improve his finishing and if this happened he could start bagging a few goals.

I don't agree with the Waddle comments - He doesn't look or play like him. Waddle never had pace and his ability was related to crossing/passing - A very overrated player in my opinion.

Both McGregor and Grealish have so much promise and both need looking into extending asap.

After a quiet few weeks, things seem to be picking up on here again. So it'll be nice to see a few more people joining in here. You can look at the other threads for an idea of what its about but basically, I post six fixtures every week and you just have to predict the score for each match. You get 3 points for a correct score, 1 point for a correct result.

Granny Pie's General Discussion    Tony's Back In Town

Well here I am back from two weeks camping in our little camper van, the house seems enormous!

We had a lovely time, we spent some time in Wiltshire and Hampshire before catching the ferry for the Isle of Wight where we spent a week at Whitecliffe Bay a lovely spot, the weather was on the whole warm and dry apart from one night when we had a gale and lashing rain.

We took a heater with us in case we got cold at night but never used it. We did a couple of ten mile walks and some shorter ones which invariable just happened to have country pub en route so had some nice pub lunches too. Lots of real ale on the island Super_Ram:thumbsup:

After a week on the island we visited relatives before making our way home, the first thing we noticed is how much colder it is the further north we came, the IOW seems to have its own micro climate, it's a lovely place and I can heartily recommend it for a holiday.

Match Talk    Notts County Vs Tranmere Rovers

The troops have been rallied, we've had a positive messaged shared by our Chairman - Regardless of individual views or the fact that CK appears to have the backing. It might not be what everyone would like, although we have to make the best of our current situation and the only way forward is by thinking clearly.

I certainly don't think much will change if things don't start to pick up, there becomes a point where actions will and must be taken. So really, until this point let's support the team we love.

Tranmere have some quality in their side, although they have been inconsistent themselves.

The thing which worries me is the fact that they can score freely, they can create and control games. We need to see an improvement - The marking certainly needs to be much better and if we can take some of the pressure we create ourselves we could control the game.

I don't see a win personally, I see a 1-1 draw on the cards.

For those who haven't received this message, here is Ray's rallying call.


 




Firstly I must apologise for the length of this note, but I feel there is a lot that needs to be said.

 

I wanted to write to you on the eve of our game against Tranmere Rovers to firstly thank you foryour previous and hopefully continued support of Notts County Football Club, but also to reassure you that nobody here at Meadow Lane is in any way satisfied with how our current campaign has unfolded to date.

 

We’re nearly two months into the season now and it’s fair to say that things haven’t gone the way we would have liked, but I hope that I have shown in my relatively short time at Notts County that I am not one who hides away from problems, I like to tackle them head on and try to put things right.

 

Do I always get things right? No, I most certainly do not. Do I always have the best interests of the club at heart when making every single decision? Yes, I most certainly do. I cannot see any other reason for making decisions, or for continuing to try and tackle the problems that present themselves to us.

 

I am not in this for the short-term and I’m certainly not in it for financial gain. I am here because I am a football fan, I love the game and I want to make my mark on it, with all of you, here at the World’s Oldest Football League Club, Notts County FC.

 

Some of you will see this as empty sentiment I am sure, but I couldn’t stand by and have people think that I don’t care, because nothing could be further from the truth. Every point we drop hurts. Every cup game we lose hurts. I obviously feel the financial knock on of any negativity, but it is the emotional pain that hurts the most. 

 

I made it clear at the end of last season that I was buying into a long-term vision when we set out our stall for this season and that is still very much the case, but I am not blind to our current predicament and nor is anyone at this club, we know that things have to improve and they have to improve quickly, starting with tomorrow’s game.

 

There are excuses that could be made, but I’m not interested in them, I am only interested in getting this right. So what needs to be done? Well, there’s the obvious one, which is that we need to start getting points on the board.

 

We’ve got some fantastically talented players here at Meadow Lane, some who I have no doubt will play at a higher level at some point in their career, if they haven’t already. But quality individuals need time to gel as a team and we haven’t had the good fortune to field what you could call a settled team due to injuries and suspensions.

 

Whilst we are working to the restraints of tight, yet competitive, budgets, as most teams in our division are, we cannot afford to lose our most important thing at this club, which is you, the fans.

 

That’s not just from a financial perspective, but of course we need a regular income to pay the bills and to keep the club going. I have made it clear that I cannot go on financing this club at the level that I am doing in the long-term.

 

Any football club, certainly outside of the Premier League, is only as strong as its supporters and the backing that they give. I am merely a makeweight in the financial future of Notts County at present, we need everyone to be getting behind the club and taking it forwards if we are to have a long and successful future.

 

This is why I am so concerned by the mass of negativity that has beset the club in recent weeks and months. Yes results haven’t gone as we would have liked, but I like to think that I take a more pragmatic approach to reviewing the campaign to date. Sheffield United was a battle, as we knew it would be, and Peterborough were the better team on the day, I think it’s fair to say, although I don’t think the scoreline was a fair reflection of the game as a whole.

 

The performance at Walsall gave plenty of cause for optimism as I recall, battling back against a team who had started the season so strongly and who play some very attractive football.

 

The Stevenage and Rotherham games were disappointing and we should have done better, certainly in terms of our performance, against both of those sides, I fully acknowledge and accept that and these displays were made all the more difficult to stomach because they were at home.

 

But the showing that we put in against Liverpool, particularly in the second half, together with the wins against Fleetwood Town and Burton Albion, show that we have a real attacking threat in this side and we have the ability to turn things around.

 

Leyton Orient was a setback, but there were definitely signs, particularly in the first 20 minutes or so, that we have what it takes to turn this around. If we could have gotthat first goal, I honestly believe it would have been a very different story in that game.

 

So my message and my request, if you will, is simple – keep the faith. We need to take a more measured and considered approach to things. I know people are calling for change, that’s only natural when things are going against you, but change can come from within. It can come from the coaching staff, it can come from theplayers and it can certainly come from the backing of the supporters in thestands. 

 

There are plenty of positives around the ground. I think it’s fair to say that Meadow Lane hasn’t looked as good as it does presently for many a year, the suites are attracting essential new business on non-matchdays, our safety rating is as high as it’s been for some considerable time and we’re more connected with the fans, in terms of social media, than ever before.

 

It serves nobody to focus on the negatives, especially when so much hard work is being done behind the scenes to put things right, it only breeds more negativity and that canonly be to the detriment of the club.

 

I would like to end by saying that we have this game against Tranmere tomorrow and I would ask you all to show your support not for me, not for our manager and not even for our players, we are all temporary custodians of the reputation of this club, but I would ask you all to come and support Notts County Football Club, because without you, there is no club, it really is as simple as that.

Rubin are by far the best team in the group. Wigan shouldn't fear either of the other 2. Zulte will be their biggest threat IMO. Maribor are seasoned competitors so can't be ruled out.

Match Talk    Leyton Orient Vs Notts County

Leyton Orient have had a very good start to the season, ex Notts manager Russell Slade (currently Orient boss) will no doubt be eager to do well on Tuesday to continue his teams streak.

It's a game myself and quite a few others don't expect anything from, however you have to think on the bright side otherwise it would be pointless even going, so with that said you never know. We might break their start but how many more games can we lose? 1 point in 6 is the opposite to our opposition.

If Notts are to get anything out of the game, I firmly believe we will have to be calm and slow in building but at all costs we will have to hold possession.

We can't just whip the ball to the win and attack games like this, we need creative play and surely I am not the only one who believes our dynamics are to flat. We should be attacking through the middle/centre of the park and in those terms we can't, we should push the balls to the flanks. We should also be far more dangerous from set pieces but it seems we as a club are unsure how to use them correctly.

More importantly, they have to push on and not leave open space. Marking at Orient will be vital and if Chris wants to keep his job, he will need to drum our mistakes into the players and make sure he tries to change in game if things aren't working.

I would hate to see us axe another but it's bordering a joke. Dean Yates said it was a shambles and it's saddening but true. COME ON NOTTS!!

"We are getting a level of consistency, and that was the biggest thing for me.

NOTTS County have told Francois Zoko he is free to leave.

The 30-year-old Ivorian forward has only played 24 minutes as a sub for the Magpies so far this season.

And he was left out of the first-team squad completely for their last game against Walsall in League One.

He has already turned down a move abroad, but he could still be on his way out of Meadow Lane before the transfer window closes on September 2.

For me we're weak in Midfield, he provides good cover and in form he would be hard not to play. I don't understand why we don't try to get the most players ability and the consistency spot on, so that they can take care of themselves from that point on. We just seem to release them and move and it's not always the best option!

Some will be glad, some like me will be disappointed. Life's like this and so if he moves we need to accept it but I just feel we need him right now.

Through trial by wikipedia, Haber doesn't exactly look like a goal scoring machine, to say the least.

But I'll reserve proper judgement until I've seen him play.

Surprised to see no comments about the defeat to MK Dons on here.


 


What does everyone think? Is it time to change manager or have we been down that road before?


 


My view is that it is still too early to sack the manager, we can turn it round it is only 6 games into the season and we can't go on sacking managers every 6 months, CK has made new signings and it all takes time to gel, lets give him a bit longer and get behind the team, manager and owners and get through this together.
